The ~~wo~~man who runs it is a noise engineer, and the site has a ton of different, adjustable soundscapes that can play for hours without truly looping.
The .net is important, the .com version is a guy stealing all of their work.
Edit: Welp, now I know what 'RIP Inbox' means. And also 'Reddit Hug-O-Death'. Maybe I should email the Dr. and apologize...

If you are in the US and have a valid .edu email account, visit here to get 50% off. It's a fantastic service, and I use it all the time! I signed up because T-Mobile did the unlimited streaming, and it was worth it!
And you get Hulu with your Spotify subscription for no extra cost
Edit: I should clarify that you get a Hulu subscription for no extra cost only if you already have a student discounted Spotify subscription. You have to sign up for this in a certain way and I think it's only available in the US
Edit 2: I think this is the link to sign up for the Hulu account. It's from September so it might not still work right
So let me get this straight:
Bell, Rogers and Videotron were the ones who searched his house, not LEO.
The search lasted 4 hours longer than it was legally allowed to.
Defendant was forced to answer questions under duress.
Defendant is forced to sign over passwords to email/social media. Again not by LEO, but Bell, Rogers and Videotron.
Defendant was denied right to counsel.
Fuck Rogers, Fuck Bell, Fuck Videotron and Fuck Canada for letting this happen.
If this isn't a case for Apple's version of Spotify Connect, don't know what is.
As it stands now, you can't use your iPhone's Music app to control Apple Music on Alexa devices, Google Home/Nest devices, and now PS5.
MyNoise. This website features a massive array of sound generators useful for meditation, relaxation and concentration purposes. Everything from natural noises like rain, fire, forest, desert, beach, rivers, to familiar ambiences and instruments, to synthesized and experimental soundscapes and drones. Something for everyone and super easy to use. Almost all done by one guy, and he needs the support.
I'm so happy to have learned about Shepard Tones recently so I have a direct way of describing the rising crescendo of internal screaming as I read this.

https://mynoise.net/noiseMachines.php has over 100 different noise generators that let you customize the volumes of the different frequency levels of the noise generated. They vary from fans and rain to electric piano, fish tanks, and so really ethereal sounding ones. I love it.

Try spotify premium for 99c for 3 months. I believe new customers only. But give it a try see which is best. Just remember to drop it before the 3 months is up if you don't want to renew.
That's an awesome lamp, I love lamp. I've just started using https://tabletopaudio.com/ to make custom D&D soundboards that I use in combination with atmospheric or combat-y music to create atmosphere too. I highly recommend it. my preferred combat track is the Witcher 3 combat music ;)
I looked up the terms and conditions but I didn't see anything about US only. This offer was shown and found on the Spotify US website, though.
IINA is basically mpv + a decent UI. The stock UI of mpv is extremely minimal, as it is mostly controlled via the keyboard. These keyboard commands appear to also work in IINA.
Both are preferable to MPlayerX which has been known to bundle adware/malware via its installer.
Huh. I was wondering why this looked familiar: I took that photo in Berlin, during the QtCon 2016.
Good to see u/jbkempf and VLC getting some love outside the Free Software bubble. I had the opportunity of talking to him live and he told me how they have to fight off patent trolls and aggressive copyright lawyers all the time. He also told me a fun story about the beginning of the project.
Amazon Prime (unless we're boycotting them, I don't know), many networks air their shows on their websites next-day.
Googling Showname s0Xe0X will usually link you to some video sharing sites.
https://kodi.tv/ with the appropriate add-ons.
~~I really should have jumped on the $.99 for 3 months deal they had a couple days ago~~ It's still up, but to be completely honest I don't get out of the house enough to justify the $10/month that it becomes afterwards. Especially being a high school student, I'm really only listening to music on mobile to and from school. Otherwise I'm at my computer or listening to podcasts.
I used to busk on the streets of Iowa City. At one point a man with a black acoustic guitar strapped to his back and a pet mouse living in a big gulp cup walked up to me and politely asked to play along. We played into the night and went our separate ways. 2 days later I saw him on the front page of the Des Moines Register draped in the county orange. Turns out that the night we played together, he was on America's Most Wanted. He had escaped from prison and made his way North. He was spotted the day after we played by a passerby. Later, a friend and I wrote a song about it. Like to hear it? Here it goes. I'm not Ryne Doughty, I provide the backup vocals. The song was written by the two of us.
