What's my best shot at getting my husband's hard rock band a spot on your tour?
^bracing ^myself ^for ^downvotes, ^will ^do ^whatever ^it ^takes ^to ^help ^my ^man
I used to busk on the streets of Iowa City. At one point a man with a black acoustic guitar strapped to his back and a pet mouse living in a big gulp cup walked up to me and politely asked to play along. We played into the night and went our separate ways. 2 days later I saw him on the front page of the Des Moines Register draped in the county orange. Turns out that the night we played together, he was on America's Most Wanted. He had escaped from prison and made his way North. He was spotted the day after we played by a passerby. Later, a friend and I wrote a song about it. Like to hear it? Here it goes. I'm not Ryne Doughty, I provide the backup vocals. The song was written by the two of us.
*edit: Thanks all for the positive feedback!
Hope I can ask my question here, as it's related: If I'm a songwriter who has great songs with great production, how can I get a staff-writing or song publishing deal? I know that my songs are good, and I know that my recordings sound good; I just don't know how to get them heard. Being a songwriter for a record label/various artists is my dream job, and it's hard to tell how to go about it.
I admire your talent and success: thank you for doing this AMA regardless of whether you have time to answer my question :)
*edit: From below, here's some examples of my songs, in case people want to pat me on the back/pick me apart :)
Recent examples: tracks 1 and 4 off of my band's latest EP, <strong>Believe the Honesty, Bro</strong>. I like the whole thing, but track 1 is the one people like the best, and track four is my favorite.
*edit: here's a Christmas-sounding song that's not a Christmas song, but sort of is: <strong>How We Can Know</strong>
Here's a song called <strong>Wizard Sex</strong>. It's an older song by my band The Sleepover, and it's not my favorite one that we do, but it's the one that's garnered the most praise. It's a song about Hermione from the point of Ron Weasley (I wrote it in the midst of my HP obsession).
Radioactive has never been placed so appropriately imo. The shows composer is Evan Frankfort. He has a band named the "Spiritual Machines" who did the song we have all been obsessed with called 'Couldn't Stop Caring.'
Just in case you want to listen to some of her "hits" to make your ears bleed a little more. And her quote: "Here is a throwback- some music I recorded a few years ago before I became GEM. I will also be posting music from "Shattered Mirror"- my demo that is getting me where I'm going now. Working on brand new material and making deals and about to explode. No more info. Just that. U will just have to wait and see." Demo Reel
Here's my band Devilwood from Seattle, WA.
We're kind of hard to classify as a band, but we call it "Acid Folk." It's kind of a punk rock take on dark rootsy music with a chick singer. We say Jefferson Airplane meets Johnny Cash.
Here's our ReverbNation with a couple songs. We recorded our album in March and it's FINALLY finished and will be released soon (all digital), so like our facebook for more details!
The name of the song is "What do you Know" and I do have a studio version, very simple available at my store, the link is:
http://www.reverbnation.com/store/store/artist_1604463?item_type=music
I believe it is original. Here is the opening theme song. Evan Frankfort is the show's official composer. In the comments Evan Frankfort Doc Dauer and Liz Phair are credited with creating the theme music.
Evan has a band many of us became obsessed with last week called "The Spiritual Machines". Here is the song they did for Bodyguard of Lies episode, it's called "Couldn't Stop Caring" in case you want to hear more from him. He's crazy good.
And while we're at it, let me share my favorite version of it with you:
<em>A Good Man is Hard to Find</em>, by the New Orleans Moonshiners. ^^Swing ^^dancers, ^^gather ^^round!
>Wait a minute, you better talk to my mother
No, Rakim is the Wittgenstein of hip hop and the Bertrand Russell of hip hop is Bertrand Russell.
my old band wrote a song a few years ago called "diphenhydramine lies" after an insane experience my buddy and i had involving it. notice the lyrics "nothing but a bunch of motherfucking bugs"
Specs for those wondering:
Paiste Signatures unless noted:
Here's a link to some recent recordings. Done by me in my basement studio.
That's not actually a joke, it's a...Death Folk? (seriously, I have no fucking idea what they would call themselves) band composed of guys from my old high school...unless you're a member or friend of theirs, in which case...KRAUSE'S FREEDOM SPRINGS ETERNAL! LONG LIVE THE SOVIET OCTOPUS!!!
