task manager
assuming you mean list of daily / weekly / sprint tasks assigned to you. (I use Agenda for this)
project manager
assuming you mean lists of tasks to complete a project with options to assign people and communicate with team. (I use Trello for this)
hope this helps, I know it’s hard to create a new app and try to meet expectations and features that other apps have, but still being unique and adding something new and useful to users
good luck!
>That being said I use KeepIt. it’s a bit pricier but I prefer the folders + tags + labels organization over the just tags. They’re very similar actually outside of that.
Never heard of KeepIt, but then realized it's the replacement for Together, which I previously used ages ago. I might have to check it out.
Like yourself, I like Bear, it's sleek and pretty, but it's also not exactly the best tool for my workflow. I have a lot of clients and a lot of tags. In Bear those essentially become the same thing since there's no way to organize by folders. So I've got to scroll two or three times just to get through my sidebar. It's awful.
Agenda gets me a little closer, but the markdown editor feels clumsy to me and, last I checked at least, I still couldn't open up a note in a separate window. I paid for that app for about two years but could never integrate it into my workflow and the development there feels about as sluggish as Bear — lots of plans and proposed features, but not a lot of actual updates.
Great article, Stepan!
I like your bit about Dropbox Paper (deep work FTW). The programmer’s workflow doesn’t really mesh with Things or GTD in general. I do something similar to you, except I use Agenda. Definitely check it out; from what I read I think you’d like it.
Whoa, there’s an app named after the feature you’re looking for, can’t believe it hasn’t been named yet: Agenda (https://agenda.com/). I’ve been using it across my iDevices and MacBooks for some time now, pricing is fair and for me it’s the perfect solution on all platforms :)
I checked them all so :
- Obsidian is just Markdown, and doesn't exist on IOS, no task manager :/
- Roam Research is same
- Same for Joplin
- Slite is limited to 100 notes, and have the same limitation I have with Notion : The PDF support and handfreenote.
- Evernote doesn't use markdown, nor latex support, so there are a lot more limitation.
The only app who fit my need is "Agenda", who doesn't exist on windows... (https://agenda.com/)
It sounds like you may like Agenda. It's not as great as NotePlan for tracking tasks, but does all of the date-related things you are looking for. I tend to use both apps, and move new tasks into NotePlan with a link back to the Agenda note
I use Agenda
A 2018 design award winner. It is very tidy and integrated with Apple’s Calendars and Reminders. It got app for both macOS and iOS with syncing via iCloud or Dropbox.
I’m not heavy note taker, but I’m also design-oriented and Agenda is just beautiful :-)
Yeah I'm trying to sync with my wife as well. For the moment, at least, I've given up on Bear and we're trying out Agenda. Although Agenda doesn't offer collaboration either, there is the ability to sync via Dropbox. So all we had to do was share the same Dropbox account and everything now syncs just fine.
It's not perfect, and I still prefer Bear, but I'm not going to sit around and wait until the Bear team decides to implement sync.
After a LOT of experimentation with different apps I settled for Agenda Notes. It syncs nicely between devices and the connection between your notes and the calendar is brilliant!
Only downside is Mac/IOS only, if that is not a problem you should give it a try!
Agenda looks cool and promising. I’m using it in parallel with Bear. Ability to properly group notes and schedule them makes me lean more towards Agenda. And looks like it has sub- and superscripts, not sure about tables.
