Apparently there's mahogany underneath that gold spray paint. Are you looking for a project?
Have you thought about using protective tablecloths until they grow out of it? I'd get a thick vinyl felt backed tablecloth, and then put a washable MCM styled one over top. Maybe swap out a couple chairs just for the kids?
If it's the legs you're worried about, heck I'd be tempted to cut up some pool noodles to protect them.
Get a depiller to clean it up until you decide whether to reupholster or not.
I've had an idea. https://www.amazon.com/Oz-Suede-Dye-Black-Fiebing/dp/B008ROOJ1M/ref=asc_df_B008ROOJ1M/ I think it just might fix the problem. Do that, strip the arms and you'll have a real winner.
Bought it secondhand on FB for cheap but it’s actually sold at various stores and Amazon for $300-400. Quality is just okay.
Thanks for letting me know. Maybe something like this would do the trick. I definitely see how the edge would be a pressure point on the wrists.
Very similar to this new version : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D2CB9KM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&th=1
Its a BREADBASKET!
Thank you!
I got the legs off Amazon.
I would highly recommend adding a piece of wood to the bottom if you’re planning to do it on ikea furniture or something heavy. I didn’t the first time and the legs ripped off 💀
I got the starburst backing & knobs off Etsy! [Starburst backing](www.etsy.com/listing/960052659) [Knobs](www.etsy.com/listing/573620042)
I got a knock off from Amazon last year (something like this, they’re all the same at this price range) and I like it a lot. The leather is obviously a lower quality and scratches a bit easier, but honestly the wood grain is beautiful and polished up nicely. It’s my most complimented piece of furniture.
I was going to say, I bought a similar looking chair on Amazon for about half the price. There are tall versions of the chair on there too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09STG3852/ref=twister\_B09KMRY4D7?\_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I like it! I agree that the font should be a little more mcm, maybe some of these could steer you somewhere?
I also personally would like to see the words "mid century" in a darker, heavier color, maybe a dark brown to match the one on the roof? Just a thought.
They need it gone by Friday (8/16) and free if you pick up and move it yourself. It works, and it'd be a shame to see this go to a landfill. I'd take it but I already have a hotpoint mid century range.

If you're looking for cheap leather that holds up I own this chairand LOVE it. Yes I do consider $500 for a leather chair to be cheap. Pair this with a fabric sofa.
Not the same, but reminds me of this chair: https://www.amazon.com/Volans-Mid-Century-Leather-Upholstered-Wood-Grain/dp/B08319HDMQ
I'm in the middle of the same process, the two books I've found the most inspiring have been this:
https://www.amazon.com/Midcentury-Modern-Landscape-Ethne-Clarke/dp/1423645804
and this:
https://www.amazon.com/Sunset-Western-Garden-Book-Landscaping/dp/0376030100
the latter's more specific to desert landscaping, but it leans towards a MCM landscaping style that works well enough with my house.
https://www.amazon.com/Soviet-Space-Graphics-Cosmic-Visions/dp/1838660534
Also zeroing in on the 'space' theme... This book is full of posters made by soviet artists to inspire the populace for the upcoming era of space exploration (which didn't really happen 😔) I love this book for it's aesthetics, and I think it could be a great book for design inspirations!
This is by far the easiest option

Somebody misinterpreted what a banana hanger is.
buy this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01635K1AO put the chair in a small room. remove all the cushions and place them on stands for air flow all around. block up the hvac vents. run it daily for a week. take care with pets. do not let them in the room. it will work.
An Ozonator would be my suggestion. Put all the furniture in one room. Open all the cabinet doors and keep the drawers out loose as seen in your photos. Block off the air vents. Run it while you are NOT at home. It will take several days of use. I used the below in each room of my house to purge decades of dog and old lady smells. It worked well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01635K1AO
Here it is on Amazon, and here’s a photo of mine set up.. I put fabric behind it to hide the cords.
It’s heavy, sturdy, went together easily, and I’m happy with it.
At first it reminded me of one Home Depot sold... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019516Z6C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PWIKFbDAE7R64
BUT...the arms on your pic are different. Little Nancy-Drew-ing...
Looks like you found a Murphy Miller sofa by Kroehler. This one has a tufted seat, but the arms are the key. https://www.furnishmevintage.com/mid-century-modern-murphy-miller-sofa/
Hope this helps point you in the right direction. 😉
I share a townhouse and I started this before Covid, but every time I tried to park on the street to give me room to work in the garage I got towed, had my tires slashed, or got hit by some drunk idiot, so I've only been able to work on it one the rare occasions I was able to find some other safe place to park.
The wood is Paduk, and I used this finish because of it's reported UV resistance. I'm not normally a fan of synthetic finishes, but with roommates and a dog I wanted something as tough as possible.
It was a great learning experience, and I'm considering matting it down just a bit to make it a little less shockingly reflective.
Any critiques/feedback/suggestions on how to improve are much appreciated.
You're right... I checked again and it was Blue Magic brand:
Blue Magic Leather and Vinyl Cleaner
Blue Magic Leather and Vinyl Conditioner
Sorry for the confusion!
I can't find anything Weiman makes that is specifically for vinyl. Would you perhaps have a link to what you're talking about? I really only see leather shampoo and conditioner: https://www.amazon.com/Weiman-Leather-Cleaner-Conditioner-Briefcase/dp/B00LTDJ1Q6
Notice how the wood is light colored underneath? This was finished using toners to achevie that darker look. It's just a bunch of different kinds of cheap wood toned to be one uniform color. It's what most brands did back then.
You'll need to finish with toner and lacquer. You can buy toner off Amazon. It's not difficult, you're basically spray painting. Strip, sand, vinyl sealer, toner, lacquer.

Unless you're in love with this piece I wouldn't bother.
