Just to piggyback on what everyone else is saying, I also use NordVPN but this is their best deal going on right now, no more free trials unfortunately. But when using it, the service works exactly how you'd expect and I haven't faced any issues or complications. Netflix works fine with it, but I'd imagine it probably works just as well on nearly any other mainstream VPN service.
VPNs are worth it 1000 times over. I use NordVPN which is a great provider and it costs me a whopping $2.80/month. VPNs are great for privacy...especially when I travel and am forced to use public wifi.
I also think that in the current copyright climate and the fact that we are likely in for a conservative federal government with the kinds of press Trudeau is getting that a VPN is very important.
WTF. I pay more for a Family account but I'm not eligible?
"Subscriptions to Spotify Premium for Students or Spotify Premium for Family are not eligible for this Supplemental Offer."
https://www.spotify.com/ca-en/legal/premium-supplemental-offer-terms/
I've had luck with NordVPN as they have thousands of servers worldwide and it's tricky for DAZN to update their IP ban lists. Last year I was able to watch the McGregor vs. Mayweather fight through DAZN by going through a German VPN connection, and to the Japanese VPN to watch some WWE wrestling. I haven't used DAZN since the NFL season ended though so I don't know if they've got more sophisticated on this or not.
I been using NordVPN for years now. Some servers work fine with American content but Netflix has been more forceful in recent years blocking people from using vpns to change countries. It may take some trial and error finding a server that works. ExpressVPN I believe has some servers that work with American Netflix as well last time I checked.
A bit off topic but if you're tech savvy at all you might be better of getting a android box. You can watch just about anything with the things for free.
Just picked it up from Best Buy. So far works great but lots of set up logging into my accounts for each app. Even downloaded the NordVPN app and it's working with Netflix for different regions content.
You have to use a VPN to make it look to Crave that your device is still in Canada

We used Crave while on vacation in europe to watch the last episode of GoT. We used NordVPN to VPN into canada and then crave worked just fine.
I know a few people that have Hulu Live in Canada. All are using DNS redirect services, such as Getflix or Unlocator.
I have also used Hulu Live in Toronto with Getflix and had no problems with it.
CBC content including live news is available from their site. Global News live is https://globalnews.ca/live/toronto/.
Get a Chromecast and casting app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.instantbits.cast.webvideo
It's live on StackTV/Amazon Prime. You can browse the channel guide and it's listed on the Global channel, "Saturday Night Live-Kristen Wiig; Dua Lipa, 11:29pm - 1:02am".
Yup had that problem. First get this app. Tells you where the antennas are located for each station. Then use 2 attennas. Use a cable splitter. Point one in the direction of most of the tv stations. They are approximately south east of you. The remaining are north west. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ar.com.lichtmaier.antenas
Antenna quality counts. Make sure it's powered.
End of problems for me. Good luck
ExpressVPN works great for me. Netflix is aware of and will block some of the addresses used, especially the common default locations, so try a few to find one of the good ones. There are lots to choose from, and not just in the US. UK Netflix is worth checking out.
Yes, I definitely still come out ahead. Here are some numbers I came up with from a couple years ago, when I decided to cut the cord initially:
Cable
Cable: $78.99/mo
Yearly total: $947.88
Streaming
Netflix: $7.99/mo
Usenet (frugalusenet): $10.00/mo
Unblock-Us: $4.99/mo
NFL GamePass: $250/season
NHL GameCenter: $160/season
: $109/season
Yearly Total: $794.76
A savings of about $150 per year, however, that's if I pay full price for all of the sports services, which I don't. What I actually do is wait until late August for MLB, when they drop the price to $10 for the rest of the year, and until a few weeks before the NFL playoffs, when they drop the price to around $60 (Sometimes I'll pay $15 for a week's access to watch a couple games). And, since Rogers took over the rights to NHL GameCenter, it's free with my "Share Anything" plan, which I had already. So my savings over cable are more like $600.
And, I get better access than I ever did before. I don't miss the Jets when they're out of town and blacked out. I don't miss my the Colts (when I was paying for the full season), just because CTV has decided I'd rather watch a Vikings game. Plus the streaming services give me access to archived and condensed games, which often fit my schedule better.
If only TSN would loosen it's grip on the CFL. It's the only thing I follow that's eluded me so far. This season I've used my father's cable login to watch TSN online, but I'd prefer that they offered me something directly.
