There is nothing to evolve. D.Tube is just combining Steem and IPFS on a domain. You can easily program something like that on your own with the Steem API and using IPFS for uploads.
It's not open source. The creator, heimindanger, is afraid someone else will take the code and compete with him:
"If I wanted to play on words, I'd tell you this is already open source. All the code is in the single .js file that your browser loads. Yeah sure it's minified and uglified so it's not really useful.
This is not truly open source, because of potential threats. Believe me I am not an enemy, but some people around here are. They would be quick to take the source code, and try to quickly copy it after a quick redesign, spend a couple grands on marketing and create some hype for their own wealth. At least this way, they have to spend some time to unminify the code before trying to understand it (and most likely fail at the task).
I don't want to spoil, but please give it a bit of time, I actually have a list of subjects I want to talk about this month, and open-source is one of them. It will probably be the last of the series though."

Let’s get you a little boost, let me know your DTube username and I’ll send a tip to help charge quicker.
Additionally can get 10 DTube easy by doing a simple video #OriginalDTuber Verification aka hold up a piece of paper with username and acknowledge you are actively posting to DTube 😜
We plan to have a good tutorial about this part of the website before the launch of the main net. Sorry about that.
Key identifier: can be any word you want, it's only there so you know which key does what
Public Key: the public key that will get added to your account and be able to transact
Permissions: a list of transaction types that the new key will be able to use
Your DTube account holds your DTC funds, and logging on a website with your main key can introduce security risks (phishing websites/apps mostly).
That's why we recommend that you create a key with lower permissions (for example only comment/vote/follow/unfollow), as these transactions cannot touch your DTC funds.
P.S: If you want to generate a new keypair, you can currently use this page: https://d.tube/#!/onboarding
This one seems to work OK, I guess not every video is playable then because of something to do with the way the videos are stored and shared on the IPFS preventing some videos from playing at all.
here's one video that didn't play - https://d.tube/#!/v/datrobinplays/4mfbj25d
You can use Handbrake (https://handbrake.fr) which is open source software and can do all the encoding job. Just select the 'YouTube' or 'Web' (H264/AAC) preset and your video should be playing fine in any browser then ;)
Welcome friend, like my fellow d.tuber u/D00k13DotCom said the most used platform for communications is discord.
Here's my channel https://d.tube/#!/c/anime4theworld-studi0
If you check out your about page example https://d.tube/#!/c/anime4theworld-studi0/about
You should see the Bandwidth Update metric if to low you cannot perform any action on the site as all actions cost some Bandwidth to perform.
This Bandwidth adds up if you have 🚩DTC. you get 10 bytes per DTC every 1 hour.
I just signed up for a d.tube account yesterday and made sure that I copied everything exactly into a credentials text file. Not only was I unable to link my FB account during the signup process, I also never received the SMS code to link my phone number.
On top of all of this, I couldn't even complete the signup process on Chrome, I had to open POS Microsoft Edge to complete the signup process.
I was finally able to get tot the welcome video, and now same thing, I cannot log in on any browser. I really, really really want this to work.

Hello u/Bapemusic, it appears you tried to put a link in a title, since most users cant click these I have placed it here for you
^I ^am ^a ^bot ^if ^you ^have ^any ^suggestions ^dm ^me
well we average a new video every 3 minutes and typically our videos are 5-10 minutes long (super rough average) so distributed among a few people that isn't hard to cover. That being said I don't believe that our curation team do watch every video, but users who post regularly are noticed.
If you want you can see the history of DTubes activity here: https://d.tube/#!/c/dtube by visiting the activity tab.
Sure, https://d.tube/#!/c/darknessrain
Also another thing I should mention while I have you is that none of my videos uploaded before my migration to full dtube account seem to be playable, they only show a gray screen
I am thinking about creating my own clone, I wasn't sure if this was part of the D.Tube node network or if it was standalone... Maybe someone could build a rss feed tracker of all the new portals out there.
I would really love to add a 'Tribes' section on the menu, similarly to what steempeak.com does... It's indeed a big strength of the new update and it's totally hidden from the main d.tube at the moment... I also wish the sub-tokens rewards showed on the videos page directly on dtube... either like steempeak or by combining the rewards into the $ amount.
It's not a super big work but we are very busy with dev needs around the fund-raising part (dtube's signup, investor page/wallet, improving blockchain before mainnet launch, etc) so it'll come later unless someone from community wants to do a PR for it
So there was a way around if you have a Linux server you could host your own IPFS(D.tube's backend distributed file system).
I had a server with IPFS in the past before trying Dtube, and I was planning to self host.
BUT now, Dtube just did this huge update, and it no longer makes the IPFS addresses obvious so I'm not sure.
Well I can agree with that. A lot can be done with a relatively small amount of money(compared to the competition). It would not take much capitol to build a fully decentralized app suite for PC. In fact much of the ground work has already been done by D.Tube's team as well as uploader.oneloved.tube and powerpoint45 (DTube android developer). (all free software) The main need of funding is for marketing and education because the technology is so new, it has to be explained in a way people understand why it's more efficient and can provide more freedom/content longevity than every other platform currently in operation.
Nope. That's why using a social blockchain in combination with it is good, as it basically creates a ledger of hashes with associated author / title / description.

If the d.tube domain rips, you can still use it from the github source code, and re-host it on IPFS or another domain. Also, you could just use steemit.com or other STEEM interfaces to find the contents, and then click on the IPFS links from there.
Read the latest developers update, they did multiple stress tests and are in the process of completely decentralize and internationalize the servers. Furthermore, servers can block/filter contents, this will be a major point for robustness when something like the gab/mastodon merge will happen (most mastodon servers ended up blocking gab servers, but it's still possible for users to access gab servers if they really want to, that's the best in terms of balance censorship of dangerous speeches/freedom of speech). Clearly lbry seems to be the most advanced platform of all technically wise, although their interface seems minimalist compared to others such as dtube (eg missing votes and recommender system and search are limited). For the moment, I see a brighter future for lbry than any other similar system, i begin to understand why there are more famous creators using lbry than other platforms :-)
it works fine with the android application https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.powerpoint45.dtube&hl=en_US
