The issue is actually a little more convoluted. Woman can be pastors. The issue is that woman are currently commissioned , but cannot be ordained. Which I think is worse. So the vote will be on whether or not women can now be ordained along with men. Zoom into the "Weighing the Issue" section in this link. It explains the difference between commissioned and ordained. Basically, if you are ordained you have the option for higher positions within the church, that's it. This issue is one of the reasons I gave up on Adventist. This along with the racially segregated conferences here on the east coast. How can a church that is supposed to have the truth vote to perpetuate segregation???? I agree with you, ridiculous bullshit!
I found the book Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents really helpful in understanding what my parents’ problems were. It has also helped me understand that in addition to the disadvantage of their religious beliefs, they were each not taught to be more emotionally in tune with their children. It doesn’t make the hurt less and it doesn’t excuse the neglect, but it helps me work towards being a better parent to my kids than mine were to me.

>The two words "wholistic" and "holistic" have very different meanings, but there is some confusion and they are often used in an incorrect manner. The two words have very distinct meanings though somewhat similar in definition. Wholistic refers to the whole, a whole item or whole body of a person or thing. The word defines the consideration of the entire structure or makeup, which includes the body, mind and the spirit in the case of a human being. The word holistic is connected to holism, which focuses on the total entity and the interdependence of the diverse parts of this totality. Holistic has to do with the healing systems that are considered alternative like homeopathy and Ayurveda that deal with the human body as an interconnected whole.
So I'm exSDA and was in Pathfinders (SDA version of Boy plus Girl Scouts, genders attend together). I was raised on his story and my Pathfinder leader grew up with him. I met him once, shook his hand. As an adult, I met a veteran who's thing is historic military everything, and we compared notes on Hacksaw Ridge versus what I was told is the "real story" of Desmond Doss.
Per SDA gossip, Doss refused to have his story rights sold until he was deceased, because Hollywood changes stories and he did not want to see that. Per my Pathfinder leader, Doss lived in Tennessee, kept a huge garden, loved neighbor kids, was like a neighborhood grandpa to her. Per SDA gossip and some article I read online and am too lazy to find, Doss was reportedly even more heroic than the filmmakers show.
Here's an excellent article on historical accuracy vs. Hollywood. I'd say the biggest changes are his motives for being noncombatant (Mel Gibson made up a story why.) and the filmmakers had Doss wear a wedding ring. These changes were added to appeal to modern mainstream Protestant audiences. IRL Doss had religious reasons for not using a gun, and for not wearing a wedding ring.
Per the military history buff, this documentary is the most accurate Doss thing out there. It features interviews with Desmond Doss himself. The history buff said there was a documentary made in the '60's too. He recommended it...but all I can find is this 2004 production.
Yeah, pancit is the best! I love this recipe. Just make sure to use both dark and light soy sauce, that's the secret. I like Golden Mountain for the light sauce. Also, skip the oyster sauce and add more light soy instead for an authentic Adventist style.
As long as you match the wet ingredients to the noodles, you can go wild on the veggies and protein choice. Need enough water to hydrate or not overshoot and make soup.
Do you mean this (available use on Amazon)?
I might have actually known this Joel Thompson (I need to do some research to be sure).
> I have much to say and discuss but it is not with the worldview you or the SDA church hold. You think I am here to present the SDA church view and I am not.
Your last posts on unclean meat and “Sunday in the Bible” are absolutely held as SDA doctrines so knock it off with your deceptions. Considering your inability to read simple Biblical text is only further evidence that you’ve been indoctrinated with SDA church beliefs. So, if you’d like to continue, please read what I’ve offered and counter with something relevant. If not, call me out on it as I am calling you on it. Stop cherry picking.
> You did not answer the main thrust of this passage. That is "DO NOT LET ANYONE JUDGE YOU FOR...." Respectfully what is a synonym for "LET NO ONE JUDGE YOU?" How else would you say it? LET NO ONE _________________ you FOR....
Judge (v) is defined as:
Here is a list of synonyms. Not sure what you’re looking for here since the scripture is pretty clear that whatever I eat is completely irrelevant.
Why I Became an Atheist: A Former Preacher Rejects Christianity - John W. Loftus
I read this book immediately after I stopped believing in God and it is the by far the most comprehensive book against Christian apologetics I've ever seen.
It is long, but it's well written and covers everything. It could even be read as a reference book since each section covers different arguments.
Since reading that, I have never heard a Christian argument that was not covered in great depth in that book (except for some fringe conspiracy theory stuff).
The paperback is only $6 on Amazon right now.
There are a lot of great resources out there and many of them cover the same stuff, but I guarantee that, if you read this book, you will have answers to 100% of questions even the most studied Christians could throw at you.
