I read Westad's The Cold War: A World History and it was excellent. It was really well written, too. Not too dry or dense.
When comparing upsets in chess and TS, one must also consider the huge drawing window in the former, comparing to almost nonexistent in the latter. Apart from the luck factor, this is another reason why it is so hard for a 400 points underdog to defeat the favourite in chess. However, achieving a draw against a world champion is a different animal entirely, like in the game below from 2 years ago:

Dear friends
I discovered twilight struggle a couple years ago and started this journey of trying to make a strategy boardgame set around the War on Syria (2012-2020).
It's called SYRAK WAR IN THE MIDDLE-EAST
It's on steam EA (Feb 14)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1613530/SYRAK_the_War_in_the_MiddleEast/
And android (available)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SAA.SYRAKFEB21
Hope you guys are interested
Let me know if you have any questions!!
Thanks
Sweet! Unfortunately I only play 45d games though; my partners and I usually finish them in a week, but I like the flexibility that async games give. Any thought on adding that in as a category of play?
Aside: I see that site is on WordPress.com, nice! I used to work there until very recently; feel free to let me know if you need any help with it.

Hi all,
I would like to contact my opponents whom I haven't played yet to have
a look at the following link. I used a simple questionnaire to
comfortably schedule our game - instead of the usual back-and-forth
mail scheduling, which is hugely inefficient. And I am bad at
answering on time :)

You can see my availability for the next +- 3 weeks. If our game is
not scheduled in the foreseeable future and there is no time that
suits you, no problem, I will send another link by the end of
february.
If you are not familiar with Doodle, it works like this: you fill in
your playdek name (add "RTSL" in the parentheses too please) and pick
one of the timeslot options that suit you. There are multiple time
slots a day, so if there is already somebody I am playing that day, I
would prefer if you could choose a different day, but I can manage 2
games a day max. The benefit is that the timezones are adjusted to
your IP, so you don't need to worry about converting to GMT.
Once you pick a slot, I get notified and I will be on time for our
game at the specified time. If anything changes on your or my side,
you can either change the selection and/or send me an email.
Hope this will make scheduling easier for all of us :)
Looking forwrd to our games. Happy to answer any questions here or in
private mail - let me know. Also, if I messed something up, let me
know
Best,
p111
I can't see it, and when I search for the developer "playdek" it isn't listed either.
