Just like I'm sad when I have to install bonjour and quicktime.
Haha, who am I kidding I have an android phone. I didn't have to install anything besides drivers and I use quicktime alternative
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/quicktime_alternative.htm
this has existed for quite a while now, it acts like a codec to quicktime and makes it work just like any other codec in windows. and any normal player works with mov files after installing.
not sure if it's exactly legal.
Quicktime Alternative is available here. Thanks to this, I haven't had to install the bloated quicktime player in ages. Has always worked well with Vegas for me. I have had problems with iPhone footage in the past. By transcode, I just mean to convert it before bringing it into Vegas. You could do that with avidemux or handbrake.
Can it run in DOS ?
If yes, then you should definitely try DosBox (or D-Fend if you don't want the hassle of the command-line) it can run up pretty much run any old game that I tried throwing at it.
You can try installing Quicktime alternative.
I use QuickTime Alternative now and it seems to work.
Yeah, I should have made that more clear, always start with the newest version first and don't get your drivers from Windows Update.
In that case, try installing Quicktime Alternative. Sounds to me like Apple's MPEG2 files you have are encrypted/locked in some way, rather than open like the files that Premiere and pretty much any other NLE/player handle.
I don't mind having Quicktime Alternative on my system. (Pretty much just a codec iirc)
Chrome puts up a bit of a fuss but if you click "always run on this site" it should get it to play fine.
If you need to play a .mov in Windows for some stupid fucking reason (like someone can't be bothered to encode a goddamn avi) then use Quicktime Alternative
I find QuickTime annoying as a media player, but it is usually required for playing Quicktime files like *.mov. I have had good luck replacing it with this or with QT lite.