*edit: Thanks all for the positive feedback!

Dapatkan 3 bulan Premium seharga Rp 4990. Hanya Rp 49990/bulan setelahnya. Batalkan kapan saja. Kamu seorang pelajar? Dapatkan penawaran yang sama, tapi hanya membayar Rp 24990/bulan setelahnya. Butuh info selengkapnya kunjungi situs kami di www.spotify.com/id/. Spotify, musik untuk semua orang!
Interesting, looks like it's priced halfway between an individual Spotify Premium account (19.99 zł a month) and a Spotify Family account (29.99 zł a month.)
Looks like it's only available in Poland right now? https://www.spotify.com/pl/duo/
It's definitely possible to play 4k content and you should have no problems on a 2017 MBP. Although VLC is a popular player, it's not really built for performance.
If your comfortable with the command line then you can use brew to compile MPV (https://mpv.io) or alternatively checkout IINA which is a native GUI for MPV (https://lhc70000.github.io/iina/) both are open source and are capable of scaling native 4k content.
I've never before realized how much I want this.
Imagine a thunderstorm white noise like this playing in a restroom all day, it'd be great because you wouldn't be able to tell fart from thunder.
The Family Plan is the best - 6 Premium accounts for $15 a month.
6 accounts for $15 or $10 for a single premium account can really add up the savings if more than 1 family member has spotify.
Please donate if you use it. Easily one of my top 10 sites on the whole internet, and I have been on the net since the 90s. It's a deep and complex site, run by one guy, Dr. Pigeon. Yes his real name. Super friendly Belgian guy. One of those unique individuals who make the world a better place. He worked for Roland for almost 2 decades. A true sound designer in a world of annoying DJs. I am streaming his site right now!
It may look plain, but you can customize the heck out of it (Screenshot of my ugly setup just to give you an idea). It can pretty much do anything you would ever need it to do with music.
I am not seeing this on my Neon systems, using the deb file as opposed to a snap or flatpak.
Probably just whatever source you are using is missing the relevant icon file. Not a distro or KDE issue, methinks.
You all might want to give a try to MyNoise.net's "Neural Symphony - Tinnitus Neuromodulator", a free, online noise generator (and its various presets, clickable in the right column below the sliders.)
I'm not saying it works for everyone, and I'm not saying it works all the time, but it does help me sometimes. (I've had tinnitus for over two years.) Be careful, though, don't listen to it too loudly, and so on. And read the text.
Some other noise generators of mynoise.net might also help, they're def. worth checking out.
Also, keep an eye on /r/tinnitus and /r/tinnitusresearch
From the FAQ:
> Does foobar2000 sound better than other players? No. Most of “sound quality differences” people “hear” are placebo effect (at least with real music), as actual differences in produced sound data are below their noise floor (1 or 2 last bits in 16bit samples). foobar2000 has sound processing features such as software resampling or 24bit output on new high-end soundcards, but most of the other mainstream players are capable of doing the same by now.
I think he might be accidentally promoting a student bundle he signed up for. Spotify Premium isn't $5, Hulu and Showtime aren't included.
I pay 10 for Spotify and add an additional 3 for Hulu off of a promotion they had a couple months back. No Showtime.
You can turn that off in most video players. For example, with mpv you can press u:
> Switch between applying no style overrides to SSA/ASS subtitles, and overriding them almost completely with the normal subtitle style. See --sub-ass-override for more info.
>Apple is no longer choosing to promote the content by listing it in its own directory.
Being in a directory isn't promotion.
This is promotion: https://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/images/podcast_hero_hardware_large.jpg
They give a student discount. 50 percent off. If you still have your college email, now is the time to pull it out.

Pomodoro really works for me but everyone is different of course. I also have distraction blockers on my browser like for example the "Forest: stay focused, be present" extension on Chrome. And I use mynoise.net to pick a noise generator/ background atmosphere that helps me focus. These are tiny things but they made a difference in my productivity (plus mynoise helps alleviate my tinnitus). You got this!
