For the hackathon, you can have a team of maximum 5 members. You can participate as an individual too in the hackathon. CodeWars is an individual competition.

Not sure about high schools but I know a lot of colleges use HackerRank to host their hackathons, and they take care of everything on the back end. Companies will sponsor collegiate hackathons too, and I think a high school hackathon would be even more buzzworthy.

So finding hackathons was Always a tedious task and it takes a hell lot of time to find the actual good ones whi b are worth participating.
