> Before I go through trying to install join market Is that enough space or do I need to use a bigger USB key?
That is the minimum recommendation for TAILS. JoinMarket doesn't require much space, so you'll probably be okay. I think. :)

If you want anonymity you need to get off windows. You can try using JoinMarket on Tails live operating system.
https://github.com/tailsjoin/tailsjoin
That will give you better anonymity, even with using blockr.io instead of bitcoin core.
Be aware that shapeshift publishes all transactions (amounts, times, currencies) on a public API, e.g. https://shapeshift.io/recenttx/100
Also trading to another currency always has costs, and you may lose money to Monero's higher volatility.
If you do this, make sure you avoid amount correlation. If your adversary sees 10btc going into a mixer system and a little while later a transaction of 9.9btc comes out, it won't be too hard to link them together.
You should certainly be using a Monero full node if you do this, if you use a web wallet then that wallet can spy on all your transactions. This is the same reason we encourage people to use a Bitcoin full node when using JoinMarket.

>Based on Debian
>To oversimplify it: Whonix is just a collection of configuration files and scripts.
>This isn't a stripped down version of Debian. For example, anything you can do with "vanilla" Debian GNU/Linux, you can do with Whonix. Likewise, most problems and questions can be solved in the same way. For example: "How do I install xrandr on Whonix?" -- "The same way you would with Debian apt-get install xrandr". Whonix doesn't break anything and doesn't stop you from using anything you want.
So Whonix is Debian. What is the problem exactly?
> For example, it's not clear if some of these guides are for Linux or for Windows, or both. You say things like "install curl" with no further link or explanation. I got an install curl and it's a single exe that seemingly does nothing, doesn't install anything anywhere, you click on it and it opens a command prompt for an instant, and that's it. Huh?
Well the wiki page does link to cURL's homepage at http://curl.haxx.se/
It sounds like you're not familiar with the command-line interface which is unfortunate as JoinMarket is a command line program at the moment. Obviously in the future we'll build GUIs on top, but right now some simple knowledge of CLI is needed. It shouldn't be a problem for you as you're a highly technical person, it's quite easy to figure out. Did you ever use ping to check whether a host is reachable? It's the same kind of thing.
cURL is a command line program which doesn't have a GUI, which is why on windows you momentarily see command prompt when you double-click it. You need to move the exe somewhere in your $path$ variable, for example C:\Windows\ so that when you type "curl" on command prompt it will execute it.
> Then it talks about changing bitcoin.conf, where is that file? I can't find it on my Bitcoin Core install on Win7.
That wiki links to the bitcoin wiki page https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Running_Bitcoin#Bitcoin.conf_Configuration_File Although now I've gone ahead and put the link everywhere bitcoin.conf is mentioned.
> Are all those steps necessary for a windows user before they can send money to joinmarket from the bitcoin core? Unclear. It's also not clear if the guide is written for people who want to be "makers" or "takers" or both.
Yes. You need bitcoin core before you can send money from bitcoin core using joinmarket.
The guide is written for every user, takers and makers, of JoinMarket right now (but not for the Electrum plugin, Bitcoin-qt or other wallet interfaces when they get created)
Each IRC server is run by somebody. I2P IRC operators might be more anonymous than the current server, but this may not even be a good thing. I2P encourages applications to use it as a library rather than just dropping it in like a proxy.
Is there a method that will export the private keys of all wallet addresses that hold some bitcoins?
Similiar to electrums private keys and sweep coins?
Importing them one at a time to bitcoin-qt is going to take forever!
I know that bitcoin-qt also has a importwallet command that we could use if joinwallet could exort the wallet into the right format.
> Well the wiki page does link to cURL's homepage at http://curl.haxx.se/
Chris, so your position is that rather than you providing step-by-step instructions for how Windows users should install curl, and which version of curl they should use, every Windows user that wants to use joinmarket should visit that link and figure it out for themselves?
you also note: "You need to move the exe somewhere in your $path$ variable, for example C:\Windows\ so that when you type "curl" on command prompt it will execute it."
I would bet a small percentage of average computer users understand what that sentence means, and your documentation doesn't mention that! It just says install curl.
