hey there. someone already did this a couple of years ago. his name is kevin roose and he now works for the new york times. he published a book called The Unlikely Disciple .

also posting this on reddit and boasting about it is probably not your best idea but have fun!
I have some friends/neighbors who have a couple of air bnb rentals that might would be open to a longer rental type situation. Is an awesome property too https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/16250786?ref_device_id=aefe26b59c0b43fd58306e06b669967a3a657265&s=41&user_id=9517301
There's the old standby: hike to the top of sharp top mountain https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/virginia/sharp-top-trail
Blackwater Creek Trail goes right through downtown. Not the prettest place to hike, but good enough and no need to drive to get there. You can also rent a bike from Bikes Unlimited and bike it instead.
I actually just bought this one for my living room.
It definitely doesn't NEEEED an app, but it is handy bc the app shows the filter life and the pollen count outside (I guess based on some kind of weather database). I noticed a difference in the air in my house within a few hours of running it on high, and I didn't even realize I had that much pollen INSIDE until I wiped a slightly dusty area in my house and it was YELLOW.
Pretty much the whole line of LEVOIT air purifiers have great reviews, the filters are easy to change. I'd recommend something with a HEPA filter for whatever room size you need.
I also have this one in my bedroom, next to my bed. My dog sleeps in my bedroom and I like to sleep with the windows open when it's cool outside so this lil baby works overtime so I can sleep through the night without waking up from not being able to breathe. The soft fan noise is helpful for sleep too.
I hope all goes well for you. I know that a friend of mine who has excellent taste in food, beer, as well as knows all of the local trails (we trailrun together) has a spot on Airbnb. It's a little more pricey that what I see available in town, but his link is here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/5848609
If this is true, it would be a disaster for this area. Look at what the surrounding areas turned into at every one of the other Disney parks.
Sure, there'd be a small bump in low-wage employment and taxes, but the problems of traffic, congestion, increased real estate prices, and crime far outweigh the benefits.
When Disney America was first proposed for Northern Virginia in the90's, they wanted to do it right next to Manassas Battlefield, so there was a lot of opposition. My fear is that this part of the state is largely ignored by NOVA, Norfolk, and Richmond, and the short-sighted, short-term goal of making money will trump common sense.
Have you tried geocaching? Sometimes there are group events. We went to one in Rockbridge County a few years ago. It was fun zipping past the other obvious geocachers.
Lots of good facts in this comment, thanks for sharing. I challenge your statement about no one knowing John Lynch because the bridge connecting mad heights to DT is called the “John Lynch Memorial Bridge” and whenever this topic is brought up on other social media platforms, I always see some reference to the Quaker, John Lynch, who distanced himself from his brother. Lynchburg was founded as a Quaker town and had heavy emphasis on religious freedom. To site my sources, I read the book: “Yankee Town, Southern City” by Steven Elliot Tripp. Highly recommend to any history lovers. The book dives into our towns race relations in the beginning of its construction and notes that blacks and whites got along very well until after the civil war. The book sites specifics like non-segregated bars, restaurants and other community areas DT. This all took a turn for the worst during reconstruction and sites how prominent black citizens started to gain power in local government, thus leading to the Jim Crow era. Hey, sorry I was backpacking this weekend and just got home. Looks like you talked to Jon as well, he messaged me. I'm totally cool if you want to be a player. I have been crash-coursing myself in learning how to DM. Thus far it been good, (only 1 session in, so far)
So, we meet Wednesday nights at 7:00 at my house and typically play till 10:00 to 10:30. We will be meeting this coming Wednesday night. In the future we may play every other Wednesday if I start to get behind on prepping for sessions. The only thing you would need to bring would be dice and if you have the Player's Handbook, great. If you don't have the PHB, it selling on Amazon for $20. So don't feel like you need to guy play $49 today at that place in the mall. I would say you eventually should get it, but we can make do then you get it. I have everything else you guys might need.
We are doing the Lost Mines of Phandelver. If this is something you want to do with us then we (you and your boyfriend) can roll some new character sheets. I have time this afternoon and tonight. Late Monday night (after 9:00pm). And then after 5:00 pm on Tuesday. If you were already doing LMoP campaign, and don't want to do it again. I may be able to start scrambling other stuff into it to make it fresh and new for you. The other players won't know because, "they won't know" :)
Anyway, I need to buy some groceries for the week.
My name is Ben, by the way.
