The main partition will be formatted to one of the filesystems used by Linux, such as ext4, which isn't officially supported on MacOS.
You can do various hacky homebrew things to get MacOS to mount ext4 filesystems, but to be honest the cleanest and simplest way to transfer ROMs to the GPi will be over the network using SFTP.
This page on the Retropie site explains how to do that. You'll need an SCP program. I'm not a Mac user but I understand Cyberduck is good.
EDIT: I forgot that Retropie (and presumably therefore images based on it) supports samba too. So, you should also be able to do Go / Connect to Server ... in the Finder and connect to smb://retropie and then log in with whatever the default username and password are for the image you're using (image docs should tell you).
If you’re using retropie it includes a rom service that lets you plug a thumbdrive into the pi (using a usb otg adapter) that will first create the directory structure and then copy the roms from the thumbdrive to the pi.
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive/#automatic-mount-easiest-method
If you run the latest retroarch you get the new badge looking pop up. It's hard to read by default but this should help you set an appropriate notification size:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/26092/notification-font-size-for-retroflag-gpi/6?_=1596813885784
No..you will have to transfer all your roms..bios..configs etc to a different image based on the Pi you have. A Pi0/1 is totally different than a Pi 2/3. As you can see here : https://retropie.org.uk/download/ ..there are 2 diff downloads for diff versions of Pi's. There is a lot more involved..
I noticed the same thing after installing PCSX-ReARMed last night from source.
I've been looking into it but haven't got far.
I do know that a controller config has to be created for it but don't know exactly what buttons/numbers/ASCII to use in it right now.
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#pcsx-rearmed-controls
A workaround for the bluetooth keyboard: http://www.acrosscenter.com/ you can use a PC to act like a keyboard and send keystrokes to the GPi. It worked for me but was kind of a pain to setup and do it this way.
I don't know if you ever found a solution but the CanaKit wifi for the og Pi work fine, but slow (20Mb/s). Any USB wifi with plug and play seem to work fine, but be weary as some updated versions of hardware are no longer plug and play and require drivers. You'll need an OTG adapter of course, and I've been trying to find an OTG splitter without any luck so far.
Absolutely. That is what helps draw heat from the chip in the heatsink. Luckily those are easy to get.
This is a bit overkill, but you can cut out the different sizes to fit. The chips I would add to is the big silver one and the 2 biggest black squares. That will help a bunch.
If you're using the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 and have power issues with Recalbox, I cannot stress how important Lithium batteries are. The reason: They're able to provide a steady 1.5V per battery until they are depleted, unliked Alkaline and NiMH batteries.
The additional power requirement for booting Recalbox due to the Pi Zero 2 will make is so that, after a few boots, it is impossible to boot unless plugged in. Most users report that once is has been booted, it can be unplugged and used for hours.
Since switching to some EBL micro-USB rechargeable batteries I've been getting hours and hours of play-time with no problems booting Recalbox. These batteries also fully charge in under 2 hours so are worth the price, IMO. I haven't tested the full hours of playtime per charge but I did just use it quite a bit on a long weekend camping trip and let others play as well so must've been at least 4 hours-ish without issue.
There is that and two other settings to get headphones and a few other things working: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/28809/no-in-game-sound-after-the-dec-2020-raspberry-pi-os-updates/6
However, there are still performance issues with lr-fbneo and a few MAME-2000 roms; notably audio issues - even with the above settings being added. This issue is Buster specific but so far it only appears to be Arcade and PSX games that are having these issues. Sega CD just needs the video driver switched to Dispmax to fix the issue but that does not work for the former two emulators.
Hi friend,
I hope this isn't too late:
Add this to the first line in /boot/cmdline.txt
snd_bcm2835.enable_hdmi=1 snd_bcm2835.enable_headphones=1 snd_bcm2835.enable_compat_alsa=1
This will mimic the old audio which changed in May 2020. The new audio is more sensible but incompatible with the Retroflag GPI device-tree overlays.
And if you've upgraded you probably need to reinstall http://download.retroflag.com/Products/GPi_Case/GPi_Case_patch.zip to use their custom overlays.