Just to slightly disagree with you about US Netflix - in the last month I’ve binged Parks and Recreation, The People vs OJ Simpson, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, there are also older shows like Frasier, Cheers, The West Wing and movies like Gran Torino, Philadelphia none of which are available on CDN Netflix.
I use a ExpressVPN to give myself the option to switch regions and get access to more titles.
I'd say the Nvidia Shield TV is probably your best bet for Android TV (Xiaomi MiBox is the Nvidia is too expensive). I use NordVPN and haven't had any issues. Not sure if Nord works with netflix though.
Yeah, VPN seems still the go-to path. ExpressVPN seems to have worked alright. Now switched onto Surfshark, since it is quite cheap (There are few coupons on reddit) compared to others. No macOS app tho. However, the prices are great and Hulu never malfunctioned.
Can I hijack this post to ask a DNS question? I use Unlocator at the moment. It is setup at the router level so that all our devices just work.
I can have Hulu working with it, but Disney+ detects it and locks me out (I assume it thinks I want the US Disney+, but I'm happy with CAD). I can disable the DNS setting at the router and use Disney+, but then I lose Hulu of course.
My issue is that they don't seem to be able to build a bypass for Disney+ (they already have one for Netflix). So I want to drop them eventually, but I am having a hard time finding a service that will offer what I need: A bypass for Netflix, a bypass for Disney+, and Hulu working with the DNS service.
Any suggestions/others with this exact problem/solution? PMs are welcome!
I wasn't entirely sure what was NordVPN Smartplay but I see now it's a default feature. Anyway I use Nord and it's quite good, works without any issues and is easy to use. Works on a lot of devices too. I'm not sure how it compares to other services but I'm happy enough to stay loyal to them
I've used a Cisco e2500 router connecting it over PTPP/L2TP through NordVPN's servers. It was hit or miss since these protocols are dying slowing. Previously it worked 100% of the time. Recently I purchased a Linksys router and threw WRT custom firmware trying to get an OpenVPN client on it, it worked but not very well. Best bet would be to look into dedicated VPN routers.

You could either have the entire network until VPN or if your modem/router/gateway has numerous LAN ports, you could have 1 network for non-VPN and 1 network dedicated to VPN using the dedicated VPN router. So it would be:

Modem -> Your Router
-----------------------> Non-VPN traffic
----------------------------------> Your cell phone (For example)
-----------------------> Dedicated VPN traffic
----------------------------------> Your laptop watching US Hulu

Edit: Formatting didn't come across properly
> So is Unblock-US also for other regions?
yep, Unblock-Us supports a lot of services from all over the world.
On you can watch shows without a login for up to 7 days after they're broadcast, same with
Try https://www.justwatch.com/ca
There are a number of other web sites that offer search across multiple streaming services (e.g., http://www.moreflicks.com/), but unfortunately no others support Shomi and Crave yet as far as I know.
The following setup works:
-ExpressVPN Router connected to an American VPN
-FuboTV 7-day trial (must have an American address on your credit card to sign up)
-Chromecast Ultra
-HolaFakeGPS Android app
-FuboTV Android app
Make sure to select Fox4K in the FuboTV app before casting. The stream pulls peaks of 70 Mbps and the average is about 15 or 18 Mbps (like Netflix and Amazon Prime) so ExpressVPN doesn't have a problem streaming at that rate.
I have it working on my Apple TV in 4K. It pulls about 50Mbps. Picture is good when they cut to their "good" cameras. I basically connected my computer to my VPN, then shared that connection with my Apple TV. I'll try to outline below.

Here's what's working for me:
Devices used: 1 Mac and 1 AppleTV
Good luck cord cutters! Hopefully you can find a speed VPN. VyprVPN worked for me as I was only getting about 30-40Mbps from PIA.

2nd option is OTA antenna. It's the least compressed feed on CTV. Check out TVfools.
I have Hulu in Canada and it's great! It's a bit of a chore. I use Getflix VPN, but I suspect NordVPN would work just as well. I put that on my router so my tv thinks we're in the US.