Haha I have the dumbest smile plastered on my face right now. Thanks kind stranger. :D
Edit: Firestarter '82 for the kind souls that don't want to dredge through my history
Oh, and if you missed it, frontman Ryan Eldred put out some solo tracks this past fall. Maybe they'll turn into Catch 22 tracks?
http://www.reverbnation.com/skagoessolo/song/19167666-ryan-eldred-the-diviner
They don't have an album yet, but should be finished recording by August. Their last upcoming show before the album finishes is this Thursday June 14 in Philadelphia. Unfortunately I won't be able to go, but I urge you to go if you can make it. Their live show is incredible.
S.T.A.R.W.O.O.D - FB event
>S.T.A.R.W.O.O.D. Think Queen from outer space. Real Carl Sagan type jams. Dueling synths and a whole lotta disco ball mirrors. I'm not doing them any justice what-so-ever: http://www.reverbnation.com/starwood
edit to add: Love Your Lawnmower is probably my current favorite song by them.
Yeah it was very bittersweet. The kid who died introduced me to NMH, and I got him into the Dead. He had a tattoo of the phonograph airplane from the IATOTS booklet, and had mentioned that he wanted to get a weeping willow done for the line in Brokedown Palace.
Here and Here are links to some of his Music if anyone's interested. Has a Bright Eyes/Elliot Smith vibe.
I have been in bands pretty much my whole life (I am 32 now). It all started in high school when 3rd wave SKA hit. I learned then how hard it is to coordinate a band with 7 members.
I took a couple years off at one point but always missed band practice, playing shows and having a group of friends that really know each other. Spend 2 week in a van with 5 other people and you will get to know them VERY well.
I did everything from rock bands to surf to a very awful progressive rock band. Beside the fun of being in a band (it's not all fun mind you) there is an opportunity for even someone introverted like myself to make a lot of new friends. I would have never met my girlfriend if it wasn't for my band.
shameless self promotion. not really a punk band but I dunno what else to call it: http://www.reverbnation.com/theomegamoo
full disclosure: I sort of consider myself an amateur student of popular music and really listen to everything and try to dissect it to its elements. Not sure if this is an exclusively guitar rock forum and if people are going to be pissed that I am talking about Mariah Carey and country music...anyway this is the type of music I make with my band if you want to check it out.
"The Break" - Sylvana Joyce + The Moment - Gypsy-Rock/Baroque-Pop.
Check out the rest of the reverbnation to hear more. I am the guitar player, btw. Please, let me know what you think and, if you want any info, please message me here.
Get a hold of Zandra from Zandra productions. PM her at http://www.saskmetal.com. She doesn't just do metal as she works at The Exchange. She'll probably be able to line you up with some bands.
You could also try http://www.qcp.proboards.com/ NOTE: These people can be cunts apparently. I'm not sure as I don't post there.
Also the drummer from my band is in a pop-punk band as well. Want me to talk to him? http://www.reverbnation.com/aperfectpunchline
Temple of Blood - [Huntsville, AL / USA]
Intense melodic power/thrash metal influenced by Megadeth, Annihilator, Judas Priest, Dark Angel, Forbidden, etc.

We're currently rehearsing the material for our 3rd album and I cannot wait to get this released to the public and see what the reaction is!
Mortius [Nashville, TN] We call ourselves death-thrash. We're huge fans of both genres and we like to inject as much of both into our music as we can. We just love making heavy music. We've been described as "old school groovy death metal" with heavy influences from Cannibal Corpse and Bloodbath. We're going to start playing gigs come the end of the year, so if you're around here and see us on a bill, come check us out!
I play bass in a south east London band! We're called The Pisdicables and we currently have gigs with The Toasters, King Hammered and Chewing On Tinfoil coming up this year!!

Cool stuff man! My band plays Reggae/Rock, we arnt signed, I dont really care about royalties and all that stuff. Check us out if you can and if you dig it, play some! Bottle in my Bed seems to be the crowd/radio favorite in my town.
http://www.reverbnation.com/themdamnstingrays
Btw thats just streaming, if you need MP3s or high quality WAVs just PM me!
Built last spring, been gigging with it almost exclusively with one of my bands. Other than the learning curve of standing on one leg, this thing has been an absolute blast!
