My favourite pen for writing is the Pentel Energel Clena Gel Pen 0.3mm. It has a needle point so it's really fine, which works great for me because I have tiny writing and I can actually read it using this. It ghosts a little bit, but not to the point I can't read it. I also use stickers in my hobo which probably helps because often there is not writing on both sides in the same spot. I haven't used anything else in mine, really. I don't use coloured pens or anything because I use stickers predominantly.
The hot pink Jan start mega weeks is 33% off right now on Amazon in case that is useful! bright pink mega weeks on Amazon
Hello hobonichi fanatics! With the recent circumstance of Covid-19, we are all on a #StayatHome order and thus, large gatherings are no longer taking place.
The good news is what with modern technology, people can still have virtual gatherings via the internet! We, the admins and mod, of this group invite you to join us in our very first Hobonichi LA Online meetup! We will be hosting this meetup on jitsi.org , which is a website that doesn't require any registration to use the video/audio chatroom. There is audio and type-only chat options for those too shy to do the video chat.
If anyone is interested, let me know! I'll send you an invite link the day of. :)
In 2017 I bought a cheap pack of pens called Monpeluche 0.38mm pens, but they don't seem available any more. this listing seems like a similar one, though. If I needed to get more, I'd likely get these to replace my beloved Monpeluches. I had bought a big ole pack of black ones alongside the colored pens I linked to, which is why I have yet to run out of them yet.
I'm pretty sure Pentel Hi-Tec-C 0.3mm, Zebra Sarasa 0.4mm, Pentel Engergel 0.3mm, and Uniball Signo RT 0.38mm (mine's black polka dots) would work just as fine as well. Minimal ghosting for all the ones I mentioned, though the Monpeluches I linked to is what I use the most.
Hi! I don't remember the exact ones but it was something similar to this on Amazon (there are a lot to choose from)! The keyboard is this one also from Amazon. The top portion (kind of like a plate that goes around the keys) is removable and I spray painted it purple! It turned out great and has held up really well! I hope this helps! :)
They also have bundles with covers available. I bought the Black x Pale Blue Cousin Book & Cover set for $80 here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FX2SXZS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Same price as it was on jetpens and I couldn't find any cheaper deal for it anywhere else. This is my first Hobonichi and I'm very excited!
You can order the AVECs from Amazon, they won't be in for a while though. Here is the July - December one, its only been up since May. (that price has gone up a bit too)
https://www.amazon.com/Hobonichi-Techo-avec-Cousin-Book/dp/B01GH9UYV2
US Amazon still has it here: https://www.amazon.com/Hobonichi-Techo-Cousin-Notebook-January/dp/B01LKZLC78/
The Canadian Amazon only had one listed for resale at over CA$200+
Fair warning, buying from Amazon is kind of hit or miss on whether or not you get the extras.
I'm also in Mx and I got mine from Amazon JP. I checked various stores and that was the cheapest considering shipping and taxes. I just checked, and the Bunnies is in stock.
The small circle ones are Suatelier Planner Index Tabs.
The larger silver ones are Avery Repositionable tabs which I move to my current weekly/daily page.
FWIW: I don't think there's any problem with stickers! I like a mix of functional and decorative, and I think there's often room for both.
But to more directly answer your question: I love miss.meissa on Instagram! Most of her tutorials actually look doable, as someone who has not a lick of drawing talent, haha. I'm hoping to follow some of them next year myself.
I also really like Sachiko Umoto's "Illustration School" books. I have 5 of them (people, animals, plants, color, and story), and I think she also had a kit/boxed set, maybe.
I use these in my hobonichi and adore them. I like that I get a little tab at the top to catch my finger unlike bookbdarts that are flush to the page

Like this?
It's weird, I don't see the same dimension product on the US site. I use skinnier list memos myself, like the ones they sell at Muji
The Day Free mayyyy meet your needs here - the 12 monthly calendars are followed by only 172 daily pages, though.