To pay for it I use a service called That's free to sign up, they only charge you if you send a package there. But it gives you a valid US address
I added that address to my Mastercard and that used to be all I had to do with Hulu. Just sign up, enter that as my address and it billed my CC monthly
That's stopped working, it has to be a USD card now. So I have to go through the extra step of signing up at with my Mastercard. Then I buy a Hulu gift card for face value. $50 is $50. They email me that to me in an hour, and I enter that as my payment on Hulu. I just do it twice/year so it's not that much work
It sounds kind of awful when I read all that out but it's quite easy really. Hulu is by far my favorite service. I can't wait till they come to Canada properly, but for now this is fine. Hope that helps
Great idea...! I mounted an antenna onto a speaker pole like this and its great for being able to position and move the antenna for the best reception.
I use an edited version of Smarters IPTV Pro (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nst.iptvsmarterstvbox)
if you want it DM me and I will give you the filelinked code for it and a clean version of Cyberflix
Been using "unlocator" DNS trickery for years - which was working with Hulu - even "Live TV" up until 2-days ago.
Now all of my Roku's are complaining:
"Your Home network must be a residential, non-mobile internet connection "
If I try on a computer, connect via ExpressVPN to a NYC connection, then spoof my browser location (set lat/long in sensors) to my Hulu "home" postal code, I can access it in the browser.
Sigh... Well, TekSavvy is offering TV now... but no Roku app...
Hey! As a general tip, I can recommend to prioritize paid VPNs over free ones, especially for streaming.
TorGuard, VyprVPN, and VPNArea are good choices. You can see other alternatives, and a ranking, here.
I use Smart DNS proxy’s DNS service and it works great for pretty much all the US streaming services I subscribe to. I use StrongVPN for VPN but really only use it for anything the DNS doesn’t work for which isn’t much.
Your best to get a good paid VPN (stay away from free VPNs). Now you can access US and UK channels and programs. YouTube is the manual for this. If you don't have a streaming box get a Nvidia Shield TV or a FireStick 4k (not the regular FireStick even if you have a 720p or 1080p tv). There are plenty of legal options if you use a VPN. I use ExpressVPN but NordVPN is good also. IPVanish is based in the US so I wouldn't use it, just so no one can get the logs.
A VPN works wonders you can get many different apps working with a good VPN. Such as Pluto TV, etc. I use ExpressVPN, had it for a few years now, it really opens your options all round. A VPN is really worth the money if used correctly. Also YouTube is the manual for streaming, it has many ideas. Hope this helps.
Haven't used NordVPN but I choose different US cities with ExpressVPN. Can you not do this? Different cities around the globe let you use different apps, it's mainly trial and error, till you get use to it. I get British and US Netflix with ExpressVPN. Just try different world cities and apps to see what works.
I just set ExpressVPN to say New York, then open Pluto TV and there are all the US channels. Some sights I do through Firefox browser which I sideloaded. The learning curve is a couple of months till you get use to it.
I know of smartdnsproxy, Unlocator and Getflix. best deals I have seen with smartdnsproxy is $24.90 for 2 years, or $35 for lifetime subscription. Any advice? does lifetime subscription mean pay once and that's it for life? or pay $35 every year guaranteed for life? How long has Getflix been around, or will they be gone in a year or something?
NordVPN. I've been using them for years and they're great. Even offer special servers for streaming video that assure higher bandwidth, etc.
You can sign up for a 3 day trial with them, and most of the time if you contact their support before buying and ask nicely if they have any current promo codes they'll give you one.
I got my last year for like $40 with a promo code they gave me (BUT, I am a long time subscriber so you might not get such a great deal).
EDIT: Just saw someone else mentioned Nord in another comment. My experience is like theirs, it's plenty fast. If it's not for you, send them a support request and see what they have to say.
I used GetFlix because if their very detailed website. I set it up to get CBS All Access, and was surprised when it worked with Netflix.
If you end up getting it, use a VPN address that, says "YES" under the SmartDNS section
I have concerns that the legal situation in the US might change on a whim, making the service not as flexible and the data less secure. Just a feeling I have; I don't trust that what's been true in US law will necessarily continue to be so.
NordVPN is my second choice because it's got a good, well regarded set-up and is based in Panama.
Paypal has just cut off payments to UnoTelly, accusing them of being a circumvention tool. (see )
Why they chose UnoTelly and whether they plan to target any other DNS or VPN services has not been reported yet. Also not clear is how Paypal decided that DNS unblocking is a circumvention tool when there doesn't seem to be any legal opinion supporting that.
Bitcoin is looking a bit more attractive today if services like Paypal are going to make up their own laws.
