We are more or less in agreement about the block size proposal, but coming from a different angle. We both think that we need to be very conservative about the block size increase. I'm more concerned about the larger blocksize causing decreasing in security and decentralization. And Bobby is concerned about the blockchain bloat causing individuals to not able to run Bitcoin nodes.
We are both against BIP101, as we feel like it's way too aggressive and dangerous.
We will be at Scaling Bitcoin.
Definitely no on *-RBF. I do think RBF may be inevitable in the future when block rewards approach zero. Miners at that time may want to squeeze as much fees as possible out of each block. By then, we will have stuff like liquid networks that can fulfill the need for zero-conf. But the time is not now. Why destroy the usefulness of zero-conf today? I found the bitcoin transaction on the other side of it with some digging the other night.
Basically I determined it takes about 30 seconds to show tx on blockchain.info and etherscan.io. I then found the bitcoin block that had that timeframe (21:05:22 iirc). I then found that 52.????? Was equal to exactly 1.4 btc at the time of the trade. I then cmd+f on blockchain.info and checked for any 1.4btc transactions that were less than a minute from the timestamp on etherscan. I then used shapeshift api to confirm the TX.

that is as far as I got because I don’t know that much about tracking BTC transactions.
It took about 30-45 minutes to find it. I was joking with my programmer buddy that the reason I found it and not him was bc he would have tried to write a program while I just put on a good podcast and hit cmd+f a butt load of times.
VGNPWR - Erik from ShapeShift here. What happened, as we told you in our mail to you already, was that you told ShapeShift to send your Spells of Genesis card to your CoinBase account. You entered a CoinBase address, so ShapeShift sent the asset there. Spells of Genesis cards are Counterparty assets, and thus require a Counterparty wallet in which to hold them.

Now, normally, if you had given us a Bitcoin address from a normal wallet, you could export the key into a Counterparty wallet and the asset would appear. Since you were using CoinBase, you need to ask CoinBase to provide your private key (because they have it). I don't know if CoinBase will do this, but ShapeShift delivered the card exactly where you told us to.
I understanding this is frustrating, but this is ultimately your mistake. We're happy to corroborate any information if CoinBase needs it, just let us know.
EDIT: After considering this a little, we will send you a card anyway and we'll eat the loss. We'll try to be even more clear about the Counterparty requirement for next week's sale. Please email support at shapeshift.io again and give us a Counterparty wallet address to send the card to you. I recommend Counterwallet.io
ask shapeshift.io. they utilized zero conf heavily and even suffered double spends but were still pissed off when core introduced rbf... for them it was obviously still worth the risk to accept zero conf, and they clearly did the math.

Not sure if you're just trolling but.... Let's see... that's not how it works. And sorry but if you have no idea how monero works, you probably have no idea how bitcoin works too.
Anyway, install the GUI, open it and create a wallet, then shapeshift your beloved btcs into there.
Well, for me, myself, personally, I used shapeshift to switch between DOGE and BTC. Select the coin you want to deposit and receive, and put the receiving address in the righthand box. Then, click start. A screen should pop up with an address to deposit coins to shift. Send the coins to that address. Then just wait a minute, and the new coins should appear in the DOGE/BTC wallet (whichever you picked.)
It's name for sure. Darkcoin will only ever be used by hackers and those who would seek out privacy, and I can never seeing it being the #1 coin.
This means problems with merchants accepting it, but that's also a business opportunity too. Check these people out: https://shapeshift.io/ They seem to fix that problem nicely.
So yeah, darkcoin is a great name if you get the litecoin/darkcoin dialectic and think dark means hidden, clouded, obscured, etc.
But it's the worst name if you want your grandma, your old hockey coach, or your typical 90 IQ adult who think dark means scary, illegal, forbidden, etc.
I love it, like many great things in life it ignores the average to embrace the gifted.
Linux? Embraced enthusiasts and now is embedded in more devices than ever thought possible. Arduino? Doing the same thing. Darkcoin?
Let's just say that as a crypto-ancap who also happens to be a web developer, I'm extremely impressed by the talent the project attracts, even when assessing the crypto space as a whole.
Darkcoin was created to fix Bitcoin's problems, by a man who loved Bitcoin. I think it makes a lot of sense. Bitcoin or something like it will be #1. That's for sure. But for those who DON'T want to be tracked, pay taxes, or use something because its popular over using something because its better, there will be darkcoin.

