Do you know about the Bitcoin Cash fork? It looks like you have about ~$5,000 of Bitcoin Cash in that address on top of the $53,000 in Bitcoin.

Yeah, you can use https://blockchair.com to look up an address to see if there is Bitcoin Cash. And you can use https://btgexp.com/ to look up Bitcoin Gold addresses.
If you are just holding bitcoin, it is likely you have both. Bitcoin Cash fork happened on August 1st, and Bitcoin Gold happened only a month or so ago.

Evo ti moj referral link: https://revolut.com/referral/nevenii5b!AUG1AR
Pa javi ako napraviš pa ti pošaljem pare ;)

I apologize to everyone who expected the [Draw] to take place at 22:00 UTC. I have messed up my math to the point where, it was 12 o'clock, so all I did was subtract 12 from the UTC clock, and labelled it as the time for the process, under Eastern Time.
The time is now 2:00 UTC due to the misconception. The third block after this time, block number 572710, will be the winner.. This will not happen again. ^^^I ^^^hope...

me too.. I can't have paypal but these methods I'm thinking of:
you can get amazon gift codes? I'll try to put "amazon gift cards" as one of the methods, supposedly you can make $1 gift code here(?) but I never tried that.. so I'll be happy for confirmations.
you can make someone you know use his paypal account and list it as your payment method.. it has to be someone you trust so s/he don't cheat you.
Bitcoin/Dogecoin/Litecoin as you know
Some people advising to use Google wallet
if I found another method I'll put it here

What you described is the right way to do it. Just write your email on the page and let people cut and paste it.
Paypal does not approve of "direct linking". That is where you make an html link that directs the user to Paypal to make a payment. I don't know why they flag it, they just do.
Example:

you can do the same (BUT IT'S EASIER) with https://circle.com https://coinbase.com among others. the beauty of it is it's a technology. it's programmable. we can make it do whatever want as long as it adheres to the protocol (that keeps is secure/trustable etc.). choice is a beautiful thing
PayPal has made TONS of money for eBay, by charging exorbitant fees for simple transactions. For a /r/millionairemakers $1 transaction, PayPal charges 40% markup. Bitcoin = about 2 cents in transaction fees, whether you send one dollar or 100 million dollars worth.
I've done a fair amount of business on eBay, and it always bums me out to see my profits chewed up by PayPal fees. I'm not against anyone making a reasonable profit, but eBay smacks us twice (since eBay owns PayPal, they make their commissions and fees plus the PayPal fees).
Anyway, you might want to download an electrum wallet for your home computer or a Mycelium wallet for your phone and do some transfers from your changetip account to either or both of your wallets. For that purpose, have another set of training wheels /u/changetip
Well that's the thing, /u/smallrye's PayPal account was most likely shut down because he created a new 'personal' account. Based on PayPal's TOS, you can only have two accounts (one personal and one business) and even then you still have to verify your identity for the second account (they both have to match up).
I assume /u/smallrye created a new account because he didn't want to give away his original PayPal email address which could be used to identify him. PayPal typically freezes accounts when they suspect fraud and an instant fluctuation of money going into an brand new unverified account will raise a red flag on PayPal's end. That and the fact that a donation link was posted violated PayPal's fair use policy.
This wasn't an issue with the second winner (which I believe created a secondary email address) and most of his/her payments came in from paypal.
Also, when you set up a secondary email address it basically acts as a mask for your original/confirmed paypal email address. As long as your paypal account is verified and confirmed, you shouldn't have a problem receiving a large amount of transactions.
Edit: spelling and added some more stuff
>TL;DR There is a provably fair way to prove to all participants before after and during the event
This is an option, yes. I didn't think it necessary because Reddit timestamps posts, and I would trust Reddit itself to not lie.
To be extra secure, though, it would be fairly easy for the mods to use what you describe. It is called "proof of existence" and is made very easy with websites like this: http://www.proofofexistence.com/
Congrats!!

