It isn't well known but Greg Kasavin of Bastion and way back in the day Gamespot fame has birthmark that just happens to be a valid QR code... I'm not saying where it links to or how to scan it, but it is worth it.
Bastion for both visual and audio effects. The art has an almost painted style, but with plenty of minute details that makes it anything but simple. Interesting graphics for a platformer.
>There is only a very small market for nuanced narrative games
Yeah, because as we all know, games with good storytelling always fail, and games with brainless shitty stories always succeed.
Read that to yourself again. Just stop, breathe, clear your mind of all things, and read that to yourself again. It's sounds stupid. It sounds really stupid.
Not all gamers want nothing more than brohans rubbing giant cockplates against each other while a pair of blow up dolls with brains scrabble about in the background, most of us really want a little bit more to our games. And fuck, even if Brohan DickArmour Adventures 12 : The Cockring sells like hotcakes, what is there to stop the writers of the game adding a bit of fucking depth to their characters - apart from the idiocy of their supervisors of course?
Seriously, this shit is fucking stupid, and I am genuinely confused as to why people continue to defend it.
It's a song in a game called Bastion, based on its story. I feel that a movie about the game/prequel spin-off movie would be pretty cool.
Finding an FPS that's less intense than Fallout or Bioshock isn't exactly easy. Half life would be a great place to start anyone off, though. It's a classic. You could always start her off on story mode with the original Halo, too. Once she plays some of those, it'll probably help with her ability to wield the controller.
Oh, and of course, Portal. You have to have her play Portal.
As for games that have a great story, but an easier learning curve, Bastion is one of the best games out there for that. It's not an FPS, but it's a damn good game with the kind of immersion and spectacle that'll keep anyone interested.
Build That Wall from the game Bastion. Honestly you have to play the game to get the full experience (which I definitely recommend doing) but it's still an amazing song.
My immediate reaction to this is to suggest Bastion. You really must try this game, it's a fantastic Indy game and I urge all to try it. The soundtrack is stunning, the visuals are arresting and the gameplay is excellent. It's on Xbox Live Arcade or on Steam.
If you want to get your teeth into a game then try Duex Ex: Human Revolution, which is an FPS but with a bit more depth/RPG elements. Stealthing optional but can be nice if you don't fancy going in all guns blazing.
I played one recently that was fantastic. Bastion by supergiant, its pretty simple as far as RPG's go but still crazy fun. I got my copy on xbox live arcade but i'm pretty sure it's available on pc and mac. The art style is really different http://supergiantgames.com/?page_id=242