I've been using Unblock-Us for the last couple of years without an issue. It worked well with pretty much anything I tried. It's super easy to set up, but it does cost more than Adfreetime (I haven't tried Adfreetime, so I can't comment on it).
Some of this is doable, some of it isn't. You'll definitely need to set up some kind of Smart DNS server, like UnoTelly, Adfreetime, PIA, etc. It's pretty simple, you just input some numbers through your IP.
HBO: Using your new DNS, you can either get it through HBO Now on Roku or AppleTV, which doesn't have a live feed (I think) or through SlingTV, which does. It also comes with live AMC.
AMC: Stated above, get it from SlingTV for $25 CDN. The on demand isn't great but they usually have the last two to four episodes.
TMN: Only way to get this is with a cable login and even then its only through mobile/tablet apps.
Showtime/Starz: Showtime can be gotten through Roku and it comes with the live channel, as well as on demand (you could also get it with Hulu). Starz has a Roku app but I believe it requires a login.
Network programming: no chance of getting it live without an antenna, your best bet is Hulu but that would only get you American networks (minus CBS which has its own streaming service). PBS also has a great Roku channel.
NHL/NFL/PGA: Hockeystreams would have been good but they've closed up registration for the time being. In this case, you can still use Game Center as the blackouts will be avoided with the smart DNS. NFL Game Pass works as well with a DNS as far as I know. PGA golf is the least likely. Golf Channel is available on Roku through NBC Sports Live Extra channel but it needs a login. I think they might have a stand alone streaming service but I don't think there are any PlayStation, Roku or AppleTV apps.
Whatever you can't get, you can probably fill in with a season pass or just waiting till it hits Netflix/Shomi/Hulu/Crave.
Only nice thing about UnBlock-US is just change the DNS servers on the devices you want. So I only change the DNS servers on my Roku and WDTV and use my ISPs for the best.
Looks like they support OpenVPN, so I could have my WDTV and Roku route via a RaspberryPi running OpenVPN then the traffic would flow via VPN. Going to test this weekend and see how it works out.
you are in toronto eh? Whats the brand name of the router? Are you in a contract? Just wondering bc they suck lol.
Anyhow, let me know what the model is and Ill let you know. you may have to buy a new router. Look up a service called Private Internet Access and the site can explain a lot to you.
Hulu Plus can either be bought in monthly installments off your credit card, or you can buy "gift codes" good for 1,3,6,9, and 12 months. You can get them cheap on ebay.
Thanks for such a thorough response! I have a spare laptop I could use for this, but at first, I wanted an easier workaround. Thankfully, NordVPN released an app for Chromecast and it has been working great so far.
I'm not sure what would be causing this.
Are you using a VPN / location is Canada? Are you logged in with a Canadian google account? Have you tried using your phone or tablet (if you have an android and are logged in using the same account) to remote install it?
Private Internet Access (PIA) is the one I prefer. They jumped on Wireguard pretty early and unlike so many other VPN providers they've been taken to court and could not provide records because they simply don't keep any. I won't use any VPN that hasn't been subjected to trial by fire in this manner. They aren't perfect, but overall I'm very happy with them and their speeds. Their software used to be a bit buggy, but over the years with updates I've found it to work very well on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. Linux has been hit and miss but improving. Just make sure to use their streaming optimized locations to bypass geo-blocks on services like Netflix & Hulu.
I'd recommend using PureVPN. It's fast and best for buffer-free streaming. PureVPN has also recently launched its new Android TV and Amazon Fire TV apps that you can download from the store and start your 7 day free trial.
I've subscribed in the past to Peacock.
I've used on my PC and NordVPN connected to USA, i've created a free Peacock Account, then i've installed the Peacock app on my Nvidia Shield TV (Android TV based) & using NordVPN on the Shield connect to USA server. Launch Peacock App on the Shield... login using "free" account that i've created on my PC.
To get the premium access, make sure you have a valid payment method in your Google Pay (google play) account (me using Canadian Paypal). If everything is setup correctly you should be able to subscribe via the TV app (in the account setting, very easy).
It's a bit complicated but once it setup everything is smooth, paypal is charged every month. This method work as well for ESPN+.
ExpressVPN is one of the best vpn’s out there i used it for a Long time its simple and easy, and its safe. I Would highly recommend it. I have had No problems with it at all. Its super fast and Secure. You Can use it for Netflix or Gaming. Its your choice.

