Construct 3 Free has a limit of 25 events. That's the left side of an if-then statement. For example "if spriteA hits spriteB". Each event can have any number of actions following it. But having only 25 events is really limiting, you can't do very much.
Construct 2 Free is still available. It has a limit of 100 events. People can make some nice games with that limit. So you can download that and try it out. scirra.com/construct2/releases
Also be sure to google "2020 list of free 2d game engines" and read through several articles, there are dozens of less famous systems to try.
I think they made Construct 2 free now that they have 3. You cam use that if you want, but that only works on windows. I think you should try the free version of 3 and see how it goes. https://www.scirra.com/construct2/releases/r279/download
Construct 2 is probably the best free option. It keeps running forever and has a limit of 100 events (very generous).

Construct 3 has a lower event limit (25). You can try that but it's easy to run out of space. That's why Construct 2 is better if you need something free. And GameMaker is very popular, but the free trial runs out after 1 month.
Is there a good way to keep up with news and features on C3? The Twitter is great but lots of re-tweets mean its hard to find actual news, and the blog doesn't seem to get updated very often. I used to check the C2 releases page for new features but can't find an equivalent page for C3.
I believe you can install an older version by using this: https://www.scirra.com/construct2/releases/r195
If you change the directory, you can keep an older version is C2 as well as whichever primary version you use. You will also have to role back the version of C2 attached to your project, but I'm unsure how to do that. I believe it's a variable somewhere in the project files you can just tweak to r195.
