Firefox is mostly free but they don't allow using their name and logo in modified builds so that's why it has been renamed to "Fennec" in F-Droid
Sorry for offtopic but as you are talking about privacy, I would suggest not to use chrome. Google is adding more and more ways to track users in chrome. They recently added Floc. Some alternatives that I would suggest are: * Bromite (available only for android) * Firefox (on all platforms) * Fennec/iceraven (forks of firefox for android) * Brave (on all platforms)
If you want literally an alternative Firefox, try if GNU IceCatMobile (based on Firefox ESR) or Fennec (more recent vesion, officially packaged by Mozilla) builds work better.
You can use Fennec from F-Droid and use addons. Create a collection and add the addons that you want.
If the option doesn't show go to Settings -> About Fennec, and tap on "Fennec F-Droid" till unlock "developer tools"
Setup your collection ID, when you add addons you need go to collection settings and tap OK to refresh.
Some addons don't work on mobile.
Most apps from the Play Store should work fine on CalyxOS thanks to MicroG, but some apps may not work correctly (often because they require access to Google's proprietary SafetyNet servers for security, which can only be provided by official Google services). Plexus is a great community-made resource that you can use to see which apps will have issues or be unusable.
As far as I know, there are no browsers that have issues running on CalyxOS. No problem here!
Personally, I like to use Fennec (a fork of Firefox that removes the telemetry and other proprietary pieces) with Ublock Origin, NoScript, and Decentraleyes for most browsing and Bromite or the Chromium browser built into CalyxOS when I want to log in to something. You could also try out Brave if you wanted to.
Hope this helps!
> Have you considered using the Aurora store with the guest login? > > It would be far more convenient for you.
I used to, but ceased since Aurora is incapable of automatically checking for updates on my device and due to the Google Play's rolling release cycle. I use \Fennec F-Droid - https://f-droid.org/packages/org.mozilla.fennec_fdroid for now.
People should start using Fennec F-Droid. Despite the name, it's based on the last stable version of Fenix.
With Fennec F-Droid, you can use about:config
without having to use use Beta or Nightly releases.
For me, Fennec seems to be a little faster than normal Firefox on Android, but still not as fast as my Chromium browsers (Bromite and Vanadium).
Might be worth a shot? It's available on F-droid.
Whale isn't open source. If you really care about your privacy you should move away from Whale.
I recommend you a great privacy respectingbrowser, fully free and open source software, with all telemetry removed, avaible on F-Droid: Fennec F-Droid. Based on latest Firefox, it's secure while removing all Mozilla's trash
Fennec F-Droid is a browser based on latest Firefox release. It's focused on removing any proprietary bits found in official Mozilla's builds. Also it has "about:config" and supports Firefox addons. https://f-droid.org/packages/org.mozilla.fennec_fdroid
You can turn them off manually from the browser, and if you still don't trust Mozilla Use Fennec Frdoid. It's basically Firefox without all those telemetry and data collection.
Pale Moon on desktop because it's the only truly independent browser out there that is neither Chrome nor controlled opposition to Chrome, and actually respects your privacy without any sort of tracking or unwanted 3rd party integration out of the box, and without any bullshit justifications of 'you can always turn off those settings'. It is also fully customizable in every way, the way Firefox used to be once upon a time before they started copying Chrome's UI and switched to shitty web extensions.
On Android I use Fennec, which is based on mobile Firefox but with built in tracking castrated.
I don't really care about sync between mobile and PC - I primarily use a desktop and the phone is just for occasional looking up something - so the fact that Pale Moon doesn't offer a mobile version anymore doesn't bother me.
