I had to find something for the same amount of images. I'm the SharePoint guy at work but I could not find anything that would make it user friendly.
There is a lot of info in the exif data and I wanted something that could use that.
In the end I went with http://daminion.net/
This is a stand alone client-server image library with lots of metadata options.
As /u/mooglinux said, you probably want a better DAM solution than Lightroom, but you can do what you're proposing with LR.
Keeping the source images on the network is no problem, but LR doesn't want catalog files on a network drive. However, if you use something like Dropbox or Google Drive to share the catalog file you (and the other users) can all use the same catalog locally and have updates synced to the other users automatically. The only downside I can think of would be trying to use the catalog between multiple users simultaneously.
EDIT: I did a bit of poking around and found Daminion which might suit your needs. Lots of filtering features, tagging, everything you'd expect from a DAM. You can share XMP sidecar files between both Lightroom and Daminion if you prefer to use LR for ingestion and Daminion for organization/searching. It is Windows only however.
Hi! I'm from a company that develops an on-premise software, so all of our clients (most of them are marketing and communication agencies) use Intranet.
The main reason is security - all your digital content (documents, photos, video, etc) remains behind your company's firewall. Internet based solutions make sense when the most of the employees work in the office (not remotely).
By the way, our software allows quickly finding necessary files, photos, etc. You can join our free webinar to see it in action: http://daminion.net/
I love Lightroom, but it does not work well for multiple users. Multi-user is one of the biggest sources of complaints and feature requests for LR. Apparently it is not an easy problem because most Lightroom competitors don't support it either.
There is one product called Daminion that you might look into because it is specifically designed to be multi-user. Also, maybe you could do it by sharing a Mylio account with your wife, but I am not a Mylio user so I don't know how well that would really work.
Hey man I appreciate the advice but I decided to not be lazy as do some research and ended up finding this : http://daminion.net/download All I had to do was email it to myself and get it on the computer. It turns out that even sent pictures/videos retain their original metadata and I was able to get gps coordinates but thanks for your effort
Ok, it sounds like what you're after is multi-user Digital Asset Management (DAM) software, Daminion looks like it might do what you want but it might not have raw support. There's plenty of others out there worth looking at, the search term you want is "multi user DAM". What's your budget for this? since most solutions that do what you want are fairly specialized commercial software a 30 user license could cost quite a bit unless you can get an educational discount.
