I am so sorry your mom spoke to you like that. Nobody deserves to be shamed & talked down to like that, especially coming from a parent. As a mom myself, that just breaks my heart. I understand that it's a cultural thing to value an "intact hymen" (don't get me started, that's a whole other world of myths, mis-information & magical thinking). Virginity has to do with sexual contact with another person, not personal hygiene. Anyways, telling a 22 year old woman what she can & cannot do with her own body is just not something I can understand. Sending you some internet stranger Mom hugs 💕
If you want to sterilize your wonderful new cup privately, they make cup sterilizing machines like this. There are also sterilization tabs meant for baby bottles & pacifiers like these. They are not too common in the US, but easy to find in stores in Europe.
Well, there are little machines you can buy to clean/sanitize them.
I bought pixie's cup menstrual cup sterilizer on Amazon. No risk of fire, turn it on when I shower and done. Plus, the whole using a pot and waiting for it to boil was way too much work for me haha. Here's a link: Menstrual Cup Sterilizer - Kills... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07M5HGTJ6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
My cup sometimes gets some powdery-looking stains after boiling, which is just due to my apartment’s hard water. Rubbing with a liiiiittle bit of vinegar (and letting it completely dry!) removes it though. Was your cup’s material explicitly listed on its packaging/literature or in its Amazon page? The material your cup is made of will directly affect whether certain cleaners may degrade your cup; and if it wasn’t listed, it’s possible that it isn’t suitable enough for use. If you’re worried about continuing to use it, a nice Amazon budget option is the Blossom Cup, which is medical-grade silicone. It’s been my one and only cup so far and I enjoy it. Good luck!!
I had similar issues when I started using the cup. What helped was cutting the stem completely off and "pushing down" when removing the cup. It's basically just doing Kegel exercises (Cosmopolitan has a few more exercises) so you might wanna look into that. Good luck and don't worry, it sometimes takes a bit to get the cup business right but you'll get there!
My cup also tends to go up during the night. The trick is to chill a bit after waking up. I just get up, have breakfast, organize my clothes for the day and by the time I get to the bathroom (like 30 minutes later) the cup has travelled down a bit. Pushing down/doing Kegel exercises also helps. Besides that you don't really need to change your sleeping habits. If you have a heavy flow just make sure you empty the cup right before you go to bed and maybe wear a backup pad
I like these bags to sterilize my cups. They are super easy, don’t take a lot of room and just take some water and 90 seconds+ depending on your microwave. Each bag is 20 uses as well. It does create waste though, so that is something to look at. I had leftovers from pumping and found a great use for them!
Maybe consider a silicone baby spoon? Something like this?
i take a mug, preheat by pouring in boiling water, and then let my cup sit in boiling water. super easy, don’t really worry about over heating them. you can dump the water and do it again if you want.
either method works. but for me im not allowed to have a microwave in my dorm, and i don’t really want to use a communal microwave to nuke my menstural cup 😂
I wouldn't advise getting a used cup. Duchess cups are 2 for $18 on Amazon. I've never used them but a friend of mine approves. Here's a link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PBJFA3M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ogLMybFPKE9MC
The Pixie cup is another good deal at $15. It comes with sanitizing wipes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0197T6IEQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zhLMyb8Z8EK28
Just search Amazon for "menstrual cup" and you'll see plenty of affordable options
First of all congrats on your new adventure! Sorry it has been so tough. :-/
You can trim some of the stem so it isn't so uncomfortable when you have it in just make sure to leave a little to grab hold of if