There is also a student discount (at least for US residents). Register for it to get spotify for 50% off for a year. link
You may feel that you are owed a refund morally and based on your understanding of the terms & conditions you agreed to. I won't speak to the issue morally, but the terms & conditions you agreed to pretty explicitly state that Spotify can advertise to you, even as a premium user;
>7 Rights you grant us >>In consideration for the rights granted to you under the Agreements, you grant us the right... (2) to provide advertising and other information to you
Paying for premium does not exempt you from being advertised to, plain and simple.
What kind of videos, Youtube? Nowadays they are reluctant to serve you content in H264 and treat it as a fallback, the default is VP9, which cannot be hardware-decoded on your rig. On Chrome and the 'Fox you can use h264ify extension to force YT to serve H264, on mpv it probably can be done by tweaking youtube-dl format options in the command line.
Kodi.tv has been seized.
> This domain name has been seized by ICE - Homeland Security Investigations, pursuant to a seizure warrant issued by a United States District Court under the authority of 18 U.S.C 981 and 2323.
You can use Kodi. Look it up, it's free and infinitely way better than Netflix.
If you're not familiar with computers, it might be a pain to setup. But if you have basic knowledge, install Kodi and have a blast and never look back. This is what I did to cut cable and cancel Netflix once I heard that they supported Clinton and blasted Trump. Fuck that CEO piece of shit.
http://www.foobar2000.org/ Foobar is music library and player program loved by many audiophiles. It's ridiculously fast with extensions it can do pretty much anything you could think of. I was even able to get it to sync music while I was still using ios devices.
Soothing white noise on headphones, reduce light 2 hours before bedtime (only look at screens if necessary, and if necessary, install F.lux), take melatonin pills and 5-htp, cold shower then drink warm milk, hop under blankets with earplugs, cover eyes with something. Then stay awake because of racing thoughts about a fight I didn't have 3 years ago and the thought of how big the goddamn universe is.
You can use this for temporary relief, at least. It's kinda trippy to hear silence again, even if it is just for a few seconds. Try the different presets—I like the original Neural Hack, and the Neural Drops.
I moved to California from New England and no one really understands when I try to explain it. Trying to add in the squeak-crunch noise your boots make, the way the air smells before/during snow especially when it's those BIIIIG fluffy chunks floating down, the way the air hurts your face just right... makes it all the more inexplicable.
If I put this on and close my eyes, I can almost be back there... but you simply can't reproduce the 'sound' of snow falling.
Also Kodi isn't what provides this content. These are addons provided by other people. So Kodi is just as much a platform as the Android OS it runs on.
The Kodi project is really worried about how their name is being connected to piracy.
No disrespect, but I would recommend anyone interested in using Kodi on iOS install it from the stock repo, and then install the latest build directly from Kodi https://kodi.tv/download and install via Filza if jailbroken. If you're running stock, you can always side load Kodi using impactor. I used these methods with no issues but now I've sideloaded with Xcode using my dev account. Those with iX will want to use a nightly as the current public build doesn't have correct resolution support.
off topic from the scenario itself, but on the topic of tinnitus... just wanted to spread the Good News of MyNoise.net for anyone who hasn't come across it yet. it has a billion noise generators with a ton of settings. a lot of the natural soundscapes are able to be calibrated to be more of a 'white noise,' which can be more pleasant than listening to straight up white noise (though that's there, too!) and there is a generator specifically made with the hope of helping with tinnitus. of course, everyone's mileage will vary lol and it is a pretty weird sound which some people can't stand, but it could be worth a shot to read the instructions in the description and the reviews (which have additional tips and you can see what settings those people used) and see if it makes any difference.
(of course, MyNoise is also great news for anyone who needs to block out noise at work, or needs sound to concentrate, or has anxiety, or just wants to listen to cool soundscapes, too!)
Foobar2000 hands down. I've been using it for years and years. Probably the most lightweight audio playing program around with tons of customization.
Here's a screenshot of what it looks like and the CPU it takes up.
