I uploaded a capx (complete project file) to this URL http://www.filedropper.com/charlookup
here's a screenshot of the code section: screenshot
The idea is that when you set the animations, you check if the Character's own custom 'lookup' instance variable is set. If it is, then you add "_lookup" to the end of the animation.
I used the mouse to control the looking up in the uploaded project. If the mouse is above the character's head, he looks up. The animation changes are checked every single tick to see if there needs to be a new one.
EDIT: The code with the '?'s are called ternary operations. It is basically a yes or no, true or false operation that will let you choose one answer or the other depending on the 'yes' or 'no'. In numbers, if the question is zero, then the answer is NO. If it's anything else (a positive number, a negative number, even 0.000001) it will return YES. If your statement is true, the first value is picked. If NO, the second. The first and second values are separated by the ":" character. Example:
Char.lookup ? "I am looking up" : "not looking up" if the mouse is above, then this will output "I am looking up"
0 < 5 ? "Zero is smaller" : "Zero is NOT smaller" this will output "Zero is smaller"
10-5-5 ? "Something" : "Nothing" this will output "Nothing", because 10-5-5 =0, and a Zero counts as False/NO.
Yes, it is sort of possible I have made a stickman type rag-doll setup but sadly couldn't figure out a nice way for the character to be fully dynamic (stand up by himself) and is attached to a platformer box and the physics is constrained to that so he won't fall over. Most of my attempts made the character too floaty and would act too erraticly however I haven't touched that project in a while I planned to swap the physics system out for this Chipmunk Physics plugin
Also here is the demo of my game.

Plays okay. Sound works. My big fat thumbs make it hard to see someone coming with the controls on the play field.
I believe you can install an older version by using this: https://www.scirra.com/construct2/releases/r195
If you change the directory, you can keep an older version is C2 as well as whichever primary version you use. You will also have to role back the version of C2 attached to your project, but I'm unsure how to do that. I believe it's a variable somewhere in the project files you can just tweak to r195.
This is the game in question, the stars and decorations are bullets
PS. Sorry in advance the game stills half in Spanish and the tutorial is awful and outdated