It is impossible to suction your uterus out pulling on the cup, so no worries there.
When taking the cup out you MUST release the suction before trying to pull on the stem. To release the suction you grab the very bottom of the cup(above the stem) and squeeze, from there it should easily come out. I know it seems like a good idea to practice while not on your period, but when you are on your period you have a lot more lubrication to help you and ease discomfort.
Don't give up! I found the diva cup can be hard for beginners as it is a stiffer silicone than other brands. I personally like the lunette brand Amazon has a lot of cheaper brands read the reviews and see what you like.
You can also find a lot of YouTube videos that show techniques for putting in and removing the cup. Good luck!
OrganiCup by OrganiCup
The size A is the equivalent of $23.73 plus shipping @ the home site, but the size B and both sizes on Amazon (shipping free with Prime) are just over the $25 USD per cup limit I specified in the post, so I won't put them in the main post sadly (for some, just a few dollars can make a big difference).
But here's the links!
Another one that might be a little out there: Certain colors of the Lunette are selling for around $27 on [Amazon])https://www.amazon.com/Lunette-Reusable-Menstrual-Cup-Vaginas/dp/B0758JQ3RJ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=Lunette%2Bcup&qid=1555279319&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&th=1)
Yes, that's slightly higher than what this post is asking for. But Lunette normally retails for $40, so I figure it's worth mentioning if someone was interested in that cup but didn't want to/can't drop the $40 on it.
It's ok if it's not fully submerged, but most of the way would be ideal. Using something to push it down if it's floating too high is a good idea. Even more ideal is a sterilizer, I bought this one and it works like a charm. UV light is even more effective than boiling when it comes to sterilizing: https://www.amazon.com/Menstrual-Cup-Sterilizer-Minutes-Period/dp/B07M5HGTJ6
That's perfectly fine. I've been using mine for over three years straight and I generally just sterilize at the end of my period, I haven't had any issues. I also wash it when I empty it with the Saalt wash
Maybe this is just me but I wouldn't trust anything cheap from China if I'm putting it in my body. It could be legit, but I can't say for sure.
I don't think so, I would just wash it with cup wash in warm water.
I second this, a lot of discharge doesn't just come from your cervix, it also comes in the form of vaginal walls' discharge, arousal fluid, natural lubrication, etc. Using a cup might help (you can try it for a day or two to see if it makes any difference). If it does, then you could ask a gynecologist about it, if they don't approve of it, or if you are looking for some alternative way, you could use cloth pads.
I bought these from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7HY0YF/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_G285Eb7Q61BN9
But you can buy cheaper or more expensive ones than these. The ones that I bought were really thin, and I bought them because my nexplanon implant gave me a very very light period for some time, and I didn't want to use a cup but I didn't want to ruin my panties. These were fairly good, although they moved around a bit. They were basically like a napkin. But I have more absorbent cloth pads and you can search for pantyliner ones that are pretty thin, but would prevent your panties from getting soaked. Idk some days I just can't get myself to insert a cup, and clothpads felt a little less intrusive. I still use cups for my full fledged periods though. So yeah. You could also look at r/clothpads for help. Also you can definitely find cloth pads that don't move around a lot, but these ones were very breathable unlike more absorbent ones.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/menorrhagia/symptoms-causes/syc-20352829
NHS states over 60ml requires a conversation with a doctor. Mayo Clinic is a bit less specific and not too useful for cup users but it sounds like your period is quite heavy. Always worth mentioning these things if just for reassurance.

