Not exactly what you are looking for, but Double Commander (which I can totally recommend) has a list of recently visited folders. You can activate it with Alt + down or Ctrl + h.
For a while I used DoubleCommander. https://doublecmd.sourceforge.io/
It has some of the features of DOpus. But unfortunately the stability is not very good. Also the update intervals are not high enough for me. It would be a pity to use it with the right functional extensions. I guess I'll have to wait a little longer. Maybe i should visit the site and look what is changed in the last 16 Months :)
I searched for Total Commander for Linux replacement since about 2003 - among others I used Krusader but it always had issues.
Few years ago I discovered Double Commander and my search has ended. It's perfect. (it helps that it's essentially TC clone, down to compatible plugins)
There's also Krusader which is also QT based but I feel like Double Commander has more features. It can also be extended with plugins like Free/Total Commander.
Total Commander - It's "free" as long as you're OK to press "the correct one" out of 3 buttons when you start it. I got it running all day, every day. If that wouldn't qualify in this thread I recommend alternatives like :
https://doublecmd.sourceforge.io/ Is this what you mean ? Couldn't find Dual Commander. It supports all those Total Commander plugins and is free too. I have used XY Explorer for most things for many years and hoped to find it too supports those plugins but alas looks like it dos not. Anyway thanks for tip , looks like another good file manager to add to arsenal.
I don't know what you're trying to do, but Finder + terminal have been treating me well for a few years.
I googled what you said and found a few things, like Double Command and Commander one however that was from 2016, the list I found. I'd google some more if you'd like to find something newer
> Do any of you use apps to auto rename files in Linux (uvuntu) If so what?
I'm not sure if this qualifies, but Double Commander is a free cross platform open source file manager with two panels side by side. It is inspired by Total Commander and features some new ideas. It includes a graphical "Multi-rename tool" with preview of pending changes that I have used a few times.