First thing as a reporter, you should start by doing some investigation on your own, after all you are the one getting paid to write the story, are you not? After you do that investigation you might have some actual questions that don't get a laugh out of the experienced people. BTW best to avoid ANY and ALL articles that proclaim Kodi doom and gloom and sky is falling hyperbole, that is all FAKE NEWS, honestly it is!
Next, nothing writes a better story than experiencing it first hand, so go install Kodi and read the sticky thread at the top for suggested addons and enjoy some TV while you join us in laughing at all those silly and ignorant bloggers, Youtubers, reporters and journalist that make silly claims like there is a 'termination of stream' and a 'death of Kodi add-ons' proving they feed on sensationalized hyperbole and hear say.
NOT SAFE TO PRINT unless you donate $2500 with proof to the XBMC Foundation so they can continue to develop their fine media player.
Here is a link https://kodi.tv/contribute/donate
I don't trust web-based audio compression tests, especially since its so easy to ABX in your own controlled environment. With foo_abx, you can select the music you like, know the exact compression settings, number of trials to make it statistically significant, fast seeking from A to B, etc.
With that said, its a good thing for Tidal to raise awareness and make people think about the sound quality of their streaming music.
I believe the problem is simply due to you trying to share one account. What Spotify wants someone to do in your situation is have two separate accounts. And if you want to get the best deal, setup Premium Family.
If you're a student, Spotify is 5$. I don't know if you are, but I'm letting you know because its a steal.
Wow, that really did a good job of getting me on the same page.
Its funny how I "didnt know I actually was more aware of the wes anderson trope than I knew I was, and its interesting to find that there is a crapton of people who are hyper-aware of it to the point that is not only an SNL skit but a /r/, huh... interesting facts of the reddit revealing community"
As a thank you - please take this link to a groovy Rain+Thunder background noise generator that I like
Or you can use iTunes Match and stream your music library on your devices and download specific songs on the go for offline listening. Also if it matches your songs to something in iTunes Store it is upgraded to 256kbps. (Yes pirated music as well)
Lastly, you get no Ads in iTunes Radio while you are subscribed to Match.
It's not exactly obscure, but please please please go look at Stephane Pigeon's websites, especially mynoise.net. MyNoise is a bunch of (ad-free) noise generators, and they are amazing for studying or sleeping. The timer function can also make a nice alarm (I love doing it with Japanese Garden).
When my ears ring I listen to this. It drowns out the ringing, and may even remove it for a few minutes (don’t put it on max volume though, it only needs to drown out the ringing)
You might also try a diy version, place your palms on your ears, your fingers pointed to the backs of your head. Then press with a finger of one hand on a finger of the other hand the other and move it from the other finger, letting it hit the back of your head. Do this for 30 seconds or so and the ringing should subside for a few minutes (I can find a better explanation if this is not suficient).
Try to enjoy music while you still can and think about all the technological advancements we will have made in 10 years. I wish you the best of luck! Kisses, mom.
I recommend RainNoise instead. It's not a loop, it's randomly generated, so it doesn't feel the same. You can also change the settings a bit, adjusting how the whole thing sounds. And you can go to Thunder and Rain, and there you can adjust the amount of thunder you get.
I stopped using Rainymood completely when I found this.
They haven't got $100M. That's some stupid rumor. Stupid rumors about Apple spread like wildfire. Some third party estimated that the deal could be worth up to $100M. Both benefit from this. Apple paid some undisclosed amount, they'll be using their music in ads, they have the album exclusively for a few weeks. And U2 gets exposure, 20 albums of them are already in the iTunes top 100.
We've actually done some tests on the algorithm in the past.
In reality, the algorithm is pretty good. The issue is how it responds to user input. Pretty much anything other than forward skipping will reset the shuffle so that you can hear the exact same songs that you just heard. Clicking onto another playlist, skipping backwards, or clicking any track on a currently playing playlist will all cause the shuffle to be reset. This should not be the case, and I suspect it's why there is such a discrepancy between Spotify's shuffle tests and user tests.
I would suggest that users write in their feedback on this issue and ask for the shuffle seed to remain persistent throughout these activities.