Pixie also sells a collapsible silicone bowl that can be used to microwave boil/sterilize. I had one as well that I would use for a peroxide soak on occasion. Mine was an original version in bright blue but this one is the new release. Might be worth it to reuse instead of repurchasing plastic bags? Whatever works best for you!

I use baby bottle sterilizing bags. You just pour in the right amount of water, pop it in the microwave for a couple minutes, and you're done. They're also reusable, and one bag can last a year or more depending on how often you use it. Here is a link to the bags I use. Link
I think PopCup might be good for you. It's really soft and on the longer/thinner side. The large holds 40ml which is on par with the ones recommended by the quiz. I got mine on Amazon. It looks like it's available in the US and Canada.
Here's the link to the Amazon.ca listing.
I really like the Isabel Fay lube. I have sensitive skin and it doesn’t cause me any irritation. The bottle is discrete enough I don’t mind leaving it on the counter for easy access and the pump gives the right amount for me. According to Amazon, I purchased it over a year ago and still have a ton, so I would say it is good value for money.

I use this - Munchkin Portable UV Sterilizer. I like that it can be used with batteries or with a USB cable. I'm sure there are several options under $20 for UV or steam seterilizers in the baby section & they will probably be about 1/2 the price than one specifically for a menstrual cup.

Got a link to the snaps if you were wondering: Snaps with Attaching Tool
I’m not sure about the longevity of these snaps but they seem to hold tight and take some force to pull apart
I agree with the PACII Test to start. Something to note though, it’s VERY typical for you to stop menstrating during Boot camp. My sister and every female who went in her class stopped.
That being said, get a portable way to clean it. Idk what branch or division but occasionally, there are no bathrooms. My sister took a cup and SHIBARI Revive Toy Cleaner, 8 Ounce Spray Bottle (Revive Fresh) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MSLMNW2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QufpFbNRFB6H6 to clean when unable to get to a bathroom.
You can get a cup steamer menstrual cup steamer there are lots of generic and menstrual cup brand steamers on the market from about $15-25 on Amazon. You just fill them up with a bit of water, put your cup in, then turn it on and let it steam for five minutes and your cup is sterilized.
I got these cheap ones from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078S6KRX2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VYzrFb5H11H7T
I wash them on cold and it says not to dry them but I do it anyway. I’ve had them for 8 months and they’re holding up great.
I've done that on the desktop site but apparently mobile apps are a different story. I'm using Relay for reddit and I don't see any path to the original post.
I really like PopCup. The large holds 40 ml which is on par with the highest capacity cups. (The small holds as much as the Saalt large). It's a softer cup which is great if you pelvic floor is weaker. I got mine here
I really like PopCup. It's tall which works great if you have a high cervix and the large holds 40 ml which is on par with the highest capacity cups. (The small holds as much as the Saalt large). It's a softer cup which is great for me since I have bladder sensitivity. Just as soft or maybe a bit softer than the Saalt soft. I got mine here
I ride a bike daily as my mode of transportation. The only bike seat that is comfortable for me is a nose less one.
(I'm on mobile, apologize for the wall of text of a link)
And unfortunately, my current bike's seat cannot be changed, so it's painful constantly if I don't have a cushioned seat cover on it. Even then it's still a pain.
If you can try a seat like this, I recommend it 100%. Just make sure you check the screws that hold it on, because they like to wiggle loose and you will lose one.
The SHORDY cup is on sale for about $10. The sale lasts for only 10 hours. https://www.amazon.com/SHORDY-Menstrual-Leak-Proof-Eco-Friendly-Alternative/dp/B08246VY1T?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1
Hmm maybe this bundle was an error and they meant to pair the wash with the cup.
https://www.amazon.com/Softdisc-Menstrual-Discs-Count-Soft/dp/B0B3754GGZ.
Or else I really dont understand why they've done this
I wash it at the end of each day with an unscented body wash (Aveeno and Dove work well). At the end of my cycle, I sterilize it with a steamer after washing it.
The steamer in question: https://www.amazon.com/Menstrual-Cup-Sterilizer-Minutes-Period/dp/B07M5HGTJ6
This is about the cheapest I could find on Amazon, and I think it's essentially the same model as the June cup if you want to read relevant reviews. Or maybe these ones if you're willing to spend the extra couple of dollars to have two different size options to try out. But for what it's worth, cups pay for themselves within a few months even if you get a "name brand" one, and you get better customer support if you can buy from one of the bigger brands (I know Saalt and Lena will send you different cups to try for free if you can't get your first one of theirs working).
Practice just like with anything. Watch videos on folds. Practice the folds before you need to use it.
Take a deep breath any time you feel overwhelmed. There is a learning curve it is as with anything. I say start off by practicing and emptying in the shower. Less mess easy clean up.

