Sign up with my link and get 60 PLN after you order a card and complete 3 purchases all before the 26th October 2021. While you await the physical card you can use a virtual card as all actions must be completed before the deadline.
I can't really recommend you a particular one (mine wasn't anything special), here are some schools.
I guess the hardest part will be finding an English-speaking driving instructor, they never struck me as being particularly worldly (lots of middle-aged ex-cons), so I suggest you shoot an email to most of those schools. Address should be under "Kontakt" on their websites.
Wise.com. Cheap and best way to send money nowdays. I send a lot of money from US to Poland, because I am doing renovations, and I did extensive research on the best and cheapest way. Nothing beats wise.com.
> Will they take my Maestro Debit at the supermarkets? Are there sick conversions or there is paying in my own currency till I make bank arrangements in Poland?
They will. Debit cards are widely accepted in Poland (not like in Germany :/). Some shops will have a minimum transaction amount displayed (usually 10 PLN), which is illegal (or rather - against the card company rules - technically you could report the shop to Visa/MasterCard) by the way (but most people don't argue with them and most people are unaware of that fact). Those are small shops. In hipermarkets you can even pay for your single candy bar with a card.
As for "sick conversion rates" - that depends on your Croatian bank. You need to check how payments and money withdrawal abroad works in your domestic bank. Take a look at Revolut - it might give you a better offer than your bank. You can order a physical card with them.
> In general, how are Poles? Based on my MMO history I find you generally angry and nervous.
I don't think MMO is a good indicator. :) A lot of people online are jerks.
When I go to Croatia I kinda feel like home. It's like a warm version of Poland. ;) I hope it works the other way, too, and you will acclimatize fast.
EDIT
What else...
Tram/bus network is pretty good. You can use jakdojade.pl to check the routes, the schedule and more. There are mobile apps, too.
We have a growing network of city bikes (wavelo.pl).
During winter, our air is heavily polluted and will slowly try to kill you :P, so think about getting an anti-smog mask and an air purifier. I'm sadly only partially joking here. Those masks are always sold out during the winter months. There are some efforts to fix the problem, but it will take time.
Start with: https://www.amazon.com/Python-Crash-Course-2nd-Edition/dp/1593279280/ If you can't write simple software after finishing that book than programming is not for you and any school or bootcamp is just a waste of time and money.
Another option is Wise (formerly TransferWise) https://wise.com/. You can get accounts in many currencies and when you use one of their debit cards it will convert the amount at good rates. Once you have an account, it is easy to transfer money from a checking account and it takes only a few minutes. They also have a virtual card you can use. I have been very happy with this option while in Poland/Europe.
Have you looked on Airbnb? My friend rented a room for a month outside the tourist town, but literally in front of a tram station, so very well connected for $300usd.
This is the link but you can also just google Blue Room close to the center Krakow Airbnb....
Of course you could also try to get in touch with a hostel in town and see if they do special one-month rates. Or try to negotiate on Airbnb since it is a long-term stay.
Only other option I can think of is going on gumtree.pl but most everything there is in Polish so its a little harder to navigate.