I was really hoping that you had bought a generic android box but this is the definition of scam. I don't suppose you can still return it. Too bad.
For similar cost, no internet use, I recommend getting this box on amazon. Speaking from my own experience as I've owned a few in the past. It works fine out of the box, has USB ports, a microSD slot and you can install VLC or Nova Player to play from your drives without issues. Bonus, you can install a custom rom which enables a true androidtv UI and features. I've done it and will be happy to help you with installing androidtv rom and apps if you need.
If you ever want to use streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+,... in the future, consider getting a firestick or CwGTV and a cheap usb hub/dongle for external drives. If you live near the border, consider a quick trip to a US Walmart and get the ONN box instead.
>to play mp4/avi videos
For this sole purpose, I would use the usb port on your home router and set it up as a network drive, use VLC or similar apps for playback. You can also get a cheap ($30ish) access point and use its usb port if your router doesn't have usb ports. If you need mobility, it's awesome.
>generic devices from Amazon but it sucks
Alternatively, let me know the name or the link of your device here. Maybe your device has an android tv rom floating around the internet already (most of them do). Widevine would still be level 3 but you'll have a proper android tv experience. Did that when I first bought this and it was mind-blowing
I have been using NordVPN and I have found this has been quite handy at accessing International Netflix and other services . That noted , Ive noticed that Netflix isnt a fan of people quickly switching regions . I find that you need to wait like 10 - 20 mins between region switch or Netflix will give errors or not work . But that may be just me .
I’ve been playing around w USA streaming apps for many yrs now - you name it I’ve had it (Hulu, YouTube TV, FuboTV, etc). Paying for the service hasn’t been the problem but rather streaming apps becoming more restrictive w VPN / DNS services. Currently I have NordVPN but can’t use it w AppleTV (unless going thru router which is a PIA). And if by chance it does work I find most of the network channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) don’t work due to being geoblocked.
Would welcome any suggestions but I just find it’s too problematic to depend on.
Disney plus is not open in Indonesia, It is available by the name of Hotstar which is another service and won't accept your Disney + ID/Pass.
If you want to access Disney plus outside Canada, use ExpressVPN or NordVPN, they both have an Indonasioan server.
If you want to access WWE Network/ latest PPV outside Canada, use Peacock TV which will cost you $5/month. but you will need a VPN because Peacock is blocked in Canada.
There are no payment issues with Peacock like Hulu and HBO Max
Just to clarify, the link is actually justwatch.com/ca.
This service is long over due with all the streaming services now available in various locations. Amazing website.
Going to ask a newbie question here because I'm so tired of paying Bell $200+ a month JUST for their "Best" tv package. And the channels that we DO watch aren't available in their 'lite' packages so going to be leaving that relationship hardcore.
I have NordVPN but my current FibreStream router isn't compatible so I can't add it. However, if I do change routers and buy one that is compatible, can you provide any guidance on how to set it up? And to get Sling, do you need a US billing address?
I don’t know if Fubo switches content based on your current region (like Netflix) or is locked based on your registration (like Roku) but if it’s the former a service like dns4me might work.
They also have a 7-day free trial and Fubo is on their list of services. https://i.imgur.com/CeuUFvW.jpg
I use dns4me.net to allow all the devices in my home to use US services such as Hulu and the US Networks. Then I login to the Apple TV with a US iTunes account and configure my TV Provider to be DirecTV (I have a family member's account). This allows me to download all the apps (HGTV, NBC, ABC, etc.) that work with DirecTV. When I first launch them it uses single sign-on to authenticate. After that I just use the Apple TV app to search for and watch the shows I want. It actually works quite well by consolidating everything together and having an "Up Next" feature. Still launches the individual apps in the background but it's nice to be able to just use one app. Hulu is also integrated.
I'd be interested in learning more about the Channels Everywhere service as the only thing really missing from the above is a PVR features. Some of the shows aren't available on-demand and I hardly ever watch live TV.
I just started using https://dns4me.net/ a few weeks ago (signed up yesterday after my trial expired). I like it quite a lot. I haven't noticed any slowdowns vs unblock-us, it supports more services, and it has WAY more options. (You can change the target region for basically every service, not just Netflix).
It also provides the ability to set up your own DNS redirect - you can enable logging to try and figure out what hostnames are in use for the service you want to enable, and manually assign them to a specific region. It's not the most user-friendly, but it's very powerful.