>Lena Sensitive Small
I can't find the measurements for this one. Is it smaller than the Saalt soft small? (Measurements in the listed picture)
I did! I got this one amazon link It's just some unbranded one, but it's been working well so far. 5ml will steam for about 2min, 10ml for about 4ish. It comes with two cups as well. $34, so pretty good value.
Hmm. If you are looking for a taller cup with a longer grippy stem that's softer than the Lena, I would look into PopCup. That's the one I use and I really like it. I got mine here.
If you want to stick with the Lena tulip shape there's a brand I like called PopCup. It's basically a softer version of Lena sensitive. Much more affordable too. I got mine here.
Towards the very beginning/end of my period I notice I need a softer/smaller cup. For some reason there's just not as much room down there. I used to use Lena, but then I switched to PopCup. It's the same tulip shape as Lena, but much softer, so I don't get that UTI feeling anymore. I got mine here.
I have the Nixit and it's working great for me so far (only one cycle, but I have a very heavy flow). However, since the rim is not as firm, sometimes it also feels like I'm not tucking it up as far as possible behind the pubic bone. As in if it was less flimsy, I'd be able to bring it up more. If you feel like you are pushing as far up as much as you can, the disc may just be the wrong size.
Thankfully it only autodumps when I'm bearing down for a bowel movement and I do have to tuck it back in. I wasn't even paying attention which way I was angling it for insertion, but I believe upwards towards tailbone is correct.
As a fellow Canadian, we do not have many options unfortunately. I saw somewhere else on here that you can purchase the Moonthlies disc on the American Amazon which can ship to a Canadian address. Each order comes with two, so you can try the set which has both sizes (you have the option of either 2 small, 2 large, or 1 of each). The rim seems to be firmer which might help you in tucking it upwards more securely.
Here is the Amazon link:
https://www.amazon.com/MOONTHLIES-Reusable-Menstrual-Disc-Alternative/dp/B09Y26PMD5
I have tried ziggy, nixit and EcoBlossom. Ziggy was not a good fit for me. Nixit is great but to be honest, the large eco blossom is my favourite. The large is the same size as the nixit, but it is firmer and so easier to insert.
Lena was my first cup! I also have a sensitive bladder, so I had to find a different option though.
FYI. For those looking for a more affordable option, I like PopCup. It's the same bell shape and super soft.
June cup is good, but now $8 when it used to be 6. I got these cups from amazon and they've worked great!
Pixie Cup makes a steamer that's portable and very easy to use (I own one myself and it's great!). It's a good option if you don't want to have to boil it.
https://www.amazon.com/Menstrual-Cup-Sterilizer-Minutes-Period/dp/B07M5HGTJ6
I didn’t read through all the comments, but I just ordered a pixie cup brand bowl/cup for cleaning menstrual cups and only found out after receiving that it’s also for cleaning in public. You add some water bring into the bathroom go into the stall, add the cup, put on the lid, which seals all the way, and shake. I haven’t needed to use it like that. But I believe it’s seal would do the trick.