At the bottom: "create an account using your e-mail address". I think that should work for you, it's tiny text and isn't outlined at all, but it should be the way.
You might enjoy "MyNoise", it's a website and an app that allows you to create custom background ambient sounds, many of which are almost identical, and just as relaxing to what you posted here. It even lets you control the low-end and high-end sounds so you can cancel a certain element out if it's bugging you. Really cool program for anyone that likes to have background noise. One example:
mpv is what I have been using for years. Never had issues with codecs or rendering. It's spartan but will play anything. Available for nix, osx, and windows. I use it on all three and I have never had any issues.
Lol. Here you go buddy:

dat student discount tho. I was convinced after using it with ads for a few weeks and then found out about the student discount I got that shit immediately. delicious 320kbps.
As someone who has suffered from chronic tinnitus for years, this is basically useless. It works for twenty minutes. Do you think I'm going to spend one minute out of every twenty thumping the back of my head? I won't do it in public for sure, it'll look like I'm trying to silence the voices in my head.
Sure, it's a cool comment, and for people who have occasional tinnitus maybe it works, but mine never goes away.
I use this website often when I'm on the computer: https://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/neuromodulationTonesGenerator.php
It's much better because it provides constant relief and is kind of soothing to listen to, even when watching youtube videos or listening to music.
If they’re strange video files something like VLC media player might be able to open it, it’s open source so it’s able to open most video files.
Here’s a link to it: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
On a related note, VLC is something of a swiss army knife of media. Those who don't yet make it available to users through their internal app-stores should consider doing that. After updating to VLC 3.0.7, of course!
Due to the volume of posts before I caught this, I'm going to allow this topic to stay. However, we have already had many posts regarding this. Spotify gradually rolls out its updates so many users have had the new color for a while.
The color is part of their new branding and is unlikely to change. However, you can leave your feedback directly to Spotify via email or twitter.
That will be the day I move to Jellyfin. It's a little rough around the edges, but Plex is making it more and more clear that we're the product, not the customer. When I can't even customize how and what content I serve, I'm done with Plex.
Just checked. It's currently #57 on its chart of top grossing free games behind such epic behemoths as "Slots: Heart of Vegas" and "Caesars Slots." (Contest of champions is #22, Future Fight is #39)
On the Apple side, it's about the same, #54. https://www.apple.com/itunes/charts/top-grossing-apps/
Great work, FN!
Right, but Apple Lossless does use the m4a container and the component I was referring to supports ALAC. Squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares, I guess.
Ummmmm...... Link
Does this tool breach this clause, from Spotify's T's & C's?:
> Spotify respects intellectual property rights and expects you to do the same. This means, for example, that the following is not permitted...
>...(g) artificially increasing play count or otherwise manipulating the Services by using a script or other automated process;
From the terms: > If you have have subscribed to the Premium or Unlimited service or have taken a 30-day free trial offer or 60-day free trial offer previously, you are ineligible for this 3-for-1 Trial Offer. Holy fuck have I ever had it with right wing free speech martyrs. Spotify already editorialises their content. Which they have every right to do.
And Alex Jones has his first amendment rights to fuck right off and publish his lies on his own platform.
His lying does nothing to serve democracy, civil, cultural or social life. He's a vulture who feeds off he misery and paranoia of others and no moral organisation would help him do what he does.
Helpful info: Spotify Premium is only $5 a month instead of $10 if you're a student: link
Here is the link. I'm on mobile so I can't do any fancy hyperlinking so sorry for the gigantic link.
This sounds like it has the teensiest bit of wind-like background sound, which my rumble doesn't have, but otherwise it's pretty accurate. I was actually thinking about trying to recreate the sound using myNoise.net, but you beat me to it.
Yeah, meds. Meds are good for that.
Also, try different background noise machines. Mynoise.net has a whole bunch of free ones that are completely customizable. I use “binaural harmonics” with headphones and set it to “animate” if i need to read some textbook chapter and just REALLY don’t need fuckin’ Avril Lavigne to be there too. I think they’ve got an app as well.