CBS and CBS News are both listed as supported, though Pluto TV is not, so you'd have to try and use the custom DNS.
Though I suppose I should add that I have no experience with the ATV4, but it works just fine with my Chromecast, Roku3 and ATV3.
The best option is BCE Premium TV. You can watch all the sports events like English Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, UEFA Champions League, ... legally online. Over 100 Premium Sports HD Channels ( Sky Sports, BT Sport, beIN Sports, Fox Sports, NBCSN, TSN, ESPN, Euro Sports, NFL Network, WWE, ... ) only $20/month or $85/year.
just search "BCE Premium TV" on Google you will find it easily.
Almost all the Android boxes don't support Netflix in HD, and since this user needed that, I suggested him getting the official box from Google. https://www.android.com/tv/xiaomi-mi-box/ Or the old Google Nexus TV boxes. Or expensive Nvidia shield tv.
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/
I would suggest the Xiaomi Mi Box or the NVIDIA Shield TV as opposed to one of the cheaper shitty boxes. These two will continue to get support moving forward while the no name boxes I wouldn't expect anything from.
These are the only two legit boxes for android tv https://www.android.com/tv/ and from everything I've read they are worth the premium. You can still sideload apps, they are just much more robust than the cheap crap you can find on amazon or at local markets imho
It doesn't look like it's available in Canada. https://www.roku.com/en-ca/products/players
Also does it have a slot to plug in a USB stick? Edit: It does. I was looking at some outdated review sites I guess
If you're looking to go to legal route, Sling has "Best of Spanish TV" available as a standalone package for $10/mo USD. You'll need to turn on PIA to a US server when using Sling.
If you use the Just Watch website (Canadian website URL: https://www.justwatch.com/ca ), you can find all sources to rent/stream or buy most popular digital media (Movies / TV Shows).

The website lists 5 spots to watch:
-CraveTV
-Google Play
-Apple ITunes
-Playstation Store
-Microsoft Store

unogs might be of a little use for netflix. I don't think it has a french Canadian language option.
you can search justwatch canada to see if there's a site that has shows that you want. Hoopla may have some since it's a library service?
If you really have to have the regular Global TV network, you can get it thru Amazon Prime Stack TV or RiverTV.ca (you'd get a few more cable-like channels with these as well). You'd only be out CTV, then -- it might make setting up an antenna just to get CTV worthwhile?? I totally agree both Global and CTV should offer open live local channel streams, as national broadcasters, the way Citytv and the CBC do.
First noticed credit card bill. Took me awhile to find the subscription under primevideo.com settings. Couldn't find anything on the Firestick app about subscriptions nor on the Amazon website.

A post on the 2nd page states something about getting 3 months free for car, then rinse and repeat. Haven't tried it yet but I'm away from my car for this week. When I'm back, I might have to give it a go and see if it's true. Let me know if you try it before and if it works!
I have noticed when using browserleaks https://browserleaks.com/ip It identifies the network in the Toronto area as
ISP -> ViaNetTV Inc
City-> Sault Ste. Marie

Why ViaNetTV inc?
You can use it with pretty much any SIP client on your smartphone, PC or tablet. If you have an Android phone, the Play store has tons of SIP clients. I'm sure it's the same with Apple's App store.
I've used the free version of this one with voip.ms for years.
Anyone have any idea or solutions they can share on how to be able to receive all of the NHL games this season. Living here in Burlington, ON and refuse to pay for the NHL package provided by Bell, Rogers or Cogeco!!! I currently use NordVPN and running Apple devices throughout the house.
would appreciate everyone's thoughts???
As noted by other users, HBO max needs VPN and also confirmed that the IPs sometimes get caught and you need to cycle through available ones offered by the VPN service that works. To resolve this I subscribe to 2 VPN services, one as backup. So far that has lead to no downtime at the cost of increased fees paid to support my tv entertainment lol.
Also DNS works but also had issues where it felt like the DNS server was blocked. Though I am not a internet expert, only reporting there was a short time that my devices running DNS could not load my geoblocked apps.
I use ExpressVPN and CyberGhost. I have tried Nord and SurfShark but find them a bit slow … could have been just the servers I picked. ExpressVPN and CyberGhost offer DNS in their VPN packages. I needed DNS to unblock my AppleTV since it does not support vpn.
