so do you think this would last you past college? how do you plan to get around the little storage you have? I've been in love with this laptop but haven't really pushed myself to buy it because of the 128gb storage and the reviews on how slow the ssd is compared to others and the wifi is eehh. If you could shed some light on these things I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm late to the party here but I have the N550JK and can say that if hundreds100's text problem is it just being blurry, it's just a Windows setting that needed to be changed. I ran into the same problem when I first got the laptop but this cleared it up perfectly.
The WiFi is pretty wonky for me as well though; it takes a little bit (maybe 20 seconds) to connect out of sleep, which can be frustrating at times.
EDIT: This is for the online store
So, for starters, the top tier model is 1800 USD, which has an automatic $100 off through the Microsoft Store. I was able to get a code that got another 100 off for that model, however when I went back that was not an option. However, I did say this was the top tier model.
There are other models, with different specs, but those are lower than the Yoga. Honestly, the Yoga is a great laptop. Here's a review of your laptop: the TL;DR is that the Ativ is a little faster, has a little better battery life, and is built a little better. I'm not sure if that's worth the extra 500 bucks to you.
Related to your complaint about the Yoga, this laptop has really quiet fans (They also rarely run when web browsing). It also runs super cool, I've been browsing quite a while and it's hardly lukewarm. It's also built really well, so except for a very slightly loose touchpad, it feels incredible sturdy (and the hinge is really solid and has no sound)
Feel free to ask more questions. The Ativ ordered from the microsoft store also comes without bloatware/crapware.
I'm planning on going into IT (networking) and wanted to know if there are programs that you have needed for IT or CompSci that aren't available? also how is it to type on? do the edges dig into your wrists? The other laptop I'm willing to consider is the Asus zenbook infinity ux302la. It all really comes down to who has greater battery life and is easy on my wrists to type on. sorry for a really late comment. thanks
I know you can buy it at Best Buy in "mineral ash black." I didn't really look at retailers when I bought it, so I'm not sure if there's anywhere else
I would say your processor is very nice as well as your video card. I believe that you should be able to play most games. My suggestion is to use this website http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ to view specifications for specific games you want to play.
Would you be able to do me a favor? Could you test Company of Heroes 2 on Can You Run It? It's probably the newest game I'm considering running on my next machine. Even it takes low settings, as long as it has a playable FPS, I'm totally happy. Thanks!
Got 19.76 seconds with password...
Disabled password via this, and it came up in...31 seconds?! Retesting.
Second test went to 14.47 seconds. Much better.
These cold boots were all performed AFTER I'd installed all my programs and added a couple of my own startup applications, which may have affected the startup speed. Still, it's pretty good.
How do the 2gb of VRAM in the 960m handle light gaming? Things like Civ or an FPS on low-medium settings.
Would you recommend this over the Dell Inspiron i7559 despite the Dell's lower price and similar specs on paper?
I was looking at the omen too but I found this... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYZ0J6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2JJCSKZL2AP2E&coliid=I6ZPZBVF2Z6GK&psc=1 lighter, better gpu, better cpu, and it's also cheaper
This is exactly what I was going to post about; I have additional questions; is it customizable (can I upgrade the cpu and graphics later)?
Is it a generally good current gen gaming laptop? Can I play games like Fallout 4, Elite Dangerous, Witcher 3, or Star Citizen? I'm looking for a good gaming laptop.
How does it compare to a Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition VN7-592G-71ZL (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015XBKY6U/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1BLQ0GTY5Y74U&coliid=IV8UEDCT5VEX0&psc=1)?
Thanks very much to any help provided.
Is the Acer Predator 15 worth it at $1499? Personally I think it is and haven't seen any laptops around the same price with what it's offering but I wanted to get some more opinions on this.
Now that 16GB modules are available, could you not upgrade to 20GB total? (4 + 16)?
This laptop is pretty good for gaming. It really depends on what type of games you are gonna play. GTA 5? Shadow of Mordor? League of Legends? You can expect to play league at max settings and Shadow of Mordor at high with good FPS. For more recent games, you will expect to play them at medium to high settings.
When I first got this laptop, I installed my own laptop hdd and went through some problems. First, you have to make sure that your hdd is 7mm 2.5" and not 9.5mm. If you're going to a 1TB HDD, I believe there is only one out on the market. There are a lot of SSD's where the standard size is 7mm but the only 1TB HDD 7mm that I found is here.
Make sure you get 7mm even if you don't get the one from this link or else it won't fit. Since this is an ultrabook, 9.5mm will not fit so that was a pain in the @$$ when I bought the wrong one.
Gaming wise, you can definitely expect this laptop to last for 1-3 years playing games at medium quality since this is a 950 Geforce. This is probably one of the best priced laptops you can find with these specs. Actually, I can't find any other laptop with specs that isn't priced at least $1000.
Hi, I´m trying to decide whether to buy this laptop or this other one: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-X550-15-Inch-Laptop-VERSION/dp/B00NGK7GHG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8
How different are the procesors? Am I going to tell the difference by just browsing the internet, startup time, temperature? Also, are the wireless cards diferent? How? I want to do some light gaming, but I am mostly concerned about good speakers and that it won't get slow if I have too many tabs open on firefox.
Here's the closest thing I could find. The one I got isn't refurbished but it's this model and I got it for near the same price.
Are you sure it isn't 8 GB soldered on with another 8GB slot (Max of 16GB)? That is what someone from ASUS Support answered on the Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/Zenbook-UX303LB-13-3-Inch-Touchscreen-Windows/dp/B00X409AN6/
Yeah, that's true. It's still a really fast SSD though. I'd recommend putting the M.2 SSDs in RAID. Something like a 850 evo should work well.
Hope you haven't spent $50 on dells sleeve!
I bought this sleeve on amazon and it has a premium feel to it and fits perfect.
I ended up with this Adopted sleeve: http://adoptednyc.com/product/case/soho-sleeve-surface-3-black/ Picked it up at Best Buy for $47 on clearance.
Best Buy also had this: http://www.amazon.com/Platinum-Sleeve-Microsoft-Surface-Black/dp/B00JMQUDEG It fit really nice, but I didn't like the style...
I'd say 13" cases fit loose. However, the 2015 XPS 13 won't fit alal 11" cases.
Found this thread while searching for reviews on this laptop. Decided on it because of the big memory and 1080 screen for the price. I will be programming on this a lot, so 1080 and a numpad is much appreciated.
Is this the same one? it appears listed for $735, as opposed to $640. Maybe I'm unlucky, but wanted to make sure http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i5547-7502sLV-15-Inch-Touchscreen/dp/B00IS84QRY/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Could you comment on the build quality? Is the keyboard panel hard plastic or rubbery?