What about a Stalogy? You could easily tip in some monthly calendar pages and still have the 365 daily pages and it clocks in ~1/4 lb lighter than the Hobo Cousin.
If you're noticing an issue with smudging, I recommend getting some blotter paper. It is great at preventing the smudging that comes from closing the Weeks before ink is quite dry. This packet will last you for YEARS.
or even so this would be easy to make cuter with new keycaps... it's one of my fave boards but double check me on the removable piece (I got the smaller version)
It's transparent teal/blue! And you can change the LED lights to do what you want- I just have them on Rainbow right now.
here is the keyboard and I added switches and keycaps to it!
Oh do you mean this one? i almost got this for my a5 notebook.
Sure. I bought them on Amazon. There are 6 different sets of 3 tapes. The “Colorful Patterns” and “Going Out” are the sets I got.
https://www.amazon.co.jp/Small-Drawer-Pouch/dp/B088F3HP6G?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1
https://www.amazon.co.jp/Large-Drawer-Pouch/dp/B088F31CN6?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1 the big one is even on sale 😻
Oddly enough it's only since using Hobonichi that it's easier for me to journal and plan habitually. I've tried different systems too but can never seem to get back to those. It must be some kind of magic.
they've been available somewhat off and on (mostly off) to add to cart, but not to ship, on amazon japan for a while. i checked out with one several weeks ago but haven't heard anything about a ship date. we'll see if it actually ever arrives.
Late response but I was looking for something similar and found something that worked for me.
Paper is alright if you stick with gel pens, ballpoint, etc. Definitely not for fountain pens or even pens like midliners will bleed through.
Because I love to dig around and find stationary products, I checked their page and the pens in the back two rows both seem to be the same packaging but different color selections of these Zebra Clickart pens.
I discovered yesterday Delfonics pouches that are bag in bags. You can find them on amazon jp, probably on amazon us and also on etsy. They are available in A6 and A5 and there are many lovely colors. You can see it here
Here's a similar layout for $10, undated though Amazon link
if you are in the US, amazon still has some:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NRBKN5K/
they have more than one color available and depending on where you live, you can have one delivered in the next couple days.
Oh I'd be more than happy to! But actually, you might want to check amazon USA first as someone mentioned recently that they now have a lot of Hobonichi things in stock! I just checked and they have the Cafe Weeks in stock! :) If you were to order from me unfortunately shipping would be kinda high since shipping with tracking is about 20$ from where I live (I'm from Canada!)
As always, this is not an affiliate link! I just want people to see items when they become available :)
BEWARE that a couple of items are listed a bit high, probably due to algorithm messiness. THESE ITEMS WILL LOWER IN PRICE! And always compare the value of buying cover-only to buying sets from smaller businesses like JetPens, Atlus Stationers, etc.
The One Piece items are not for sale yet, but they have store pages! This means they *should be* available on Amazon sometime after October 1st!
I see some popular items in stock including the Cafe Repose Deco Rush!
These are from Amazon but I love these book darts. I like that they have a little lip at the top instead of being flush with the page.
TsukamuX Book Darts :Line Book... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B099RRPH2N?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
you're welcome- I did customize the looks of the keyboard though- it was black originally- I changed the keycaps to HK Gaming Mint keycaps I found on Amazon, and I spray painted the black plastic (had to disassemble the board) with mint spray paint and glitter.
if you want something that's a bit easier, maybe check out the Womier K87 Botanical
Found this on Amazon
It's on Amazon JP, slightly discounted. It says 19 left but will restock. Not by itself, but worth adding if you buy other things from them. My guess is Hobonichi will restock, too.
I use a Mnemosyne monthly planner. Not only is the paper great (one of my favorites), each month has a calendar view plus a gant chart view, which I use to track habits, work schedule, hobbies, health, etc.
https://www.amazon.com/Maruman-MNEMOSYNE-Monthly-Planner-MND283-22/dp/B09C1LNZVB
If you're okay with getting it on Amazon Japan, they do have it on stock here:
Doesn't seem like my captions uploaded so I'll summarize.
This is my current set up. I use an A6 that I rebound with a Cinch machine because I love being able to see just the day I'm on and having it lay open.
Awhile back someone mentioned using a weeks with their daily planner so I pulled out my unused 2020 planner and used correction tape to set it up for 2022. Now my weeks is the planner that leaves the house with me and the A6 stays at home.
Group photo: 2020 weeks, rebound A6 for July - Dec (with covers from the Jan - June book), and next years homemade planner with paper from Paper Penguin Co. I'll be getting a weeks but wanted something without dates and extra text for my daily.
Just wanted to share if helps someone shop for this year.
Here are my go-to's:
You wrap the entire vial in saran wrap, then put the vials into a zip lock bag. The inks should be contained even if they leak. If that's too much effort, you can always just buy a pack of cartridges, perfect size to carry around.
I've actually just been using this for my taping needs. It's masking tape for plastic models, so it's very thin and doesn't take up a huge amount of space. But yeah, KITTA is really convenient for these kind of things, some really cute patterns too!
Totally I realize how much I needed a Sharpie when our office was moving to a different location. Super vital to label boxes and plastics. :')
Hi, You can buy one on Amazon UK, or maybe Amazon in your country: Try here
I think that's what the Hobonichi Techo is; the Cousin w/o the weekly. It has year, month, day. Is that what you're looking for? https://www.amazon.com/Hobonichi-Planner-English-January-Monday/dp/B09FSPHV18
OP here! All of these designs come from this coloring book series by Yoneyama Kimihiro.
When it's time to set up my Cousin Avec, I like to do seasonal drawings from coloring books on the month pages. I used ZIG Clean Color brush markers to color these because I LOVE the smooth feeling of these brushes on the Tomoe River Paper.
I've included pictures of outside and inside light because of how different it looks. On some of the illustrations, I added sparkle with a Wink of Stella glitter pen. I'll do the same to all of them once my clear glitter brush pen arrives.
Which illustration is your favorite?
OP here! Since I'm not great at drawing, I've used tracing paper to copy designs from adult coloring books, then trace them again to color in my Hobonichi. I thought I would share the line art before I colored. If people are interested, I can share the colored versions, too.
These designs come from a series of Japanese coloring books called 脳がみるみる若返るぬり絵 by Yoneyama Kimihiro. Here is a link if you are interested in supporting the artist!
I've been using this for my Hobonichi month pages for years. Choosing the design has been a summer and winter tradition for me.
I use this pen. It's a little expensive, but it matches great and the fine point makes it easy to correct things, especially small errors.
https://www.amazon.com/Pentel-correction-oil-aqueous-XZL7F1C-10-pack/dp/B007E69FAY
I have the small drawer pouch in yellow and I think the fabric is very sturdy. It's somewhere between canvas and denim in feel and I'm not worried about it getting ripped when I throw it in my bag.