I’ve got a portable silicone sterilising cup for mine! It’s collapsible so easy to travel with, you just pop the cup in it and fill it with boiling water, leave it for a few minutes and you’re good to go!
In my personal opinion (not a doctor or expert) - if it's safe enough for babies with no immune systems, it's safe enough for a vagina. I mean, penises have been going into vaginas for all of human history with very few problems. They are rarely washed beforehand & have never been sterilized! Pretty much the only difference between bottle steam sterilizers & cup steam sterilizers is that companies can charge twice as much if it's for 'ladies' & it's probably pink. They work exactly the same. There a lots of baby bottle warmers that also have a steam sterilizing function.
I use microwave steam sterilizing bags meant for babies like these. I only boil my cup if it's new or if I drop it somewhere really gross.
The one I have is the brand "Ohuhu"? But it doesnt seem to exist anymore. The one I have is still going strong after all these years.
here is one that is similar to mine.
It has been a game changer for me, and makes my period more bearable. I start with a small cup, then for 2 days I use large cup then small and at the end the mini, it all depends on the flow. Oh, and when I work or go out I have a firm cup, much thicker it flexible material. And the period panties I got on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V6Q8XLD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) these are my favorite period panties. Don't forget the personal line, any more help, advice just let me know and if you need a picture of the lube I use just let me know.
To sterilize my cup every month I don't boil it, I use microwave steam sterilizing bags like these sold in the baby section. They are inexpensive and reusable around 20 times (depending on brand). Also super quick & easy to use - just add water & microwave for a couple on minutes. I only boil my cup if something happens like dropping it in the toilet or if I've had a yeast infection. And then I probably boil it far, far longer than necessary!
Several of the popular cup brands also make special cup safe cleansers. They are very overpriced in my opinion! I use Cetaphil face wash, but any gentle soap will work. You just want it to be fragrance free. Basically, you want a gentle soap that won't irritate your vagina if any residue remains on the cup after washing it.
There are specialized cup sterilizing machines like these that are pretty popular. I use microwave steam sterilize bags like these from the baby aisle. You can also buy "bottle/pacifier sterilizers" that basically do the same thing as a cup sterilizer. They sanitize with steam or UV light. You can also just use a big microwave safe container & boil your cup in the microwave. I have used a big mason jar & microwaved my cup for about 8 minutes - 3 min to get the water up to a boil & 5 more min to keep it boiling. Any big container with enough room to submerge your cup (with extra room for the water that will boil away) will work.
You can always use a mug and microwave it. I bought a collapsible silicone cup like this one, fill it with water and microwave it for 5 min. That way I have a dedicated container for it. I then keep it collapsed with my cup when not in use.
I’ve always put my cup in one of these. You can stick it in the microwave, but I just pour boiling water in it with my cup inside, then let it sit for 3 minutes. It’s handy, because I don’t have to watch my cup while it boils.
I would be very wary -- I have seen MANY horrible reviews about this company - people never get their cup & First Greener refuses to issue refunds.
For night time or heavy days, I like PopCup. It's on the softer side. The large holds 40ml and it's long enough to work if you have a high cervix. It's also more affordable than the Super Jennie if that's a concern.
Sounds like you have a high cervix, so I would look into a longer cup. But definitely measure you cervix height first. One of my favorites, PopCup works well if you have a high cervix. You can check it out here.
I really like PopCup. It's a softer cup which makes it more comfortable since I have sensitivities like you do. It would also be long enough for a high cervix. I got mine here.
PopCup is a really great beginner cup. It's a softer cup which makes it easier to insert and remove for beginners or people who are more sensitive. I got mine here.
That’s too bad, I really hope you are able to find a good solution.
The FemmyCup low cervix is an interesting option. It’s a completely different shape than most cups, but I would read some reviews, and just kind of look at it to see if it would be a good fit (and maybe someone who has had experience with it could make a new post, or respond to your post - to make sure you see it - with their experiences).
Actually I have these cups : https://www.amazon.com/Dutchess-Menstrual-Authentic-Original-Cups/dp/B00PBJFA3M
They are FDA Registered too. I’m having the same problem! The swelling doesn’t hurt or bother me in anyway but after using the cup for a day or two I get this swelling ! Can dehydration cause this issue too?
I have never used Nixit wipes, but have brought Cottonelle Flushable Wipes before, and it really was helpful. Especially in situations where you don’t have access to running water.
(I have also used baby wipes in a pinch, but prefer the toilet paper wipes)
PopCup is a really great beginner cup. It's a softer cup which makes it easier to insert and remove for beginners or people who are more sensitive. I got mine here.
I really like PopCup. It's a softer cup, so I don't have issues with bladder sensitivity when I use it. It's a bell shaped, so it's longer than the round-shaped ones which should make it easier to get out. I got mine here.
I really like PopCup. The large holds 40 ml which is on par with the highest capacity cups. (The small holds as much as the Saalt large). It's a softer cup which is great for me since I have bladder sensitivity. I got mine here.
Menstrual discs are also a good option.

