This is for using Coinbase and Electrum (third party BTC wallet).
Create an account on Coinbase and add a payment option. With a debit card, the funds are available to you instantly, but there's a 3.99% fee (you'll pay $104 for $100 worth of btc). If you use your bank as your funding source, there's no fee but the funds won't be available to you for 5-7 days.

Open your Electrum wallet and click on the "receive" tab. Copy the receiving address and paste that into the "recipient" box on Coinbase. It will usually take 30 minutes to an hour for the funds to be confirmed.

Go buy a new cheap laptop with cash. Wipe the OS (optional) and run tails on a live disk (CD). Keep them separate from each other until you need to check your emails. Put the disk in and then use it to access your email. You will lose everything on the desktop when you remove the disk (or power off). It is important that you do not install it on the HDD and that you use the live disk instead.
If your only reason is OpSec for placing the order you don't need a VPN. Just walk around downtown with your laptop until you find an open wifi hotspot, there are probably hundreds of them.
Last time I needed something like that I sat on the bench at a bus stop in front of a nail salon and used their wifi. Just make sure the software on the laptop doesn't do anything else on the internet in the background that might be compromised - you never know if there are password sniffers around.

I grew up on Windows computers, so my transition to Linux was a bit jarring at first. I found Linux Mint to be a great step in the right direction, though.
I haven't really dabbled too much with Wine, largely because I've abandoned all Microsoft software. GIMP really is all I use with regards to image editing, although if you need Photoshop I'd suggest dual-booting Windows 8.1 solely for that and some flavor of Linux for the rest of your sensitive data.
Also, I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but Prism Break is a great resource for truly free software.

There's more to it than just that. Photos can be photoshopped perfectly but if it looks like the person is standing under a light, there's only so much photoshop can do to make it look "natural," it'd look unnatural either way. Typical indicators are being too crystal clear, having the background be a different quality image than the person, redeye fixing, removing ear shadows when it's clear they should be present- for example, look at my picture. The way the flash hit my chin, it made a little shadow under my chin. Therefore, the placement of the flash must mean it'd do the same to my ears. Other ways are having part of the original background be obviously present in the photoshopped version (so if you used a white background, and it was put on a blue backdrop, a white line around you or white splotches in your hair could be present)
Just got a scan for the front of the ID and added it to the post. Here it is.
My scan is at 600 dpi, and you can barely make out the wavy blue lines across my face (which unfortunately I had to blur), but you can see the ones in the bottom of the picture. They are really faint on the white background.

I mean it actually cuts the person out of the photo. It's pretty cool. I know that because on a U21 license I have a scan of, the edge of guy's ear is blurred significantly. I'll edit this comment in a sec with what I'm talking about

On the real one, yes. On Premium's, no. The pic I sent had shadows behind the ears, yet the ID doesn't. Odd, right?
Check the side by side 2400DPI scans of the real IL vs fakes. Middle one is a real one. That's where the info comes from and I have multiple real Illinois IDs in my possession.