Haven't built a custom snare yet. Just using a cheapo Pearl piccolo, which is actually working quite well so far.
http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_10520582 - here's a song we recorded last summer right after the build was complete. Three mic setup - Beta 52 underneath, two KSM44s for overheads.
Found his reverbnation page here and a facebook page here
EDIT: found his youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/violin2003?feature=watch
I'll get a clearer picture Wednesday night. http://i.imgur.com/PaqzK.jpg
Taye Studio Birch 10" 12" 14" Toms 6x14 snare and a 4x10 snare on the left
Cymbals- L to R: (All Supernatural cymbals) 17" Omega China, 12" Divine Splash, 13" Heritage hats, 20" Impact Crash, 10" Diamond splash, 21" Prototype ride (ended up becoming the Heritage line, this ride sounds so good), 17" Prodigy Pro crash, 19" Revelation crash/ride (my "power crash")
Not shown is the SDS unit (a little bank of trigger pads that I use to call up sound effects)
I'm on tour with a Sublime tribute act.
That's fucking awesome. We have a show in Hartford on 7/29 so bring lots and lots of good weed. 40oz to Freedom, a Sublime Tribute band.

Hey really, really dig your stuff. I'm starting up my own shoegaze/dreampop project here (most of these songs don't have any vocals because I'm looking for someone to fill that role):
http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/artist_songs/1136401
These are just shitty demos recorded in my bedroom. Anyhow, I'm a versatile guitar player, who would be interested in doing something stylistically different in a support role for another band.
I love The National and Sufjan Stevens, and your stuff seems to be more in that vein.
Check out this track. My verse is at the end.
Lmk. I’m down.
Btw the other song on there isn’t mixed or edited I just put it up for the fuck of it.
I live in (near) Charlotte, and you can bet your ass I'll be going to this!
Here's what the Facebook event page says: > And I'll see you. And you'll see me. And I'll see you at Snug Harbor May 1 for a celebration of the cult television series Twin Peaks, featuring Sam the Lion, Toleman Randall and Grey Revell's Roman Candles performing a mix of original music and selections from the "Twin Peaks/Fire Walk With Me" soundtracks. Come dressed as your favorite character. Proceeds from the door will benefit Safe Alliance, an organization dedicated to helping the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In Darkness (Regina, sk, Canada)
We kind of walk that line between metal and rock. The one album we have is mostly rock centred but our second album is looking to be considerably heavier and more orchestral in writing. We've been compared to everything from Pantera to Pearl Jam, Godsmack hell we even heard someone compare us to Sepultura(which I think is a is bit a stretch but whatever)
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/indarknessband
Or you can listen to our entire album at Http://www.reverbnation.com/indarknessband
First... I don't need 45 minutes of his bullshit attitude when it takes all of 3 minutes to explain the pros and cons of a string type objectively and leave the decision up to the viewer.
Second... Give good old Scotty an actual LISTEN and tell me how much more of his "advice" you are willing to consider after hearing this crap.
I've always loved C - B+ - Gm/Bb - A7. It's based on chromatically descending major thirds, which gives it a sort of ragtime feel. I first heard it in the theme from Super Mario Brothers 2, and then later went on to use it in my song "Lonely Octopus".
Rymodee has some really good stuff on reverbnation.
I've also found this and this.
If you guys use Soulseek, my name on there is SneakyPhil and I should have almost every single thing TBIAPB has ever released.
It sounds like the music artist Professor Logic has dubbed over it. Here is a website for his music http://www.reverbnation.com/professorlogic
So it seems like you just have to email Professor Logic and ask if it is original work or dubbed from something, and if dubbed, then from what?
This doesn't seem like TOMT, you never knew what this was from. This may be original work from the artist, designed to sound like Barbarella aged dialogue. It isn't much different than if you asked what Noir movie/show on the TV/radio something was from, to find out it was recent, original work just designed to sound Noir.
This is almost definitely a ghost hunt, and even if it was British from before the '80s, how would a digital transcript get online? Captcha the image of the transcripts would be the only way I could think of, and not likely
edit: important to note, they just put out an AMAZING new album: Zero Point tune in now to be an "early" adopter (i've been a fan for 10 years now).