I spent hours troubleshooting and googling for the answer. This works but at this point I just decided to go with Recalbox as it just works with minimal effort.
Hello, thanks for sharing. I do have a question, did it enable sound in Emulationstation or only in Games?
Because I found a easier method of removing the Error but still no sound in Emustation:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/26628/audio-issues-after-latest-raspbian-updates-june-2020
I think that I was able to fix this. The error message no longer appears for me.
I found this forum post that had some useful information in it: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/11256/failed-to-find-mixer-elements/11
I ran this command to get a list of the audio cards recognized by the system:
aplay -l
And found that my card was called this:
card 0: Headphones [bcm2835 Headphones], device 0: bcm2835 Headphones [bcm2835 Headphones]
Then I ran this command to get a list of the audio mixers recognized by the system:
amixer scontrols
And found that I had a single mixer called:
Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
So, there's a mismatch there in naming.
Then, I took a look at opt\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation\es_settings.cfg
and found these settings:
<string name="AudioCard" value="default" />
<string name="AudioDevice" value="HDMI" />
I changed the AudioDevice to this:
<string name="AudioDevice" value="Headphone" />
Save the file, restart the system, and no more error.
Yeah exactly that way, so go to RetroPie's website and right click the version for the Pi-Zero and copy the URL of the link, then you can just paste it right into Etcher and Etcher will download, extract and validate for you all in one step.
Its been a while since I setup networking on my GPi, but I believe the section titled "Connecting to Wifi Without a Keyboard (Raspbian Stretch)" in the RetroPie wiki should work. The URL is https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Wifi/#connecting-to-wifi-without-a-keyboard
--SN
I had this same problem and asked on the retropie forums. I documented my discovery precisely even with a value that worked for me:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/26092/notification-font-size-for-retroflag-gpi?_=1596813885784
You'll find the exact filename and a suggested value.
I’ve been experimenting with over locking to get Dreamcast working well on the GPi Case 2.
I’ve found this heatsink does the job for me.

I really appreciate this group and all the help it provides… I hope this helps someone out too.
And yes… I can put the cartridge case back on… just :-)
this is the image i am using: https://www.recalbox.com/download/stable/handheld/rpizero2gpicase
it should include all of the gpi stuff so not necessary to install any additional scripts.

They discuss this issue here:
Go to the firat comment from juchong
I used that comment to know where to place the file and he has a link there to actually get the file.
Are are you familiar with traversing the Linux terminal?
I'm trying to get ROMs onto my GPi Mate CM3+ and I don't have a wireless dongle, so I came across this page: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Transferring-Roms/ This seems to indicate Retropie supports ROM transfer from a USB Thumb Drive automatically. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like what you're asking about.
Hi, sorry for the late reply. You can turn the wifi on and off without rebooting using the commands
sudo ifconfig wlan0 down sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
You can use the runcommand onstart and onend scripts to run the commands as an emulator starts and when it quits.
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/#runcommand-onstart-and-runcommand-onend-scripts
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2192/turn-off-wifi-via-config-txt/3
This is part of it. If you disable it from /boot/config.txt then you have to restart.
There is a soft off/on that is easier to implement
I'm familiar with the Cloud Saves, would you mind detailing the difference in the safe shutdown script? Also could you explain what the savestate selector does? How is this different than just using the different save slots?

edit: Savestate Selector details: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/18978/script-setup-for-an-automatic-savestate-selector
It looks like it shows you screenshots of your saves and makes it easier to restore the one you want.
Which emulator core are you using? I know at least in Retroarch on PS Vita, the lr-gpsp core gives the best perfomance but requires the gba_bios.bin in the BIOS folder. I think lr-mgba may have some performance issues.
Edit: And of course I just tested lr-gpsp and it seems to be broken on Retropie 4.6.
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/25847/imame4all-lr-gpsp-don-t-work-on-retropie-4-6/2
is it this theme? https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/23116/retroflag-gpi-small-screen-super-retroboy-theme, super easy to install through terminal once connected to ssh.
Settings? Uh, flash a good pre-built image, and don’t worry too much about settings. I recommend The Super pi image. Then a nice es theme to tie it all together; https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/23116/retroflag-gpi-small-screen-super-retroboy-theme
I don't think the standard build for pi zero has a gba bios.
Donwload gba_bios.bin
Then follow the instructions on https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Game-Boy-Advance/ about putting it in the right folder
To hide the MOTD and autologin text on a v1 image, just perform those two changes as listed here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/16732/silence-and-appliance-ify-your-retropie-installation-i-e-make-it-startup-and-shutdown-like-a-console-updated-for-retropie-v4-4-8
And to get the new RetroBoyMKII theme, just update your theme_menu under gpi-tools, then it will have that option.
OK, it's listed as "Microsoft X-Box 360 pad" in the SDL controller database as well so it's pretty much take the config file from here:
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#pcsx-rearmed-controls
Basically create a /opt/retropie/configs/psx/pcsx/pcsx.cfg file that looks like this:
binddev = sdl:Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver (XBOX) bind backspace = Fast Forward bind \xA0 = player1 CROSS bind \xA1 = player1 SQUARE bind \xA2 = player1 CIRCLE bind \xA3 = player1 TRIANGLE bind \xA4 = player1 L1 bind \xA5 = player1 R1 bind \xA6 = player1 L2 bind \xA7 = player1 R2 bind \xA8 = player1 SELECT bind \xA9 = player1 START bind \xAA = Enter Menu bind \xAB = player1 L3 bind \xAC = player1 R3 bind \xAD = player1 LEFT bind \xAE = player1 RIGHT bind \xAF = player1 UP bind \xB0 = player1 DOWN bind up = player1 UP bind down = player1 DOWN bind right = player1 RIGHT bind left = player1 LEFT bind f1 = Save State bind f2 = Load State bind f3 = Prev Save Slot bind f4 = Next Save Slot bind f5 = Toggle Frameskip bind f7 = Show/Hide FPS bind f8 = Switch Renderer bind f11 = Toggle fullscreen bind f12 = Take Screenshot
That is an odd one. I haven't had that issue personally. But looking into it, I see that some people have had a similar issue that they were able to solve with editing:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/1801/solved-video-splash-screen-does-not-fully-play
> Remove the -b option for omxplayer in /etc/init.d/asplashscreen on line 39, so it now reads: omxplayer --layer 10000 "$line"
The only other things I can think to try are that the Video resolution may be too high, but this is only if you are trying to play a video with an HD resolution. Or maybe the overscan settings are too high, but this is changed by the GPi case patch, so unlikely.
Unfortunately, I do not know what is causing the issue you have. You could try the video I have to see if the issue is with the video you are trying, but otherwise I'm not sure.
It doesn't have an RTC, so battery backup of time while it off like a full sized computer. It has to sync with a time server. It was one of the earliest criticisms of the Pi, but also one of the first things modders added. I'm sure its doable, but might take modding the cartridge case, or printing your own to add an RTC shim. https://www.newark.com/piface/shim-rtc/add-on-board-real-time-clock-raspberry/dp/78X5849 This might do it, but you'd likely need to solder it to the pi. There might be some other options, but you might be cutting it so it looks like an old Prototype GB cart.
These are what I'm using:
https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-BK-3HCCA8BA-eneloop-Pre-Charged-Rechargeable/dp/B00MXCIK32
I'm using a Zero 2 W in my GPi case.
I have had success with http://www.acrosscenter.com/ using my PC to act like a bluetooth keyboard, but it's a paid app. There is a 30 minute trial, and still has some functionality after 30 mins. You can reboot to get another 30 minutes. (I bought it, and have been using the heck out of it).
It can boot with the DC adaptor, then run on batteries? (also, has it booted off batteries before?)
If so, try rebuilding and cleaning the cartridge/cartridge slot.
If it works now, great!