Good luck!
The baby section of stores or online is a great place to find lots of different sterilizing items. If its safe for a baby's mouth, its safe for an person's vagina!
Some people use Milton Sterilising Tablets to disinfect their cup. They are meant for disinfecting baby bottles. They also make battery powered UV light sterilizers like this, also from the baby section. They are marketed to sterilize pacifiers. You can also use steam sterilizing machines that plug in. They make some specifically for menstrual cups, but you can buy similar machines in the baby section for a lower price. I use microwave steam sterilizing bags (also from the baby section). They are inexpensive, reusable, and only take a little water and a couple of minutes in to microwave.
Get this:
https://www.amazon.com/Menstrual-Cup-Sterilizer-Minutes-Period/dp/B07M5HGTJ6
or pick up some Milton sterilizing tablets and those work fine also.
I mean I meant the Lily cup compact, here’s the link for the one I mean (not the teen one). I promise it’s not bigger than any other one on the market , and the rest is the best out of all the ones I’ve tried. My younger sister also has one and she hadn’t even used tampons when she started using it. It’s definitely daunting , but it’s not at all more difficult than any other one, if anything it’s better in my experience. Also my sister has a high cervix and it works really well for her.
The light pink one depending on your flow can be worn for between 6 (4 if you are super super heavy) to 12 hours ( on my very light days I even wear it for 18 sometimes bad but sometimes I really can’t be asked to change it and it’s not at all dangerous)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071ZFH5WF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_AZQNJH03WYQRYZ00REGQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 here you go! i try not to support amazon too much to be more environmentally friendly, but as a broke college student, you have to pick your battles 😅
I quite like this one, Menstrual Period Cup - Gephonsi Premium Soft Medical Grade Germany Wacker Silicon Reusable Menstrual Cup for Women Including Portable Storage Bag, White, Small https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092TL5J24/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_7EA21AFPK7QK2Z6SSWBM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1, it's super slick so it slides out when I pull on it without having to break the seal, I haven't gotten to fully test it out, but so far it goes in and comes out super easy, it's got a super smooth texture instead of a matte finish.
Like a steamer made for cups. This is the one I have as an example, but there are many different ones.

I love my femmy cycle cup. Rarely leaks.
I have the flex cup and it was problematic comparitively during bathroom times.
I started with a Flex cup and I ended up hating the design since it was messy and leaky but made me love cups over pads and tampons.
Since I was still a new user with a high cervix, I wanted something that felt safe for easy removal. I ended up going with a cup off Amazon called Peachlife. It comes in a variety of sizes and firmness. It has a built in loop for extra grip over a stem design. The cup is comfortable for me, even with the loop design. I have had occasional leaks but I think it’s me from not inserting it properly or it got full. Their customer service is great. If the cup you ordered is not the proper fit, they will send you another cup of your choice for free.
The link is just for their standard soft size.

Menstrual Cups Multi Pack Heavy Flow Flexible Disposable Softcup Small Or Large Two Pack with Storage Silicone Soft Cups Menstrual Organic Cups Small https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0824PH8M3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_CE72A5E0V6RED4K0FN53?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 this one, lol. I didn't want to spend a lot of money going into this in case I didn't end up liking the cups. It's weird that it's worked perfectly for half a year though and only NOW decides to give me issues D:
When I got paragard (non-hormonal IUD) I started getting the heaviest periods of my life, like I was filling my cup in 2-4 hours heavy and I ruined many set did clothes. I'd been using the smaller Lena cup for almost a year at that point. I ended up going to the large size ($25) which helped, but still isn't fool proof on my heaviest days. So I started using the larger cup with cloth pads (7 for $13) as a back up in case I leak (I like them because they're more absorbent than disposable ones). So far this has worked for me as long as I'm able empty my cup at least every 4 hours and the cloth pads keep me from bleeding thorough my clothes if I do leak.