The zooming on your page seems to be broken on Chrome & Firefox on a Mac: I get a bunch of errors in the console (apparently jquery isn't loading properly) and when I click the zoom icon nothing happens. Safari does work though.

what good does shapeshift implementing segwit do when they still default the miner fee you pay to 0.0025 BTC? https://shapeshift.io/#/inputs/1 Thats almost $20 freaking dollars in fees they are making you pay for no reason.
If you already plan on doing it I would do it relatively quickly so they aren't stuck in the chain death spiral. If you didn't already know ShapeShift can directly exchange your BTC for Cash.

I am not against innovation, or feel the original document is sacred. If we can improve something, we should do it.
So far, increasing block-size went well, and I regret we stopped with trying so. Instead, a block-size increase fear has spread, without visible symptoms.
I would rather see the effort went into block efficiency, compression, less overhead, instead of going for off-chain scaling. Probably the smart minds would have found solutions for problems that we might face, by increasing block-sizes.
Off-chain scaling comes with a price. Especially with multiple parties involved (lightning network). The price is an dependency on all the parties involved.
I can transfer my BTC to altcoins that don't face scaling issues, with help of a 3rd party service. https://www.alfacashier.com/ -or- https://shapeshift.io/#/coins I can buy coffee with my altcoin, fast and cheap. The remaining amount I can keep on my altcoin wallet, for future coffee transactions. This route is similar to the lightening network. Both have extra dependencies on 3rd parties. If they face network issues, I can't recharge, or spend, depending on situation.
Such services are great, and already used a lot. But, I found it wrong to force a whole community to use them, by keeping the block-size capped to 1MB. Let people free in their choice of how they want to use Bitcoin.

I'm against RBF. I think it may be inevitable in the future when block rewards approach zero. Miners at that time may want to squeeze as much fees as possible out of each block. You can use services such as https://coinapult.com to peg your bitcoin to other assets/currencies. Alternatively you can use a service like https://shapeshift.io to convert to altcoins such as tether, bitusd and nubits that are pegged to traditional currencies.
Ideally more hedging services/pegged altcoins will be developed as adoption increases.
Edit: I also believe that bitcoin price will trend up in the long term. As adoption increases, so should price, but these other options allow people to hedge the volatility risk to a level they desire.

A fast and convenient service like shapeshift.io makes it so anywhere that accepts Bitcoin accepts Ðogecoin. You still have to convert your coins, but by using crypto you promote it and let retailers know there is a demand to use it. I always like to ask if a business accepts Ðogecoin (if not that, Bitcoin) nonchalantly to hopefully perk up some eyebrows. This coin is a good store of value, and this community is very positive. I think there is some type of security problem and someone is diverting the funds. To another account, look at my verification

It worked! I sent 0.47, then got back 0.448875 ETH. Then the trade started for the ETC. And I got another 0.09486454 ETH. So in total 0.54373954 and thus 0,07373954 more (16%). Not nothing, but I can see that this might already be too much trouble for most.
And this might already be the easiest way because it doesn't require a ETC wallet....