I bought the Japanese Franklin (as in Franklin Covey) planner this year and I absolutely love it. If actual planning is your thing, this one really has it all! I’m a teensie bit planner crazy and I use many of them simultaneously, but this one has become the one I really use the most so far.

It comes in A5 and A6 (or maybe B6, I can’t recall). I have the A5, I bought it without a cover. It fits into Hobonichi covers, and I currently have it in a Kokuyo systemic cover.
as u/pigpak mentioned, it is the kukoyo systemic cover... apologies on the slow response-- I have been away from the computer for a bit.
lol... for some reason, now that I'm actively filling out 3 journals on the daily I've found I have less time to spend online? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As always, these are not affiliate links and I don't gain in any way! Just want people to be able to get the items they want!
A6 Animal Crossing Cover is also currently available on Amazon!
If you are worried about the estimated shipping time, just keep in mind that you are not charged by Amazon until the item ships and you can cancel at any time. People have been saying their items are shipping quicker than listed!
Here's a direct amazon link for the Midori A5 clear cover, just in case:

I wasn't sure if you'd need A5 or A6, or what the UK shipping prices are but it's on UK Amazon :) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hobonichi-Techo-Original-Planner-Matsumoto/dp/B09FSK2JNK/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=3AMYFP2CU2MVU&keywords=cat+over+kanda&qid=1638973405&sprefix=cat+over+kanda%2Caps%2C290&sr=8-2
I put a charm or bead on the end of mine and use a Crimp Bead to close off the ends to keep them clean.
There are only clear covers for the Weeks size for sale on Amazon at the moment. There is the plain cover and the Tsuta cover. No other sized are up unfortunately.
I love love love the Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto. Here is an option. Refills are available separately so you can choose the colors you like. There’s even a mechanical pencil refill and you can find coleto bodies for 2-5 colors (from 2-in-1 up to 5-in-1). They write beautifully!
See if that works. It's the one at the top