My advice: if you want to keep some bitcoins (which is a good idea in MY opinion), be carefull and use some Hardware-wallet (like Trezor or the soon to come Ledger-Blue). Take time to play around with some bits (bits are fractions of a bitcoin), inform yourself (on /r/bitcoin or https://bitcoin.org/en/getting-started), because a lot of misinformation is told by the media (though some media start to understand it better as time goes by)
I'd suggest a different wallet, sounds like the one you have requires a copy of the blockchain. A list of alternatives is visable here, broken down by platform and operating system:
Well, it should all be open source anyways. And hosting a website via Github is free. So if it's built on donated time, and lives in the Millionairemakers github org, in terms of ongoing costs, we're talking like a few bucks a year for a domain.
Thanks for the update. By chance, did we ever come up with a certain day every month to do this? Much easier to keep track of when to enter, when to pay, etc.
And yes, I'm aware of the Pushbullet option.
Welcome!
Also OP if you use PushBullet they have a channel you can stay up to date on the next draw, once you read the side bar and the FAQ section...
I'm using GreenBits which is the Android app for GreenAddress. I don't see an option to choose the fee. Oh well. Thanks for the explanation.
I hope you didn't format that whole table by hand.

Well that sucks. I signed up with them. I'll look into it.
Edit: An ex JP Morgan executive joined Circle but I'm not sure if that makes me want to delete my account just yet. I see this in two ways: Either they commercialize the crap out of it and a bunch of corporate financial stuff I don't understand happens, or he makes Circle one of the most secure, successful Bitcoin services available. I'm sure everyone here will say the former.
Sure! PayPal Works!

> where is the raw code for the blockchain?
Not sure, GitHub somewhere I assume. This might interest you though, it is the original whitepaper where the blockchain was first described by the mysterious inventor of Bitcoins, alias "Satori Nakamoto". This describes how it all works.
It's not necessary to download the Bitcoin core and would be much easier to use a lightweight wallet. I'm not sure about bitaddress.org but it seems more complicated than necessary, I'd recommend choosing a wallet(s) that meets your needs from the this list of Bitcoin wallets.
/u/changetip 1000 bits
There is and Android app that functions as a bitcoin wallet and has a feature to find people around you who want to buy/sell bitcoin. Check out Mycelium.
Of course there is Circle and Coinbase etc as well. Just remember that if you keep your BTC on Coinbase etc, you don't fully control it. Ideally you want to keep your wallet on your own device, but of course this means you are responsible for the security of it. I recommend Electrum for an easy to use wallet. You get a seed, a list of words, that you use to restore your wallet in case your computer breaks, gets lost etc.
It definitely takes some learning and work to get a wallet setup but once you do it gets much easier to use bitcoin.
Ok, here are your wallet choices.
I suggest Electrum. You download the client, and install it.
Next you need to buy some bitcoin. Easiest sites in the US are circle.com and coinbase.com . Other options to buy some bitcoin are localbitcoins.com, craigslist, local bitcoin meetup, local bitcoin atm, and more.
Yes you are! But...
I personally wouldn't download the Bitcoin Core wallet as you will have to download the entire blockchain which will take hours or days to do depending on your internet connection. I would suggest the Electrum Wallet https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet
Keep the questions coming!