The 18th is part of the extended weekend, right? Agora Forte is playing Whiskey Junction and there is no cover! They are a pretty fun prog rock group from the Twin Cities. The lead singer is a long time lurker, so I will do my best to promote on his behalf.
Download it from (who I'm assuming is the creator) Here.
It's my text notification tone, and it scares the crap out of me in the middle of the night. Coworkers say it sounds like a whale ಠ_ಠ
To be fair, The Thrown are technically a real thing, and she could have misinterpreted the denial of Simba's inheritance of the animal kingdom with a dismissal from the grindcore metal group based out of Cleveland, Ohio. The Lion King does not explain this distinction very well, I can see the misunderstanding.
Wow. My father also died of a heart attack at age 49, and I was 20. It was tough. I hope you're doing well. I've done everything you've mentioned except take care of myself. I hope you do. I wish I did. I really wish I did. That was 20 years ago, and I am told I am not expected to make it another 10. Now I am going to put my children through the same thing. The time goes by rather quickly. We are all here for an insanely short amount of time. Be good to yourself, and those around you. Today is your whole life.
I play in Rebuild Repair (beware of shitty recording)
Opening for The Frolics on November 4th(1st show)
what instrument(s) do you play? and what's your favorite so far?
I used to play guitar in my church (not for the God, but for the tunes) and the bass player and I would rip into Let It Be when the crowd was leaving. One day we got a bit ballsy and got about 30 seconds into Helter Skelter before the church music director turned us off.
Either way, I'm a huge fan and have learned about 90% of the songs.
A few years ago I made these recordings: http://www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/3412474 have a listen?
Oh! I also forgot... in my copy of "Bit/Crushface," by Music From the Film, the artist includes homemade 45 adapters, with off-center holes for listening to the record in new ways. You can see a photo of it here:
Sweet! I went to U of T...
My band will be playing at Ella Lounge on Thursday. No cover, no minimum, and I'd love to talk to another Torontonian.
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/226769
It is called "Your Destiny".
Made by this dude http://thatcomposerguy.newgrounds.com/
Brian Holmes, this is his website: http://www.reverbnation.com/brianholmes
So a ReverbNation page (and I've included my bands here) is a simple location where folks/bar owners/etc can see the band, listen to clips, etc. It's like $20/month but worth it. You don't necessarily need your own webpage like the old days. Also, make a FB page and have all your friends be fans of you.
So what we did to start out was play very small places for very little money. Now, we are just 3 so our options of places to play is interesting in that we can play very small venues. The challenge is that we can't play huge rooms (which we don't necessarily care but that is a challenge). If you guys are a big band, then it is tough to get into smaller rooms, which is where a lot of people start.
You aren't going to get good paying gigs off the bat. You just aren't. So you need to go hat in hand and say we will play for "x". Never pay to play but you guys may only get $100 for the first few shows. One of the best things you can do is find a place and have them book you as a regular (like once a month or something). You'd be amazed how that plus 1-2 other gigs fills the calendar and it looks like you guys are really hustling/playing.
What you can also do is say "ok, we will do this first gig for free but we get tips and $50 bar tab. If we do well, you book us 4-5 times at "x" price". And make sure you pack that place. Bar owners/clubs care about making money, that's all. You can have Bono/Sting/Geddy Lee and Charlie Watts playing a show and if no one is there, they won't book you back.
Keep asking questions if you have them.
If you're interested, check my work out at http://www.reverbnation.com/brandtheplanet and http://filthyave.bandcamp.com
Lead singer of Blue Mischief here. Would love to work with you guys. Blue Mischief - Reverbnation
Forsakken [New York, NY USA] I'm playing drums in in Forsakken... Female fronted heavy metal band that draws heavily from the Dio era Sabbath sound. I can't tell you specifics about the music because I'm a drummer, but I can tell you we have an aggressive sound. We're playing Queens NY tomorrow night.
http://www.reverbnation.com/forsakken (I've been in the band only a few months, so all the drumming on this page was done by the last guy... I don't wanna take credit from him here)
Descent of a Tyrant - Vancouver, WA
We're a pretty new band, a mix of Hardcore and some metalcore, but we're still sorta finding our sound. We played the Hawthorne Theater in Portland last July! You may have seen us there!.. Probably not 😕... But anyways... Link!! http://www.reverbnation.com/descentofatyrant/song/22865390-end-of-it-all?1336410755
I've always wanted to compose for movies and vidya games. You can find my more contemporary stuff here: http://www.reverbnation.com/murphree That's me singing n playing piano, it's not like this piece at all though, I'll post some more when I have them recorded. I think I'll record one tonight haha, wasn't expecting this response. :)
Holy...shit. Thank you for introducing me to this. I'll now spend the next hour or two binging all these songs.
