something like this would be a start http://www.clockingit.com/
also something like team speak is much more effective than individual messenger counterparts when they can typically handle 50+ people through audio w/o any issues for hours at a time.
Grey, After talking about SCRUM and you talking about being productive as a robot, it would be really nice if you share some of your research or opinions on the topic.
If anyone else want to share a opinion it would also be greatly appreciated.
You could use http://www.libreplan.org/ for this.
The setup process might be a bit more work, but you can manage drivers and trucks as ressources and add them to tasks (routes).
Starting and destination locations could either be mapped as annotations or subtasks.
If spending some money is no issue, you could use a hosted solution, eliminating the need to set it up yourself.
However, if your spending money you could also look into more specialized logistics solutions.
Alternatively you could take a look at http://www.clockingit.com, its main focus is time tracking, but it has an interactive Gantt diagram for planning/ scheduling, is hosted, free and multiuser (http://www.clockingit.com/screenshots), so you should be able to map the available features to drivers and trucks (maybe you'd have to model your trucks as 'special' users, but should work)
The source code is unmaintained and floats around on github, but it a fully working product. It hard to get up on your own OS, and there is a fork jobworth.
But their hosting of cit been running forever, and you can export your db.
ClockingIt, but it has not been updated in a long time and you struggle to find the source code, but it is open source and you can download your database if you use their free hosting service. It does have gantt charts.
It's replacement is Jobsworth but you will need some tech skill to setup tomcat. I don't know if it has gantt chart but it was originally forked from cit.
We use ClockingIT and I highly recommend it. It's OSS Ruby on Rails. Rails being the framework of choice since it is used to implement BaseCamp.
You can setup a free online Clocking IT account. I especially love the GNATT chart feature since it makes planning deadlines very easy. Here is a feature overview.
ClockingIT focuses on the project management, and collaboration side of time tracking rather then the billing side. I use QuickBooks Pro to manage billing since it integrates into my bank and credit card accounts.
After some searching for self hosted open source time tracking/invoicing applications I found: http://www.clockingit.com and http://www.kimai.org/en/
Anyone have experiences with the two. I'll give them a go later :)
Clocking IT is a mature full featured and FREE solution for project management. It has a GNATT chart, milestones and auto prioritization functionality. Built in Wiki, Forum, IM Chat.
I have it setup so clients can login and see the progress made on their projects only while protecting the privacy of my other clients.
DropBox is not a good way to keep project files in sync. You really need to setup a revision control system. I suggest SVN as it's pretty easy to use. GIT is smaller, faster, and more complicated. If you don't want to setup SVN (not recommended) use FTP to a webhost.