I found a new brand on Amazon called PopCup that is softer similar to the Blossom. That should help prevent the pain and cramping. I really like it so far.
Here's a link if you're interested.
If you want to be extra safe, I've always used a waterproof underpad rather than a towel (I've bled through towels in the past). It's totally worth the investment! I think you can find a variety of waterproof pads in the sheets or baby section of stores like Target/Walmart, but here's an Amazon link:

I have always used these--since my first time because of the price. I highly recommend. Only $9 for a TWO PACK (Crazy, I know)! Anyway, here is the link. I love mine and have had a great experience but even if you do not love it, it was only $9. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B072BMCGNW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I just wanted to say that you can buy a sterilizer for your menstrual cup! I looked through this thread and I was surprised that no one mentioned it here. I bought one from amazon and it is so helpful! You just put some water in it, place your cup inside, and plug it into the wall (you can do it in the bathroom and it's more discreet)
My cat ate my saalt cup too. Along with my peachlife from amazon. I love both of these cups. The Peachlife is my fave, but I’m also thinking about getting a MeLuna cup. The cup I’m using right now to get me thru till my replacements come, is the compact Lily cup. I keep it in my car for emergencies and travel with it. I don’t get cramps so I don’t always know when my period is going to start. If you like the saalt cup like I do, because of the silicone feel, size and firmness you’ll prob like the other cups I mentioned. The Peachlife is the cheapest cup I have and just as great as the other ones I like. 😗
Mini - Medium Firm - Menstrual... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NNR9XQK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Have you tried a different brand? I've used several, and I found that if the the silicon is too soft it won't unfold like it should. Flip side, if it's too hard, it can pop open too early. Also, your vagina shouldn't feel irrated if it's in the right spot. The stem could be too long (you may be able to trim it), or the cup may be too big.
Edit: Your cervix moves through out your period as well, which can effect placement of the cup.
I'm current using this brand's smallest size. It's the most comfortable one I've found.

Ack! Those dreams sound awful. I’m sorry. :(
I have leak anxiety too, and always use a pad as backup.
For at night, I bought one of those waterproof bed pads they make for bed wetters. It only goes on my side of the bed, which makes life easier. It’s easy to wash too. Especially vs changing the sheets.
I bought these and they have worked really well! I also have a few ones from an Etsy shop. I wear cotton bikini knickers (think medium gusset more friction than silky knickers...) and they stay really well. I have heard of people using double sided tape to keep them from moving.
Ouch... They were $52 last week.
This is the regular cup. It's $54.90 with free shipping....
This one is the xl. (they only have it in clear) for $47.05 if they'll let you order it in Canada
No, it requires a tampon left for long periods of time. And the bacteria that causes it is usually already present. You would unlikely introduce it. Taking your cup out, and let it heal like you would a cut. The natural moisture will help. You should be fine. I have to look it up, but I believe there have only been 2 reported cases of cups and TSs and there was no conclusive evidence that they caused it. Antecdotal. Not to worry. Trim those nails. Keeps the vulva clean with gentle cleanser and sanitize the cup prior to your first use. I think you'll be a ok! :)
Here's an example:. I put it for 4 min in the microwave. :)

This is the one I bought, it's made for pacifiers and bottle nipples but it fits my cup fine. It may not work of you larger cups. My lumma medium is the biggest cup/disc I own and it fits a bit snug.

A couple months ago I got a set from Amazon on the recommendation of a friend. The brand is Bambody. You get 3 pair for around the same price as 1 pair of Thinx. And they are fantastically comfortable! Bambody Period Underwear
You can use premium quality cloth pads. Rebelle makes great cloth pads. I'll post the Amazon link for pads and pantyliners for you. Buy both. You can use Bio-D laundry bar to wash them. The soap is ideal.for sensitive skin, it's biodegradable and 100% vegetarian. Soft cotton pads. https://www.amazon.in/idham-Reusable-Naturally-Comfortable-Menstrual/dp/B07V4CSPBZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=rebelle+cloth+pads+for+women&qid=1604333275&sprefix=rebelle+cloth&sr=8-3
Bio d soap you will get on Amazon, or apna bazaar. It's made by anuspa company which is Indian. So no need to be disheartened. These pads last for 5 years. Enjoy :) right now due to covid they are giving away free cloth mask with the pads. So hurry up.
