This is by the crazy intimidatingly good artist Sabeena Karnik. I came across it on the internet about 4 years ago and had no idea what it was, only that it was beautiful.
If you want to see more of here, here's her site:
I just started a few weeks ago with this kit:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M59999B/ref=cm\_sw\_r\_tw\_dp\_PYr3FbR1X538E?\_x\_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It was less than $20 and was enough to get started with. Glue, scissors, paper, tweezers, quilling board, etc.
If you need any help, I'm relatively new at this myself! I only started quilling a few months ago and I'm in loveee with it.
I bought this set off amazon and I -really- like the paper. It's standard width and the colors are represented really well in the picture they have on there. I don't know anything about cutting your own, but like everyone says, that sounds like oodles of work. :( Good luck!
I use tacky glue. It's thick and I think less moisture in it. You might not notice it when only glueing a few items but when you are covering solid it makes a big difference. i like it too because you can reposition easily too.

I’d get something like this with removable dividers. I’d group similar colors. You could keep them in a bag or just lay them in the compartment. If you have a ton you could get larger versions of this at Home Depot. If you check hardware stores you might be able to find a cool box for them. My quilling stuff is in an old box my husband bought full of an assortment of zip-ties. They compartments were long and skinny, so perfect for this. My jewelry findings are in little fishing gear boxes. My sewing box has long skinny compartments. It’s an old pink Caboodle makeup box. If you keep an eye out everywhere you go you’ll find the perfect box someday. 😉
I think you did pretty well, on edge quilling can be more difficult. It looks like it could be easier for you to do on edge quilling if you used cardstock, as it looks like you used regular quilling strips. Cardstock is stiffer, so holds its shape better, to relatively easily make curved strips. It isn't practical at all to use single quilling strips for smooth curves. You can also glue two quilling strips together, but it can be difficult to shape the strips smoothly after gluing together, because the glue would have dried in a straight line, and can morph with two strips (I did this for my first on edge picture, I'd have posted in like January, of peeps bunnies) . I also like to use a tool like this (I have this one, and it's great) to etch my design in advance, particularly for a heart (so you could print out the heart or other shape you want in the right size, and emboss with this tool on the printed sheet, to then go on your surface). This helps a lot to ensure your shape is precisely right.
This is a good kit, I started off with this. Had a wide variety of papers and tools.

They likely used a crimper. Here's one that offers multiple styles (I have zero idea if that is a good one. Just linking an example for conversation's sake).
it’s actually the back side of my little beginners quilling board kit i got off amazon!

Wow beautiful work! I've tried Diamond Glaze before based on the recommendation from a blog I found online, and it seemed to work pretty well. It does darken the paper very slightly, but the finish is hard and sturdy.
Thanks! I like to use these backing boards on amazon, and I also get a set of mats. I assemble it all woth spray adhesive. I like to use a thick cardstock or Bristol paper for ink blending on top of the board. To assemble a papaer backing on the cardboard backing, the cardboard has to be sprayed as spray glue will spray paper with attached directly. For the guitar, I cut it out with my electrobic cutting machine with a cut file i found. You could also print out a guitar and trace it on sturdy cardstock with an embossibg stylus. To glue paper to paper, i like to use a glue called Art Glitter Glue, as it doesnt warp at all, and otherwise I use tacky glue.

This one has a couple of the stick tools, scissors, and tweezers. That’s all I use. The stick holds your paper while you roll it, and the tweezers are nice to maneuver stuff into place.
Thank you so much! And yup, she is safe in a shadow box currently. I usually get mine from Amazon:

Or
The one I bought on Amazon is no longer available at this exact time (here) . I'm not sure when it will be available again but there are a few that look just as nice. I like the look of these, especially the fact they come with a variety of mm sizes. As a new quiller, it gives me some room to play around with.
If push comes to shove, my first half dozen projects were made with hand cut construction paper. Not as even, but just as fun and beautiful!
Happy quilling!
Yay! I got the cutting mat from hobby lobby and I actually already had the craft knife, but you can get that anywhere. I got the ruler from amazon. Hobby lobby and Michaels don’t have metal T rulers that are 12 inches long, I checked! This is the one I got on amazon (the picture shows that it’s 24 inches, but it is 12 inches) https://www.amazon.com/Lightweight-Aluminum-T-Square-Ruler-Size/dp/B000HEQMNI/ref=sr_1_25?keywords=Metal+12+inch+t+ruler&qid=1582688342&sr=8-25
This one doesn’t have as much dimension in the back, but I don’t think it’s worth four more dollars since either way you’ll have to prop your cutting mat up with paper. https://www.amazon.com/Alvin-Aluminum-Graduated-T-Square-ALT12/dp/B00EXAAHT2/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=Metal%2B12%2Binch%2Bt%2Bruler&qid=1582688621&sr=8-8&th=1
Yep, it’s this - JUYA Paper Quilling Set up to 42 Colors One Color and 100 Strips per Pack 3/5/7/10mm Width Available(42 Colors, Width 3mm) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073JB1FQF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VKXbEbB9DP80Z
Honestly, there isn't one. It all depends on how loose/tight you want your coil, there are a thousand different styles and personal tastes regarding this.
If you're looking for an art project with precise instructions and more structure, this book on amazon has step-by-step instructions on how to make designs detailing the exact length of strips to use for each element.
Yes! I painted 2 or 3 layers of PPA glue over the whole assembled piece. It dries matte and makes everything a bit more stiff.
A lot of people use them. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find one that shreds in my preferred width (1/8th inch) but this is one of the first things that comes up on amazon when you search for quilling supplies.
