They are both a blessing and a curse. Good to have a set when you CANNOT lose your tools. Otherwise, I find they get in the way more than help. Make sure they have a swivel if you get a set that attaches to the harness. This is the style I have: https://www.amazon.com/Black-Diamond-P1312883-Spinner-Leash/dp/B07CK7DPJ7
can you link to an example of a file? even the petzl docs say so but no example of file. is it like a nail file? one of these? https://www.amazon.com/Corona-FE405508BC1CD-Bastard-Handle-Carded/dp/B00IO86VDU/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?keywords=metal+file&qid=1644360670&sr=8-9
I wear the strongest level under armor+wool mids and dry shell on the upper peninsula of Michigan, that combo has been great from -5 to -25c. And swany ski gloves actually have been great for 3 years now. But my first guide suggested japanese arctic fishing gloves since they're waterproof, cut proof, and allegedly withstand the cold while preserving grip, and they're cheap. like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007PLDRAC/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_RKXVFEKARG4C8CPZPCAZ
I use these, but I like the pair with the drawstring more to prevent snow/ice from getting in. You can buy 10 pairs of these for the price of a "good" ice climbing glove. I usually carry a few pairs so when they get wet I just change them out. Ice climbing, glacier climbing, BC climbing. These things rock:

A friend recently recommended these, and I'll probably buy a pair to test them out: https://smile.amazon.com/Kinco-Hydroflector-Waterproof-15-Guage-Acryllic/dp/B08L44KCPG
This is probably of no use but here's a good resource for the Canadian Rockies. Otherwise the best source of knowledge I've found was talking with people in our Alpine Club.

I just bought this
I haven't climbed in it yet, but it will be my first harness with ice clips. As u/PWDRWGN stated, you may want more options with how many ice clips you can get. I bought this one over another harness I was looking at that only had 2 spots for the clips.
Also, I like the color blue.
I'll report back after I try it out. It'll be a little while before I can get outside with it so my experience will just be in a gym.
