Is your brake fluid low? If you have some spare cash I suggest buying this OBD2 reader, it will scan every system on your car for errors and will greatly help with diagnosis https://www.amazon.ca/BlueDriver-Bluetooth-Professional-iPhone-Android/dp/B00652G4TS/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=bluedriver+obd2&qid=1607112650&sprefix=bluedriv&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEy...

go on sportrack.com look for the subaru legacy and you can find the style code on amazon for around $120
they were a little trick getting on as the clamps are super tight but they fit great
I use a Vgate ELM327 Bluetooth-based adapter (cheap blue eBay adapter) on an Android phone running Torque.
As those adapters are produced and sourced from random suppliers I'd do my research before choosing one: people like Scotty Kilmer are iffy about using any inexpensive OBD2 adapter.
I got this one recently for my ‘17. Should work on any car after ‘98 model year. And then downloaded an App called “OBD Fusion” < $40 total. Super easy to use.

cd player mount (when's the last time you used your cd player?) - it's sturdy and centrally placed. Similar to this.
Cool thanks maybe i will order it .
For the knob i got this :
Ramecar for Subaru ABS Carbon Fiber Gear Shift Knob Cover Trim for Subaru Forester 2019-2021, for Crosstrek 2018-2021, for Impreza 2017-2021, for Outback 2020 2021 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08L32VHQQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1DR57JQMKPQFMHWKCRYD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The chime disable should still work on a push button. You just might need to do it a few times to get the timing right.
Or just buy this: https://www.amazon.com/Clips-Safety-Accessories-Universal-Vehicle/dp/B0B4R7LR93/
inside the console! I installed this apple carplay radio in my 2010 legacy and i love it!
Happy to help. While the device does do FM Transmitting, I would recommend an aux cable (I used this $11 one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LM0U8M2 ). I need to get a USB-C extension cable so I can plug my phone in if I want, I accidentally got a 3 foot which wasn't long enough, so I don't have a recommendation for that yet.
The Blue Driver is the product that I was referring to. It works by plugging into the OBD2 port and communicates with an app on your phone! Something I need to pick up. There might be something better for Subaru's, but I'm not sure on the naturally aspirated side of things.
500k miles is definitely a lot! You're able to put the car through a LOT with that, so, that's amazing!
Not sure where I am mis-remembering, but i just confirmed your comment.

I’ll wait to hear from Subaru though. The hardware “looks” the same. Not sure if it actually is or not.
You need to define 'best'
Cheap
Get a Bluetooth FM transmitter. Plugs into cigarette lighter, connects to your phone via bluetooth and broadcasts FM signal you tune the radio to.
Gucci
Get a bracket like this if you don't have climate control there's a different one.
Then your choice of any Double DIN head unit, features go way up but BT is usually standard. I'd go with Android auto tbh.
> I like to do most of the maintenance on my cars, but I figure this is probably over my head.
You can confirm if you get something like this from local auto parts store. It will tell you if exhaust gases are in the coolant.
That is probably cheaper than getting compression test kit - but you can maybe hire those or a mate has one.
That will tell you for sure if it's not readily apparent your oil is a milkshake
The mounts have slots all over the back for flexible mounting. If I had fog lights, Id shift it right. Or not have it at all. This is the one I got, for what its worth: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QDT1YPF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .
Its a WRX model, but if you look at customer reviews it fits like shit on an actual WRX so Im guessing they get alot of returns, explaining the $13 open box one I got. Also the screws that mount the plate frame it comes with aren't long enough, so call it $14 for the screws I bought.
Sorry I don't have the answer but just wanted to caution you against using a flathead as that could damage your paint or dent your panel. There's super cheap (like $10) plastic trim removal kits you could get off Amazon or at Harbor Freight.
