Hey! So I did some testing, and I came to the conclusion that it doesn't really matter what I use. But read -r var < /.../file
is faster than cat /.../file
so I'm going to use it even if it's really just marginal improvement.

Ah, I learned something today! Signals and whatnot are new to me, so thank you for putting me on to them. I read up on signal(7) and wow that's some very useful stuff. My updated baraction.sh is here if you want to take a look. The if statement I've included in function update
is an integrity check on the string being pushed, put there in order to counteract a problem with flickering during rapid updates that I experienced. Thanks again for your help.
skippy-xd does exactly that. Screenshot You need to be in the fullscreen mode: bind[cycle_layout] to [ ]

Gosh darn it..
This is supposedly fixed in the master branch, but there has been no release in over a year - I'll just set corner and shadow excludes and sit down. I'll notice when a new release is here :)
Thanks folks.
Yes, you need the git version. The formal release is prior to this commit,
https://github.com/conformal/spectrwm/commit/c84d46e82f0976eef60a734c63b4faafd55fb156
Prior to it SWM_CLASS was not defined for the bar.