Coinjoin is opt-in. Not good enough. You go from having one sucker with dirty money to a handful of suckers who opted to have their coins tainted, among a sea of otherwise assumed clean coins. Unless everyone is doing it, that doesn't really help you much. You can't really enforce that with Bitcoin in its current state. I think it would be too jarring to try to change Bitcoin that much, so it makes sense for something like that to coexist as its own solution.
You're still basically saying "make it somebody else's problem". That's not a long term solution to this problem. Short term, sure you might find a fledgling exchange that hasn't had authorities bearing down on them yet over KYC/AML, or an uninformed individual to whom you can pass the hot potato. Long term, how many people and exchanges are going to get burned by this before the general public becomes more aware and vigilant? Your options are only going to run thinner over time.
We used to have Shapeshift.io as a way of anonymously swapping BTC for privacy coins, without the need for creating an account and jumping through KYC/AML hoops. Yeah, that didn't last long.
We natively support Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin (which have varying levels of anonymity depending on how you use them). I think the problem was that people would have liked to have helped, but just didn't know the answer, and so there was silence.
I vaguely remember shapeshift.io providing some kind of solution to accept altcoins and turn them into BTC (that would appear as a widget on third party web sites), but I don't see that on their web site now and it could possibly have been discontinued due to their new stance on KYC. To your coinbought question, I've never used it nor can vouch for it, but I would assume it would work just fine with monerujo.
Their API shows I believe up to the last 100 transactions. Also apparently they have some ties with LE so I wouldn't be surprised if they were to hand over all of their transactions to LE if asked.
I know kyber swap and shapeshift.io allowed token to token exchange but stablecoin to lock your profit it's not applicable here. If someone could create that one to be added on their features, that would be sweet.

If you wanna do it yourself, here's the steps in a nutshell :)
Step 1 - Wallet: https://electrum.vertcoin.org/#downloads Step 2 - Buy from CoinBase and transfer the cryptocurrency over to the exchange. Step 3 - Exchange: https://shapeshift.io/
Alright so basically, download the wallet.. get it set up through the first time configuration. Make sure to write down your pw/phrase that is generated.
Step 2 - Register on coinbase and add your credit card. Purchase Litecoin (LTC) and the funds may take a few mins to appear in your account. You'll get an email when it is ready.
Step 3 - Go to shapeshift.io and start a transfer of LTC -> VTC. They'll ask for a VTC wallet (to deposit the conversion to) and your LTC wallet (receive address) just incase something happens. When you start the transaction, the site will give you a 5 minute window where they will provide an LTC wallet address for you to send the LTC coins you bought earlier to. Then the process will automatically deposit the funds converted for you in the VTC wallet you downloaded.

You could buy BTC then use shapesift.io to change it into ETH, the only problem is that BTC transaction fees can be high. r/NZBitcoin/ should be able to help you buy BTC. It might be worth saving money each week then buying every month to reduce the fees.

Lots of people in the same boat. Fuck knows where my coins are.
I traded some BTC for BCH on exodus wallet almost 24 hrs back. On the ShapeShift, it showed complete but with no credit in the wallet. Now I see a reverse transaction in my wallet that too in "pending" state. So effectively I lost all the gains in 24 hours on BCH and I would receive back BTC at reduced rate.

There isn't a way to do a direct USD to Bitcoin Cash exchange at the moment if you are in the US. As you mentioned, Coinbase support will change all this. For now, BTC is still a good entry point for BCH. Buy BTC on Coinbase, or better yet, on their exchange GDAX for less fees, then send the BTC to a service like Shapeshift or to an Exchange like Poloniex to swap it for BCH. Also, you can use ETH instead of BTC for stability in process.
Buy Bitcoin/Litecoin/Ethereum from normal exchange
Go to shapeshift.io choose first cryptocurrency, and choose Vertcoin.
Enter Vertcoin address, and a 'refund address' for the coin your exchanging.
Click go or whatever
Send the crypto
Bookmark the page with all the info, just in case
Wait for the Vertcoin to arrive

In regards to that you can think of it like this. The fork created 2 ends of the blockchain. Both still have the same origin in the genesis block and the same history all the way up till the fork. So if you had some bitcoins before the fork they appear on both chains because of that common origin and history. If you bought bitcoin after the fork (which I know you said you didn't) those coins would only appear on the exchanges chosen chain. You could still withdraw them and use ShapeShift to turn them into the other.

Yes essentially it is since you can use a service like https://shapeshift.io to swap Vertcoin for Bitcoin at the point of sale. But obviously this requires an intermediary, although it's still pretty convenient and easy to use. After we have decentralised exchanges coupled with atomic swaps then that'll no longer be necessary, but that's several months away.