I am looking for the same option to get full access to AMC. And I found that you can download the AMC app on your Android or iOS device and can watch some movies and TV shows on it but you can't get the access to complete AMC TV shows library and AMC live in Canada.
In the US, if you are looking to watch AMC without a cable TV package, you can opt for Sling TV Blue or Orange, YouTube TV, Fubo TV and AT&T TV Now.
Now the problem you can't access any of these American TV streaming services in Canada. But I found these guides on Google how you can access YouTube TV, and Sling TV in Canada with the help of a VPN and even how to get their subscription there.
I used ExpressVPN and get Sling TV Blue subscription via US Virtual Prepaid Card and now I have full access to AMC in Canada. I think this is the only way to access AMC in Canada.
I found the issue, it was the 5G that was added in my neighborhood last week,
I bought the 5G filter CM-3201 to put before my amplifier
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01JGSC5AO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thats weird I already had an LTE filter in my amplifier (CM-7778HD) model 2018 but it was 689 mhz only (Which is not 5G) a 5G filter need to block 609 mhz and further...
The new model CM-7778HD block 609 mhz and further...
You probably have a 5G tower next to your house if you have issue with channel 11 and 12.
VHF-11 - TVA CFTM-DT Montréal
VHF-12 - CTV CFCF-DT Montréal
Not sure why only those two channels had issue since they are not in the same 5G frequency range, maybe it has something to do with the amplifier so the filter fixed all my issues
I would say given that google ChromeCast with GoogleTV is the same price as the fire stick; I would go with the chrome cast. It has all the streaming apps, supports VPN as an app installed, and now has Apple TV+ which was only on the Amazon store before.
Since it’s official Android, you might have more ease of finding apps than the Amazon App Store, reducing your need to side load.
Compared to shield which is on the predecessor of GoogleTV, the shield is much more expensive. Because I use it for gaming on GFN, I think it’s worth it but I’m now finding the I’m growing fonder of the ChromeCast. If you are only streaming from services and less from plex and network media hubs, the ChromeCast might be the more economical solution.
My biggest disappointment was not being able to use ExpressVPN with AppleTV 4th gen to gain access to HBOMax, Paramount+, Hulu and Peacock.
An antenna + Amazon Firestick + Amazon Recast if you can find them in stock. All your streaming services plus OTA in 1 device.
Otherwise Apple TV/Chromecast/Firestick + antenna plus OTA DVR https://www.amazon.ca/Mediasonic-HOMEWORX-HW130STB-Converter-Recording/dp/B01EW098XS/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=recast+dvr+amazon&qid=1613331736&sprefix=recast&sr=8-2
Issues usually occur at the start of the season but are then quickly resolved. If you want a cheaper subscription you can look at PIA or CyberGhost they work too. Check this article:
Had League Pass for years (international one because of living abroad), and when I moved back to Canada, I continued to use it (with a VPN- ExpressVPN).
LP recently went on a tear and geoblocked/banned almost all VPN companies and the majority of their servers. Your current access to LP via VPN is rare from what I'm hearing from my friends (whom are using different VPNs with LP).
I had heard a lot about hehestreams, and I just bit the bullet.
So far no complaints, solid quality, same feeds (home/away/national). If I do run into issues, I have no doubt the customer service will be good- considering there's nothing but rave reviews about the customer service on reddit/twitter.
Came out to $90USD/$115CAD. You don't even technically need a VPN to watch with hehestreams.
In the past I’ve been able to subscribe from Canada but use my VPN to login from the US and get around the blackout restrictions.
Not the case anymore. I use ExpressVPN.
I might not renew league pass and look for alternate options.
Had success with NordVPN and signed up a South African LP instead of an Indian one just in case if all fails, all Geoblocked again and couldn't sign into Indian Account to cancel bla bla. Nevertheless I used Chrome incognito. First connect to South Africa server. Then clear delete all cookies history and stuff then incognito mode. On Google search for NBA League Pass and normally is the first linkm click on it and make sure you're seeing the prices for the right country. In my case R739 which is approx £35. Compared to the Indian LP it is more expensive by £20 but for the safety and messing around with geoblocking I think it's well worth the extra! Good luck guys.
All 4 VPNs in this list are currently working:
Note: NordVPN and ExpressVPN had issues with LP but that's usually how it goes at the start of every season. Nevertheless they do work now.
