Better - made by Indie, who’re super active and outspoken in privacy activism.
Firefox Focus - uses the Disconnect list, I believe.
I find this combination, along with my Pi-hole on my home network, to work well enough.
Ouep ! La Caisse d'Épargne c'est le niveau au dessus encore ! Avec un adblocker, une belle erreur JS dans la console :
> Uncaught TypeError: window.utag is undefined
Utag est déposé par Tealium:
> “Tealium is an American company… that sells enterprise tag management and marketing software.”

There's an app called 'Better' for Safari and iOS--it costs a couple of dollars, but is the best I've found for successfully handling sites which try to detect and intercept visitors that use ad blockers.
EDIT: added a link
For JavaScript based uBlock Origin is the go to, download it from the link below as it has the latest update just note you'll have to manually check for updates.
https://github.com/el1t/uBlock-Safari/releases
Not really needed since uBlock Origin is a tool powerful by itself but I like to support a good ethical product optimized for Safari... in this case I use "Better Blocker".
(You can get rid of Adblock Plus as well since you'll be replacing it with uBlock Origin.)
hi, im also new at this. i can't seem to add better.fyi or even like an adguard list. when I add the filter list link, nebulo says "Rules from this source: 0" and I'm sure I copy-pasted the list link properly
I clicked on the lock icon near the website url, and noticed a list of cookies.
Some from imrworldwide.com which I find out is aka Neilsen Online and uses web beacons.
#cookiestories 😲🍪
rfihub and emxdgt are both ad companies:
Rocket Fuel (rfihub.com) | Better
EMX Digital (emxdgt.com) | Better
While it could be a sign of adware, it's a lot more likely that you're just encountering ads and trackers while surfing the interwebs. Are you using any ad blocking extensions? If so, what?
I looked into different options when I switched from Chrome and this is the one I liked the most.
It’s open-source and allowed me to set it the same way I had uBlock Origin on Chrome.
I also really like Better for the ease of use, but it’s less customizable.
I'd say you might be a power user. I've never used private mode and I have no idea what you mean by logging in with multiple accounts. That's not to dismiss or forgive Apple from not keeping up with current technologies though.
>when I'm in private mode, I log in with another account (because there's no tab containers/groups like Firefox's, where you can have multiple accounts opened at the same time) and if I try to open some link of the site in a new tab, I lose my session because cookies are not share.
Isn't the point of private mode to sandbox your actions in one browser tab?
I just visited html5test.com and Safari got 492 out of 555. That doesn't seem horrendous to me. Although, it does seem to rank lower than other browsers.
There are definitely <em>some</em> extensions. I use Better Blocker for privacy and ad blocking and I use NewsGuard to show me if a news site is garbage or not.
For me, a casual(?) web user, Safari does everything I need. It feels really fast and I've never encountered a broken website.

« Better does not block respectful ads. »
My point of view on ads is that, by definition, it is made to annoy people about things we don’t care about. So for me « respectful » and « ads » does not belong to the same sentence, never. That makes Better not for me.
Also you point Ghostery to be bad because they sell personal data. If my understanding is correct the company who owned Ghostery at that time sold it. The new owner does not do that anymore, it was some years ago I believe.
Regarding AdBlock Plus you say they have an acceptable ads policy and that’s bad. But what’s the difference with you not blocking « respectable ads » ? And also I believe in AdBlock Plus you can toggle a switch in the options to deactivate « allow acceptable ads » (I would have to double check for that option, not sure if it still exist so feel free to correct me on that).
Also I’m trying to find your privacy policy, what you do with personal informations and can’t find it (to be fair I’m in a rush right now and had « only » 5mn to look for it).
Anyone here try Better?
I was running it on iOS and it did the job fine for me. I've transferred the adblock lists from their source repo over to adblock on FF for my Android phone.
Um, Android apps, Netflix, online-shopping is a part of all the stuff I was talking about. The problem is much bigger than old-time TV ads and it remains even if you use uBlock or other stuff to block YouTube ads (which you should still do! Parents should require that all computers their kids use are running uBlock in Firefox or similar or Better for iOS… )
Good points! That is indeed worse. Ugh
Skipping the whole discussion of problems with iOS overall, I'll keep recommending Better to those who do use iOS while recommending the real Firefox for those on desktops and Android.
Maybe? Wow, are you saying that iOS really isn't ad-focused anymore?? At least not from Apple? I know they started allowing ad-blocking apps like Better but I assumed that was just blocking other ads in browsers while pushing Apple's own ad system.
I will be really impressed if Apple is truly rejecting surveillance capitalism and ad-focused stuff in general (even though they had a hand historically in promoting that direction on mobile). I know Apple does a lot of things better for privacy than Google already.
So, with iAd gone, what's the situation for "free" apps and such? Isn't the App Store still filled with ad-driven apps? Do those apps just have to use outside ad networks? (Maybe that's even worse…?)
Found this ( https://better.fyi/ )just recently thanks to another user of this sub. I love the reasons why they do business and their product seems to be pretty good.
If, for whatever reason, Disconnect Pro becomes unavailable, I'll switch right over to these guys.
For now, I use Disconnect Pro and Brave browser to thwart as many ads as possible.