Edit: So far my favorite song is this one
One of my favorite local bands has a parody that starts out with the line 'Today I got a cold sore', but I don't think their implication is that they mistakenly ate gluten.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate all the kind comments! I have started a YouTube Channel (Desiree Bowen) and I also have a website with some original songs and covers, but nothing video game related on there (yet!) http://www.reverbnation.com/desireebowen
This is my band's page. The songs Lilacs and Again are the 2 new "radio friendly" songs. Again is definitely the up tempo 90s rock song- think Alter Bridge. Lilacs is slower and relaxed. http://www.reverbnation.com/bloodonatwenty?mobile_redirection=disabled
This was my metal band. These songs were already written, but I did the solo on Soldiers of War. It was the best I could play at the time, but Im much faster and cleaner now. Unfortunately there's no videos of the recent performances where I let go and shred. http://www.reverbnation.com/draxsis
EDIT: Here's a video of another band I played in. Its a couple years old, right there with the metal band I linked to above. Its a cover of an old Metallica song, but thats the best video Ive got. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCacKA9tnyo
Ian Moore is a great musician and showman. Over the years, I've talked to him numerous times and he has always been a pleasure to converse with.
He's probably my favorite that I can remember by name, but there have been so many, it's hard to remember them all.
The Midas Touch - [San Diego/Ca] Old school heavy metal with a modern edge, kind of like Maiden meets Pantera, Priest meets Megadeth type deal. We're about to enter the studio for our second album, and have spent the last year honing our sound and getting back into the local scene.
Our current plan is to start some light touring in support of the 2nd album early/mid 2015. Hit us up to book something radical!
Absolutely this. Also, local band Youngtree supported them at a recent gig and they're obviously heavily influenced by Groundation, right down the lead singing looking like Harrison. You might enjoy what they're offering up.
Who needs the front page when you can browse this sub via the report queue?
This article is quite good, in that it has facts and stuff, rather than reblogged whatever.
> Daniels said all 88 tickets to the Sept. 21 event – held at the theater in the city’s civic center - have been sold. The parks and recreation department, which rented the space to the group for $420, cited First Amendment protections in allowing the group to meet in a public facility.
The band is "God in a Machine", which bills itself as an "Industrial / Metal / Hardcore" band from Stillwater, OK.
Somehow I don't think it will be hard to get the audience to arrive wearing black, as the organizers have requested.
Hell yes, this band fucking rules. There's an artist from my city that plays similarly styled country. Anyone who enjoys this may enjoy his music, too. Paul Waggener's Reverbnation page.
This is me. Haven't really made anything I'm proud of yet though. So far it's just generic amateur "dance" music.
I also played guitar for a group called Roundheels.
Five Iron played Nashville back in November. I too have been looking recently...
Nashville based Soul Radicals seem to have a gig July 17 in East Nashville
Buzz Mill (over on East Riverside) did it last night (Blue Ox BBQ). Very reasonable. $6 for a pulled pig sammy on a bun or $6 for two pulled pig tacos.
Banger's does it from time to time too. It is in house (those mo-fos can cook!). I actually preferred Bangers (I am not complaining about Blue Ox) but you are paying a lot more for Bangers. You also get sides though. Even when you factor in the sides Bangers was much more expensive. I seem to recall we payed over $20 a plate and I think that is a lowball estimate.
Bonus for Buzmill, Bob Apple was playing. If you like old school country he is a must see in Austin. He looks like a 22 year old Asian guy (so he is probably 29) but sings all the old stuff Starting with Hank Williams Sr. through the 70's outlaw country movement. We talked to him and he said he knows about 300 country songs from that time period. And he is good.
I love this song so much.
I mean, really, you're going to list all the terrible oppressions faced by men and the worst you can come up with is that some women might want you to hold doors for them?