Hey everyone, you've got to be in it to win it. However...
You probably won't win it - so let me use my advanced middle-aged years ("Experience is like giving a bald man a comb") to give you practical advice to becoming a millionaire which I wish I had when I was 20...
"More Money" by Noel Whittaker is a great practical guide for general financial stability.
"The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Samuel Clason has timeless revelations for becoming wealthy.
Remember to pay yourself first - 10% of your income, not for holidays, not for a fancy car, but for your self as money to serve as your foundation. After 30 years, you'll have 3 years of income sitting in the bank and you will feel safe.
Remember to make goals and work out a plan to achieve those goals.
Remember that $1 put into super at 20 years of age will become MUCH more money than $1 put into super at 25 years of age.
Work hard but work smart. However, don't let working smart be an excuse not to work hard. Remember that "extraordinary results require extraordinary efforts" - Tony Robbins.
Budget your money, utilise your time. Learn the astonishing power of compound interest!
I learned all this in my mid-30s... I'm working hard and I'm happy - however these lessons are incredibly more potent in your early 20s and late teens and I hope you harness the amazing potential you have in your one and only life. Take it and squeeze with passion.
I would wish you luck, but depending on luck is for fools. You have the opportunity, I wish you the application of your potential as well as the richness of deep friendship and companionship in your life!
This. A few years ago, I read a book titled The Millionaire Next Door, and it radically shifted my outlook on personal finance. Long story short, the vast majority (we're talking 80-90% here) of Millionaires earn and retain their money through an almost unparalleled focus on budgeting and frugal living. For those that "get lucky", however it occurs, the determining factor of whether or not their waccumulated wealth exists a generation later is how much tthey care for their finances
ChangeTip and Coinbase are both considered "wallets" for storing, sending, and receiving Bitcoin. And yes you can transfer Bitcoin between the two, along with other Bitcoin wallets.
The difference between the two is that each offers additional but different services. Coinbase lets you buy Bitcoin for USD. ChangeTip focuses on allowing people to send small amounts of Bitcoin using social media sites like Reddit and YouTube simply by replying to someone like so: /u/changetip 1000 bits.
If you look in your ChangeTip account under the "My Money" tab you'll notice an orange button called "Wallet"; if you click on that it will show you a QR code and a long alphanumeric number - this is your ChangeTip wallet address in which you can send Bitcoin to from Coinbase or another wallet. You'll see something similar in Coinbase which is titled something like "send/receive" bitcoin.
I'd recommend practising by sending small amounts between different wallets. Perhaps try a mobile wallet as well like Mycelium for Android or Bread Wallet for iPhone.
A few things I would do: Pay my medical debt and my parents debt. Pay for a fabulous grave/headstone for my brothers grave (he was 18, and passed away on 10/31/13) (Proof: http://tinypic.com/r/110lvcx/8 & http://tinypic.com/r/2vxodab/8 - need more proof? I will give). Pay for college for my sister and I.

tldr:
MillionaireMakers is a lottery that uses a future bitcoin block as part of how winners are selected so that users can ensure the people running the drawing aren't cheating.
The idea is that everyone puts $1 into the lottery and 1 person wins it all, except the payment happens after a winner is selected so entry is technically free and if you don't donate your $1 no one will know. If we get a million users, and they all donate $1 the winner becomes a millionaire!
The winner of the drawing in based on a bitcoin block that doesn't exist yet, but will exist in the near future. If we are on block 100 now, we can say the drawing will be based on block 105. That way everyone can wait for block 105 and independently verify the the winner. This is done so the people running the drawings can prove that they aren't hand-picking reddit accounts owned by themselves or their friends.
The bitcoin piece is complex, but I can try to explain it.
The way bitcoin works is that transactions (sending money to someone else) get verified in blocks. Each block can have a bunch of transactions in it. The block used to pick the winner this time has 10 transactions in it, and you can see it here: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/block/635716
Every time a new block is added, the computer that added it gets paid with some newly created bitcoins. To add a new block the computer has to solve a really hard math problem by basically guessing and checking. Once a computer guesses correctly, that block will get added to the blockchain.
It takes quadrillions of guesses to create a single block. Something like 0.25% of the worlds energy production is used on those guesses.

It doesn't look like there are any monthly fees as you say - it was those transaction fees I was wondering about. I don't know if this link works outside Oz, but it says that receiving funds across borders is free [for personal accounts], but there are fees attached to receiving funds [for business accounts]. Unless I am misunderstanding something?
why can't you recover your account? paypal provides a way if you don't know your password or email address. and you can use the same bank account on two paypal accounts if paypal approves it.

