Former teacher here,
I’m loving the career change. I love how much flexibility I have to change jobs if it becomes necessary or even just pick up well paid side work as I need.
I also had an unrelated undergrad degree, but I earned assistantships in my SHS department AND in another dept on campus. It’s do-able - you just have to market yourself well and compete hard for those spots.
Also, thought I’d share this book on Amazon: SLP To Be: An Unofficial Guide to Getting into Graduate School for Speech-Language Pathology https://www.amazon.com/dp/1730815073/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nZQ-Eb32K7K4P
Hey! Just wanna say I totally feel you. I'm trying to work, taking prerequisite courses, write personal statements, gain unpaid volunteer experience (which requires prep to lead workshops for people with communication disorders, etc). I bought a book called "Graduate Admissions Essays" and it includes tons of sample essays from people who got into really prestigious schools, along with tips and suggestions to get the create juices flowing.
Here's the link from Amazon if it helps https://www.amazon.ca/Graduate-Admissions-Essays-Fourth-School-ebook/dp/B0062OCMYA/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=grad+school+personal+statement&qid=1636728487&s=digital-text&sr=1-4 Graduate Admissions Essays, Fourth Edition: Write Your Way into the Graduate School of Your Choice (Graduate Admissions Essays: Write Your Way Into the)
Also, I'd be happy to look over your personal statement or exchange statements and offer any feedback, if you'd like. I applied last year (put all my eggs in one basket and only applied to ONE very competitive program) and am applying again this year.

Thank you so much for your interest! If you get one I hope it serves you some use!
I don’t have this size, but I love the brand. The entire bag is made of ice packs and can keep your food cold all day. PackIt Freezable Lunch Bag with Zip Closure, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HJ8DFGC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MG1GSSS9R7R5TD5RPZHV
may I also recommend a product like this one:

allows me to keep my ipad at eye level with a standing desk, or elevate while washing dishes or lying down. I have chronic neck issues and this is a life saver.
My speech neurology professor recommended the Netter’s Anatomy Coloring Book and I love mine! Netter’s has a few different books and I prefer the Anatomy over the Neuroscience one for speech stuff. Of course there is a lot more covered than the speech mechanisms but it helped me visualize the larynx since my teacher rarely used diagrams that were in relation to the body as a whole. You can find them on Amazon; here’s a link: Netter’s Anatomy Coloring Book Hope that helps!
I have no idea how much the VB bags are, but, piggybacking on what /u/marypoppinacap said about canvas totes, I have a few of these from Amazon. 10 bucks each and very tough.
My chromebooks were around $150 for the little one (11.6 inch screen) and $200 for the big one (15.6 inch screen). Both of mine are Acers. Spend a little more to get one with an Intel processor. Don't bother with the Rockchip processors. At that point, you're basically getting a phone with a keyboard and screen.
However, if you want to use Word and PowerPoint (which you will, a lot), but want to save money, you might be better off getting a Windows based machine. I had an HP stream that was basically like a Chromebook but ran Windows. Yes, you can open Word and PPT in Google Docs, and there's web-based Office, but I found the real version in Windows much easier to use.
I guess you could use your phone to record, but I'd be worried about killing my battery. I have a Sony digital recorder. It uses 2 AAA batteries, which lasted for 2-3 months, recording 8-10 hours of lecture per week, plus listening back to review after class.