Also, I love how many of the lines don't scan, or even come close to it.
Fun fact: the guy who recorded it was organizing some sort of AVFM event in Nashville, and soliciting donations for it, only to cancel it at the last minute. I don't think the donations were everrefunded, and he seems to have vanished after that, and his artistryagainstmisandry website has been down for a year or two -- though I see he has a new site up with more music on it.
"Jesus saves and the doctor takes the fee
You wanna save mankind? Don't breath
That's the way I like it baby, I don't wanna live forever
Death to all senior citizens and senators
They prey on survivors that prey to a power no higher then the script they're prescribed from"
Just like sharing this guys work TBH local dude from Jersey who really kills it if you like Hip-Hop.
~~It's close.~~
Edit: The intro to their song Creature of Habit sounds like the start of Blockbuster by The Sweet
Here's our reverbnation: http://www.reverbnation.com/themindsetdc
It's badly outdated, though. Our sound has evolved a lot since those couple of pieces were put up.
I do both backend in Java and front end in Javascript although lately I've been living in the front end almost exclusively.
Love this band. They are from my hometown and about to kick off their tour. My band is actually doing a show with them on the 28th! Check it out! In Days Forgotten
I was in a band before I got hooked onto electronic music, we were like a post-rock, indie band. I've been playing piano since I was a kid and picked up a guitar in like 6th grade and i've been playing ever since(freshmen in college now). I have a good grasp of intermediate-some advanced level theory I would say and it really does help you get to where you want to be a lot faster. I would definitely encourage anyone to learn basic theory(I would say a good amount, but once you get started you usually want to learn more anyway).
/unjerk From his page:
>Also in Jan of 2014 he was named #1 DJ/producer in Murfreesboro, TN by ReverbNation.
At least he's not making stuff up
So, I was curious and I Googled my username. Well, apparently I'd be playing this. Just to be clear, this is totally not me.
What's funny is that I too will one day be Dr. Najos.
Also, one of my favorite Austin bands will be here on the 18th of Nov at Luna. They play swamp blues, hope you enjoy them as much as I do
Thanks. We're called Tonight We Strike and we just have a free digital EP out on ReverbNation and Spotify. Trying to come up with the funds to put a 7" out soon.
Hahaha......I feel old I was born in 1978. I was 13 or 14 and went to a concert with my dad. A band named Nirvana was playing. I was in awe at the music, but also there was a familiarity in the lyrics. "This Kurt guy really gets it." I thought. The next day I bought every Nirvana album I could find. Then got into other great bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney. The day Kurt died was hard on most of the young fans of Nirvana and it was a tragic loss that the music industry has yet to recover from. There hasn't been any bands with that kind of impact since and I doubt that there will ever be again. That one single noght is the reason I became a musician. Here's our site if interested.....keep rocking.
His granddaughter's pretty interesting. HRH Princess Sikhanyiso Dlamini: she's spoken out against her father (Mswati III) and her grandfather for practicing polygamy. Also, she's a rapper.
Muse live in 2010 was spectacular, but as far as little shows go, there was this local "screwgrass" group called Ghosts of Swinetown who played a coffee shop about a month ago. They were really good, horribly overlooked, and it was a good set. They have a great vocalist. And then they closed with a bluegrass-rock cover of Tool's Sober.
That was one of the single best things I've ever heard.
I'm right there with you, subby. I recorded an album about two years ago, still have 800 copies sitting in boxes in my office (yes, I way over-ordered). Getting any decent gigs is really hard where I am, and since I'm a professional scientist the stigma of not wanting to work 24/7 on science is hard to overcome.
A couple of years ago, I wrote a song every week for a year - I called it The Year Of Song, and I'm planning on starting another the week before my 39th birthday (coming up soon).
Please keep going - I'm too old to make it huge, but you're probably not. Somebody's got to do it - I'm married, have lots of animals that my wife wanted, have a job that supports all of that, lots of bills, etc .... I trapped myself, but I bet you're not trapped. Use your freedom to do what you want - do it for schlubs like me.
My band 4 aspirin morning is playing. Plus killer acts like deals gone bad, something to do and the invaders. Actually every band here is killer. Come and skank with me and I will reward you with a chain wallet and a bowling alley!
