I upgraded my return pump to the Eheim compact 1000 but the pump ran soo hot. I came home from work one day and saw my water was at 84 degrees. So I took the pump out and returned it immediately (plus it was a bit too loud for my liking). Instead I went with the Tunze 1073.008 and I couldn't be more pleased. I LOVE this pump. Its a tight squeeze in the chamber but it fits. I don't have any of the issues I had when I was running the Eheim.
I was curious about running the skimmer in the first chamber but I have a small bioload. So I upgraded to the inTank media basket in the first chamber and loving it so far! All my parameters remain in check so I just do biweekly water changes.
I am still running the stock light, but plan on upgrading eventually so I can stock more demanding corals. All I have are softies and zoas per the moment.

I dont think we need apex's for these tanks, but you do need to keep an eye on things. I think the temp controller is what everyone on this sub should be rocking at this point. Between this and an 18 dollar target fan and the heater i got from petco my tank is ONLY ever between 76 and 78 degrees. I think it comes down to what school of thought you follow in this hobby... 1) water quality 2) flow 3) lighting 4 stability of perimeters
Or, if you can manage all of them, theoretically, you'll do well. the red caps, digitatis, pipe organs and zoas all are showing signs of growth so I'm going to continue to nail all the aspects with the end goal being "I need a bigger tank".
I got this one

Blows the sand about if it’s aimed directly at it but you can adjust. You can also adjust the power so it’s gentle. Otherwise I just redirect the flow direction so it doesn’t disrupt the sand
I am using this light. I took a blade to the pattern behind the chamber. Innovative Marine ChaetoMax... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076J295D3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I do not dose anything. I prefer the slow growth because it does boost some level of Ph, I wouldn’t want to add nitrates because it would invite nuisance algae and maybe more.
I did not put an intank in chamber 2. There's a ledge at the bottom of chamber 2 that I cut a sponge to fit over, then stuffed the Chaeto on top of it, then used this light velcroed to the outside. The light covers the chamber almost perfect. I have not scraped the honeycomb off.

Yeah it'll be a watchman for me too if I add any other fish. I also read a lot about the GSP spreading like a weed so yeah that's why it's on the island. Still going to have to watch it and trim eventually I think.
The ATO is the AutoAqua Smart ATO Lite (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X2HHX1G?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) . I've been very happy with it so far and I don't have any safety concerns with it. The sensor and the refill hose are both positioned in chamber 3 with the return pump. I have the sensor about 3 inches below the top of the tank.
The Sicce pump is either as quiet or maybe even slightly louder than the stock pump for me actually. It's got a slight hum to it if you're listening for it that I tune out at this point. It only gets loud if it's touching the side of the tank and needs to be adjusted though.
i have two of my chambers running with chaeto and this light ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003J89HEU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share )... been doing a little too good in my opinion.. been having to adjust light time
I would use the second chamber with intank baskets. All my media would be in chamber one, with a bag of bio media underneath the basket. This is the light I am thinking of using