>You can add a bank account to one PayPal account at a time. However, if approved, you may be able to add the bank to a second PayPal account. You will be informed when linking the bank to the second PayPal account if you have been approved.
yep. sender sees the name of the recipient under an email address, so multiple addresses having the same name would be a way to know.

That comment came from misinterpreting this link: https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/fundraise
Turns out the discounts are only for non-profits. Perhaps setting up an account through that route would be more robust to large numbers of transactions though? Or maybe it's the same as a regular account just marketed a different way? Who knows (not I).
You can use a credit card without an account or anything through the Paypal link.
This is the Paypal link (provided in the donation thread).
On the Paypal site, near the bottom is a section that says: "Don't have a PayPal account? Use your credit card or bank account (where available)".. Just follow the link there that says "Continue"
This is the donation thread (as linked in the post's description and so you don't have to trust the paypal link I provided if you don't want to).
Use this link if you want to change the amount:
I can't believe it's been a whole day and he hasn't bothered to change the links. It's like he doesn't want the money...
There are plenty of terrible charities, but they disclose their expenses and overhead, it's not difficult to find those that offer reasonable ratios.

Bitcoin is a distributed payment network. It doesn't require a centralized paypal or bank to process payments. This means much lower fees, as you are your own bank (the fees are fractions of pennies).
Nobody owns the payment network. It's kind of like the internet of money (as there is no "Internet, Inc.").
Given the distributed nature, it opens up some really cool possibilities for people to do some cool things with money that haven't existed before. It also makes entire industries mostly irrelevant (in theory).
Check out this site for more: https://bitcoin.org/en/
Lets see if I can get you started.
Bitcoins explained - Very good starter video on the front page. Plus more info in the tab.
Bitcoin.org - Lots of info on this site as well.
If you have any questions, ask away.

You already lost 1000 $ in fees due to network congestion !
Don't forget you have Bitcoin Cash too : https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/address/3MWibkwK2G4XJoJJrCHNVJ2SD1UVnTBrxq
It has much lower fees because the maximum block size is bigger and can support more transactions per second
Congratulations!
PayPal is awesome, but have you heard of Revolut?
Revolut has no transfer fee while PayPal charges $1 for transfer. This means you'd get an extra $1 if I send you the money via Revolut! :)
Or better - use a password manager like Dashlane - you can change all of your passwords on all accounts in minutes and it remembers them for you.
The free version works pretty well, but I pay for it so it syncs across all my devices. If my bank notifies me of some suspicious behavior while I am at work, I can go in and change the password on my work computer and when I get home and have time to look at things a bit more closely, the new password is available to me at home without my having to remember it.
Use this link and we both get 6 months free:
International phone numbers are recognised.
Authy site says:
>$0.15 per user + $0.05 per successful authentication.
But that's only Authy there's other 2FA services that could be looked into. It's also possible that the site could have ads to cover the cost of hosting etc..
Thanks, that may be useful. Can't say I fully understand how it'll work, but I've signed myself up! (Link here for anyone else wanting to try)
With ChangeTip you have your very first wallet! You can actually buy Bitcoin through ChangeTip at https://www.changetip.com/money, but buying with www.Coinbase.com or www.Circle.com may be more appealing.
As far as a wallet you could use Coinbase Circle or even ChangeTip, but for a wallet that you won't have to trust anyone I reccomend Electrum https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

Aiming for a Maton EBG808!
I'm an aspiring guitarist with a cheap little Encore EA255 right now and if I managed to get this upgrade I could imagine it would seriously boost my playing level simply because of the physical limitations of my instrument at the moment. Thick neck and high action doesn't help small and weak hands. D:
I ended up taking initiative and publishing an e-book based on some of the tips in this thread, available for free to Kindle Readers here
If you don't have a kindle, you can still get the book for free by joining the Kindle Unlimited Program, which is currently offering a 30 day free trial.

I actually made "Make Me Millionaire" app few days ago :D
It is now available for Android in Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.RichInc.MakeMeRich
In Finland it's illegal to take donations so I'm selling virtual fireworks for 1$ :D
