In my teens, my mum gave me a book written by a retired NY State Trooper called "A Speeders Guide to Avoiding Tickets". He very clearly outlines how important it is to inflate the officers Ego while doing everything you can to reduce his Fear.
Every cop has some level of these two. Picture them as gauges you need to balance out. If you make them fearful in any way or gods forbid - insult their ego, they go berserk, and can very well make your day or rest of your life end up pretty bad depending on the encounter! The book is still a great and useful read, despite technological advancements since it was written.

Reminds me of when Steve Jobs (???) and the other big mucked-mucks in Tech went to a white house dinner and got awards for their business acumen. Obama asked what it would take to bring those jobs back to the USA and whomever it was, replied that the jobs weren't coming back to the USA, period for that exact reason - Americans were too expensive.
