Wow! Congratulations on starting your writing!
I don't believe anyone is a bad writer. Just not taught!
You're welcome to post chapters, but I suggest if grammar is your issue, you can use aids like ProWritingAid. You can also ask questions!
Hm, I was torn on this one for a lot of reasons. Descriptive work is decent, opening was a good hook, and you clearly care about your writing. But the dialogue tags are consistently wrong, and there's so much "tell" vs "show" that it's distracting, enough that I can't include it here.
Not a bad story, but this is a high bar. Brushing up on your dialogue grammar rules would be a vast improvement.
There was actually a challenge on PokeAmino where people had to make a story/post with that exact premise. You could probably find some good stories there. Here’s the link to the post linking the winner.
Power Trip is a PMD story that fits everything you've asked for. The characters are interesting and well developed, the word count is something like 270k, the world-building is well done, and the plot escalates at a nice pace. Even if you're hesitant to read PMD stuff, I'd recommend giving it a read regardless as it's one of the most well-written fanfics I've seen.
Cge0361's Ocimene universe consists of stories taking place on the distinct region of Ocimene. The author does an incredible job of writing well developed and memorable characters. The plots are almost completely character driven, and as you see the characters deal with their issues, you get exposed to a thoughtfully built world that tries to show how the world of pokemon may function. Each story is distinct aside from the occasional appearance of another's cast, and do not really reach the grand scale of plot or length you were looking for (one exception regarding length being his 200k word story that is only on his fanfiction.net account), but I believe that they are well worth a read as stories that move away from the cliche over-the-top plots that escalate into the stratosphere. It's refreshing to see a plot driven by interesting characters instead of events pushing protagonists into world changing scenarios as seems to be the norm in this fandom.
I am writing a fanfic that may be what you're looking for, if you don't mind me shamelessly plugging my own fic.
At least, I believe it fits the more "realistic" but not dark or edgy category. The aim is to somewhat ground the pokemon world, and making sure that the existence of pokemon has had a profound affect on the society and its people without losing its inherent appeal and without at all diving into a "oh my god, we are battling eldritch monsters for survival" thing.
It's called Clear Skies Above and it is about two sisters starting their own pokemon journey with the aim to make it in the pokemon battling world. The focus will be on the relationship of the sisters as they have been estranged, on their individual goals, the capture and training of pokemon and navigating that world.
They are OCs though, so don't know you would feel about that and I won't really delve into typical pokemon plots like a team of villains aiming for world domination or something or legendaries and prophecies and really mainly the pokebattling akin to a professional sport.

Other than that, I can second Pedstal, Game of Champions and Traveler although I haven't finished the last one.
Any time. If you wanted to give me a review, I wouldn't mind one for my latest chapter here:

It's kind of long (5K), so if you don't want to read the whole thing, I was experimenting with a new style about half way through. It starts after the second line break, so feedback on any part after that would be much appreciated. Thanks =)