So I have the yoobi pencil case and I double checked for you and can confirm it fits a hobonichi weeks. I've got like 14 pens/markers, some lead, a scissor and an eraser and it zips up fine.
Kokuyo Systemic Ring, the latest version of this cover. It allows for a thicker book, unlike the first gen of the Systemic. Under $20. Kinda like the analog version of a classy black dress or tuxedo:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008HVN9GG
The excess lip of the 5-year’s leather cover coerced me into playing shimmy-shimmy-koko-pop, like wiggling into your jeans the day after Thanksgiving. 😝 But worth the effort. I was determined to get something with a band to keep it closed, as I envisioned occasional journaling-by-the-lake scenarios re that right-side empty page. Took my first such trip this past weekend. Perfection!
Bonus: the pen holder is made of elastic. Passed several “will-it-hold-dis?” hands-on tests, e.g. Pilot Coleto 5 multi-pen (comparable to Hobo multi pen); fat Sharpie, Pilot Juice Up, UniBall Signo DX/ RT/ RT1. If narrow, like the Juice Up, best to use a pen with a clip to prevent inadvertent slip-outs.
Thanks so much! It's this one from Amazon. I have made some mods to it by painting a removable plate and adding some colored keycaps! It's been fun to personalized it!
Hi! I don't remember the exact keycaps but it was something similar to this on Amazon (there are a lot to choose from)! The keyboard is this one also from Amazon. The top portion (kind of like a plate that goes around the keys) is removable and I spray painted it purple! It turned out great and has held up really well! I hope this helps! :)
Amazon has it with the 2021 original included.
I found it on eBay from an Australian stationary store but the transaction fell through. But somehow I found the cover again on Mercari shortly after the eBay one got cancelled. It worked out in the end since the Mercari cover was way cheaper and in brand new condition!
I think the official Hobonichi store on Amazon has the A6 Avec. Although, you might have to wait until end of the month before it's in stock. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096RZFCPZ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_60NW0ZYAG4KA16CGDE99
I store mine upright and I use this pen case
Stalogy 365... you have to circle the dates yourself though... I don't think they make an actual dated one.
I'm using the A6 Kokuyo systemic notebook cover and it's great! Comes with a notebook too :D I just pulled the notebook out and use it for other things, while my hobonichi goes in the cover.
There's space for another thinner notebook if you need one and two card slots.
I felt like a winner when I found these items so I’m just sharing

Both sell on Amazon for what I've seen and you can find videos in YT of people showing theirs if it helps you.
No, I feel you. I wish they had more unlined options. I even searched the post-it note website exhaustively, and there are no unlined 4x6s. They line their notes so thick, like wide-rule style.
The most flexible option I found is 4x6 grid. I may try out this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004D7K164/ref=crt_ewc_img_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Hello,
Fellow UK zip cover owner and this is the stuff I use:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Scotchgard-Multi-Purpose-Protector-400-ml/dp/B00BWZALU6
I would recommend covering the zip and the zip pull itself (there can be discolouration on these bits), I use painters tape and clingfilm. And then just follow the can instructions.
Hope this helps x
Check out Amazon Japan the shipping is cheaper than the hobonichi site.
Thanks so much for the quick reply :D I think I got my numbers messed up too lol -_-
To anyone else reading this, Amazon has the white labels for quite cheap right now ($3.45!) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001SN8ITI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
hey, did you ever buy it? this is $10 over your budget but it includes the englist january start planner. hobonichi started selling them officially through amazon US.
I'd recommend Stalogy (A6) over the Hobonichi brand. [~~Same Tamoe River paper~~] Thin paper, cheaper, but lacking in the same page template that the Hobonichi has.
So what you're paying for is the extra design that Hobonichi put in. Ask yourself whether the extra Hobonichi page design adds $50 of value on top; if so, get the Hobonichi.
I just purchased a Kokuyo A5 cover from Amazon for $16 and they have other versions that are more economical as well. I haven't received it in the mail yet but I'll try and remember to share some photos once it comes in. https://www.amazon.com/Kokuyo-notebook-systemic-corresponding-V685B-DB/dp/B00S0GQS5C/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

How about Raymay? https://www.amazon.com/Raymay-Multi-Use-Covered-Notebook-Black/dp/B005JQ0UWS
I don't have an A5 (mine is B6), but according to reviews, it seems like the Cousin should fit nicely.
They make a .38 version as well!
Kokuyo makes both an A5 & A6 notebook cover called Systemic. Here is the A6 version.
This is a link to the vinyl I used on the outside of the cover. http://www.amazon.com/Duck-282250-Adhesive-Laminate-Chalkboard/dp/B00MFSQ3EM
It's 20in with and 10 FEET long. We found a roll in a local Staples for half that cost and used some it for another project. Having some left over for the cover was a nice bonus.
I have the A6 sized one, I want to try to use it as my wallet eventually. I totally have this LIHITLAB Stationery Electronics Bag in Bag A6 on my Amazon wish list.