Well, first off, my personal favorite: Hadwynn. Also you have Singer/Songwriter Arielle Bryant and rock 'n roll group The Ethnographers. There is a huge music scene in the area, just do a little snooping in the Independent and you're on the right track. Cheers.
I haven't made this available for download yet, but it's awesome nonetheless.
I have, however, made this album available for purchase. It's not as polished, but still pretty cool.
I've been to see the Mirage Jazz Ensemble a few times (at different places). They have a player in common with Rio Novo Brazlian Quintent, who will be playing at Eastside Showroom on 09/02/11 (they sometimes play at the Iron Cactus North, too).
I'm going to link some more local talent here in a second.
EDIT: IDK how to link to a certain song, but here is a kid named J Royale from West Charlotte. Guarantee he's going places. For something short and sweet, check out his Fire Flame Spitta. Starts kinda weak but picks up quick, same with Ransom.
So I have this other song called excited that uses open G tuning. The bass player in my band (who is also a guitarist) wrote the chord progression/riff and I came up with the vocal melody while he played the chord progression. I came up with the first few lines of the song on the spot and spent the next week coming up with lyrics after I had the melody in my head. I have a tiny moleskine notebook that fits in my backpocket so I was carrying that around coming up with lyrics randomly throughout my day.
The standard lineup is bass, drums, guitar, and vocals, but we always feature a guest soloist or two, tonight it's an alto player, next week we might have alto and trumpet.
We're actually trying to do something original and fresh, so we're doing relatively lesser-known songs ("Isn't this a lovely day to be caught in the rain", or "Shine on your shoes") in a harder, more modern, straight-ahead way. Think Michael Bublé, but blacker, and from Harlem.
And yes, we do have a non-facebook spot on reverb nation. I'll add it above too. The volume's a little low on the site, so you'll probably want to turn it up a bit. It's live at Ella, just something we recorded on a zoom.
No problem. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.
I also went kayaking in Newport Beach Bay recently that was really fun, Getty Center in Malibu, Huntington Gardens in Pasadena, this sounds bizarre but there was this square dancing thing I went to that was SO much fun by these guys (http://www.reverbnation.com/triplechickenfoot) that you must go if you guys are up for anything.
I like the beat the guitar is what really sets the vibe the bass seems weird to me but not a deal breaker I record myself and a few other local artists you can listen here lmk
Keep grinding

Hahaha love this type of creativity. You did a great job sampling the theme song. Mixing of the vocals is also pretty clean. The guy spitting also killed it. Great delivery nice flow. I think the same thing about the hi hats as technicallymexican. A bit of variation off the velocity. Great track overal keep it up.
Here's mine http://www.reverbnation.com/open_graph/song/27794292
I recommend using headphones, recorded using standard apple earbuds/mic, iPhone 5, GarageBand.
It could well sound terrible on good speakers, not saying it sounds good, but, have a laugh.
Sketch Bag [Macgregor, Manitoba, Canada]
I'm working on some Gwar inspired music with some buddies and have one song demoed so far. Looking for opinions and criticisms. http://www.reverbnation.com/open_graph/song/27239101
Hi, folks! I'm a vocalist looking for some projects! Currently working on an EP of original music (mostly folk and acoustic rock), here's some of that: http://www.reverbnation.com/brettknickerbocker
But I've also taken part in projects exactly like this already! Did a cover of Maiden's Alexander The Great: https://soundcloud.com/maidenfans/alexander-the-great
And I'm currently working on vocals for Rush's Limelight, a project put together over at /r/Rush

17/M This is a single from my metal band, usually when we play out the comments are directed towards my guitar playing instead of vocals (bar P.A's suck) so I'm curious what actual vocalists think. Give me hell!
She put this up last year: http://www.reverbnation.com/playlist/view_playlist/-4?page_object=artist_3620718#
She does NOT produce for herself. You do not go from not being able to pitch your kick to the right key to this in one year. On top of that, DWX have already sort of hinted at her being a ghost by saying she is the face of Mandy, implying that she's just going to be DJing.
God Am [Noblesville, USA] We're a 4 piece Grunge/Doom Metal band. Sounds like an Alice in Chains, Tool, and Godsmack smoothie. Currently gigging locally to build a local fanbase and are hoping to do mini tours in the Midwest next year!