If that fails, reflash the micro sd card to the GPI case image at the link below - it is a lightweight image that works out of the box with the GPI case
If booting works now, then it is the Retropie image, which is an easy fix.

It is a little bit difficult to pinpoint exactly if it is hardware or an issue within your Retropie image, just follow the steps in that order and it hopefully will be an easy fix
http://www.lakka.tv/get/linux/rpi/

If all fails, then 100% contact customer support - it is not worth a DIY repair if it is new
here's the command I'm using to search for all .srm and .state files on my lakka image and then create a single .tar.gz.. I'm manually backing up this tar.gz to my google drive for now (I'll setup rclone (see rclone.org/drive) to do this automatically later)
find /storage -type f \( -name "*.srm" -o -name "*.state" \) -print0 | xargs -0 tar czvf /storage/backup/gpicase_saves_backup-`date +%F`.tar.gz
I've found the only ones that fit are the little copper plates. They do a good job though, I've got two GPi carts with those in them, both overclocked a decent amount, and they've been solid. They come in packs like this https://www.amazon.com/Raspberry-Heatsink-Conductive-Adhesive-Aluminum/dp/B07YR6M6F6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=raspberry+pi+4+copper+heatsink&qid=1632410509&sr=8-3
FYI for anyone who comes across this, you can buy the cart with the IO board separate from Amazon.
2-pack of the same on amazon for $6.99, perfect fit I bought it.
Ginsco 2-Pack (Black & Blue) Hard Carrying Case for Portable External Hard Drive Toshiba Canvio Basics Seagate Expansion WD Elements https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NW7PR68/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HNUsDbE6BE9ND
might be what caused the heat, but honestly it might not be worth risking it, ive been using these in mine https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E3DVQFS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
might cost more per battery but in the long run will save you money since you can just recharge them
Not to revive an old topic, but does anyone know if the 3S on this amazon page is the same chip that is used in this video?
On top of that, I got this case to hold my GPI Case Case, Portable Keyboard, USB SD Reader, Cables, Batteries, Extra GPI Cartidge (for Development), Powerbank, and Headphones.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074DWLK8P/
...No, that is silly. I don't have a obsession with cases....
I sent a question in to Retroflag this morning about this topic. I'll respond if/when I hear anything.
I suspect it's 2.0mm*0.7mm such as this one, but I'm not sure.
this one actually fits better after you trim one of the corners:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AW6QUQ4/
it's almost full coverage, maybe a 1mm on each side gap still.
I was going to get the Eneloop also but after some research I went for the Ladda, many people think they are actually the same battery. I'm still thinking of grabbing some to test out anyway.
I'm with you on the charger, I went with one that charges batteries individually and has a few other advanced options: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RSOV50/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ZQ3eDbW9FTYN1
In this video from Madlittlepixel he is using this digital camera screen protector. I ordered one for myself.
Thank you. I have this one and it doesn’t seem to send power to the Pi, AmazonBasics 4 Port USB to USB 3.0 Hub with 5V/2.5A power adapter.
I will take a look at these. I appreciate the help!