It’s a variable neutral sound, and because it’s binaural it kinda feels like it phases through my skull and vibrates the music out of my fuckin brain. “Animate” makes the sliders change every so often, so it’s constantly changing and you can’t tune it out. It doesn’t leave room for music to get back in, but makes reading really easy.
How do you not have VLC? You need this program in your life.
It's the play anything do anything video player. So many settings and options you can configure.
You can view and record from a webcam, convert videos, stream files to and from with it and edit MP3 tags. along with other great stuff.
All that for the low cast of 0$ because it's free and open source.
Apparently this is different per country. I was viewing this from United States. You can check here:
Check out myNoise. There is an app and a website that a single audio guy put together. You can customize the mix of the sounds and there are hundreds of different ones on his website. Can’t recommend it enough.
Radioactive has never been placed so appropriately imo. The shows composer is Evan Frankfort. He has a band named the "Spiritual Machines" who did the song we have all been obsessed with called 'Couldn't Stop Caring.'
Just in case you want to listen to some of her "hits" to make your ears bleed a little more. And her quote: "Here is a throwback- some music I recorded a few years ago before I became GEM. I will also be posting music from "Shattered Mirror"- my demo that is getting me where I'm going now. Working on brand new material and making deals and about to explode. No more info. Just that. U will just have to wait and see." Demo Reel

My laptop has an i5 processor, 8GB RAM and some kind of Intel VGA. I use my 40" TV as a monitor almost 100% of the time. I also have a proper mouse and keyboard like you would expect from the old school guy that I am.
I use MX Linux with /r/i3wm. The programs I use the most are:
I use this computer for everything that I do, like for example:
I also use a lot of reddit, of course. I don't use my computer for videogames and my PS4 is collecting dust.
Windows makes me impatient, but I would certainly dual-boot if I had the need. Luckily, that is not the case right now.
I have about 20 years of experience with Linux, but I'm not an IT person. I just like Linux a lot.

Edit: Wow! Thanks for the gold!
I would personally advise against using their "official" Linux client. It's developed by the Spotify devs in their free time. It's not really supported. With that client, you're effectively a second class citizen. I personally use Spotify in the browser and it's a pretty decent experience for me.
From their Linux download page:
> Spotify for Linux is a labor of love from our engineers that wanted to listen to Spotify on their Linux development machines. They work on it in their spare time and it is currently not a platform that we actively support.
~~I don’t know if it’s still available~~ available until 12/31/18, if you have or open a family premium account with Spotify you’d get a google mini free.

DRM also stops paying customers from experiencing their media in a way most preferable to them.
Suppose I want to watch something on Netflix. Now, I much prefer MPV to all other video players out there. I like its keybindings, its user-interface, and its numerous options for things such as color correction and high-quality upscaling. However, I cannot watch anything on Netflix via MPV because of DRM. The DRM prevents me from enjoying media that I pay for in a manner most enjoyable to me. In fact, in the United States, I am legally barred from watching any content from Netflix in MPV because it would require the unlawful circumvention of Netflix's DRM.
Suppose I am going on a trip. I know that on this trip, I will not have internet access for long periods of time. So, I would like to download in advance several episodes of various shows I watch so that I can watch them while I am away. However, DRM once again prevents me from doing so.
Suppose a DRM'ed work becomes public domain. Even though the copyright has expired, I would be unable to perform lawful actions such as redistributing the work. Copyrights expire; DRM does not.
Even if you buy into the narrative that DRM stops piracy, it still ultimately harms the paying customer. I would dispute the claim that DRM does indeed stop piracy, however. Nearly all media that has DRM is also available on sites like ThePirateBay. And when downloading from there, the product you get is superior.
Pirates do not have to deal with any of this. They can experience their media without any restriction whatsoever. They could play anything they downloaded in MPV. They could play it offline. They are getting a better product by not paying.
With one account, Spotify usually syncs whatever song is playing across all logged in devices. So if you’re listening to Song A in your car and your friend logs in and starts playing Song B, the Spotify in your car will switch to Song B as well.
Look into Spotify Duo instead: https://www.spotify.com/us/duo/ It’s Spotify Premium, and you can invite one another person to use your premium plan, but they’ll use their own Spotify credentials to log in yet.