You can use a smart DNS on PS4. I am doing t. You just change the DNS in the PS4 settings. You can also just change the DNS in your router and then every device will work. I use Smart DNS Proxy and have never had a problem. It's not like your projector is supplying your devices it's wifi signal, right?
Yes, I was able to buy videos off the Amazon website in Canada.
But I can only play them on a desktop browser.
I can't play them on a mobile browser or the prime video app.
News hub FREE APP FOR LIVE CHANNELS ANDROID TV ONLY the app will provide you with news channels 24/7 some channels have tv guide some don t still updating the playlist as when i ve got time ( between doing 3 jobs and a family 😅) any way so its ready on the playstore if you sideloaded it last week now should update with the playstore Newshub
You can get most APKs by finding them on the Google Play web site and then pasting the URL into an APK downloader such as evozi. Start by googling "cbc gem google play" which finds this. Next, past the full URL from the Gem Google play page into the field on this page and hit return. After a second or two Evozi will generate a download link for the APK which you should be able to sideload. Gem might not run correctly for you though since Android TV, which I believe the Shield runs, is not exactly the same as regular Android.
So I'm shield dumb is the play store there ??
If so try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.cbc.android.cbctv
If not then would side loading it not resolve this ??
Get the APK from somewhere like apkmirror
Hi i made an app that works with android tv live channels the app only has free and available streams that are legit so if you have a website that i can get their legit streams then i will add it to playlist at your request i think i have some canadian links in the app check it out if you dont like it you can remove it you can provide me with websites that have free streams and legit if i can scrape the streams then ill add them :) FreeviewIPTV
Find a television with AndroidTV built in. I use the Sportsnet app on my AndroidTV and it works great. I don't think TSN has an app for AndroidTV yet, but you can watch in browser (I use Puffin TV Browser). In fact, that will work with any streaming service offered in a browser that doesn't have an AndroidTV app.
As a failsafe you can also just cast directly to the TV from your laptop on the rare occasion the browser isn't working with whatever service you're using, but I've never ran into that issue personally
You peaked my interest on this one because I've never thought about if the VPN would carry over to the hot spotted device so I just tried it and at least in my case it didn't carry over. It may be, because the VPN I use doesn't have its own app, I use OpenVPN on my phone and iPad for it but it is a very good VPN so I guess its apple's way of hot spotting their devices?
My phone located by IP while on Mullvad VPN
My iPad using the hotspot on my phone while on Mullvad VPN
Well, I have been once in the exact same situation when I bought Apple TV and unlocking my best shows was a real issue for me. I started searching for the VPNs and found NordVPN to be the most appropriate as you can easily connect it with your router and you are good to go to have a seamless experience. NordVPN routers are super compatible to be used. Here is a guide I have found on the internet, I have read it from here and bought NordVPN. It is working fine with me.
I'm with NordVPN too.
They have an option to order a dedicated IP which I haven't tried yet. Have you tried that?
If that won't work, any idea of a VPN or smartdns service that for sure will work? I've spent so much time on google trying to find a surefire way but so far no luck.
Yes that was the plan. No nord doesn’t have a tutorial for that, I used their chat platform and they do not support Shaw. So I guess my question is can I install another router after the Shaw modem and run NordVPN on that and hook my roku up to the new router?
I use NBA league pass with ExpressVPN to get around any black outs. I can then stream onto my AppleTV using airplay or chromecast.
I just pay with the regular Canadian rate but people posted about using a VPN to buy in countries where league pass is cheaper ie India.
I was going to comment this. I use ExpressVPN which is a little pricier than other VPN options but it works great. UK Netflix has a nice variety of shows including Better Call Saul as a weekly release when its airing live.
I created a new Apple account using a different email address and a US postal address.
Buy a US Apple Gift card either online for a premium of a few dollars or get someone in the states to go to Wallgreens or CVS for you and send you the numbers.
When Apple asks you for a CC, you can choose "Gift Card" and fund using the GC.
Setup a VPN (I use ExpressVPN but there are a few good ones) and select a fast US location relative to where you are. ExpressVPN has good support so they can help you out.
Once your VPN is setup at home, sign into your Apple TV with your US based account, download Hulu and buy a Hulu subscription through iTunes.
Happy to answer any questions, I've been using Hulu in Canada for a few years now. My opinion though is Crave is as good or better and no hassle with VPN.
