Firefox is mostly free but they don't allow using their name and logo in modified builds so that's why it has been renamed to "Fennec" in F-Droid
>Browsers such as Fennec and Mull require access to my phone's shared storage, recording audio/video/pictures, having full network access, using biometric hardware, etc
Browsers always require a wide variety of permissions to work. Browsers are an app ecosystem in themselves, and the browser needs all the permissions required to perform those functions.
Shared storage: it can't download anything if it doesn't have this.
Recording audio/video: requirement for teleconferencing like Zoom
Full network access: it's a browser. Its very purpose is network access.
> and others like iceraven and bromite are nowhere to be found.
In order to appear in the main repo, they have to be able to build in F-Droid's build system. From what I understand, Chromium can't do that. I don't know about Ice Raven. Bromite DOES have its own F-Droid repository.
NewPipe works quite well. Unfortunately, Youtube changes its APIs quite abruptly, so it occasionally stops working, and the Updates in FDroid are lagging a bit behind, but NewPipe has an FDroid repository of their own, which gets the updates faster.
You shold checkout Fennec (org.mozilla.fennec
). Apparently there are some binaries in the official build. From the Wiki ( https://f-droid.org/wiki/page/org.mozilla.fennec_fdroid ):
>This is a developer build based on the latest org.mozilla.firefox release. It's focused on removing any proprietary binaries used in the official builds.
I don't know any on F-Droid that work. But on the Play Stores I would look at the following two.
Pretty sure this one is FOSS: Collabora Office
Not sure if this one is, although definitely based on FOSS: AndrOpen Office
Collabora isn't available through the official F-Droid repository. You probably enabled the 3rd party repo from here: https://www.collaboraoffice.com/releases-en/collabora-office-on-mobiles-supporting-password-protected-documents-and-available-on-f-droid/
I guess they simply rebuild the app daily, and that's why you get daily updates. Doesn't mean anything changed, though.
Edit: After taking a closer look you probably installed the "Collabora Office 6.4 Snapshot" instead of "Collabora Office 6.4". The latter only gets updates every few months.
it's available in Guardian Project repo
Guardian Project Official App Repository > This is our F-Droid app repository for the official, trusted builds of our apps. There are three ways to access this repo, via an HTTPS connection to our main site, via a Tor Hidden Service, or via an Amazon AWS S3 "Bucket":
this is tutorial from F-Droid about How to Add Repo - https://f-droid.org/en/tutorials/add-repo/
F-droid is pretty heavily curated, with each app on the repo compiled from source by the F-droid dev team.
The FAQ has some further information, as does their security model page. This ongoing thread focused on the delay of updates appearing in the F-droid repo has some additional points on F-droid's approach.
Don't give up on Open Street Map. Once you get used to setting your beginning and end locations, it has a lot of info (side trips, walks, bike paths, ...). It may feel counterintuitive at first, but soon gets easier. Look at a video tutorial or two.
You can block ads and trackers in your browsers and apps without installing any application. On Android 9 and above, You just have to go to :
Settings - > Wifi & Internet - > Private DNS
Select "Private DNS provider hostname" and type
dns.adguard.com or p2.freedns.controld.com or
dot-de.blahdns.com You should also check out https://NextDNS.io, which allows customized blocklists
https://signal.org/android/apk/
Scroll down on the page, they seem to want to discourage people from doing this.
FWIW, all the reasons they (or rather Moxie) cites for not making it available in F-Droid could be addressed by having Signal publish a F-Droid repository people could just add to their F-Droid apps. But I don't think that will ever happen.
Also, FWIW I installed and keep my copy up to date using Yalp. And I've got microG installed so my copy is using GCM. So the information I have about it running without play services is from what I've read not first hand experience.
I have only done this on Calyx and Graphene but I'm sure it should work on Google Android.
Go here and scroll down to danger zone to grab it. Then install and it'll prompt to allow updates.
I use SMS Backup+ for that. Although it primarily backs up text messages to IMAP, in the settings there's a (well hidden) option to log calls to any calendar synced to your phone. Mine are logged to a Nextcloud calendar using Davdroid, should work with any caldav install.
Add a comment you can reproduce the bug on issue 3218 on Github with version number and details of your device.
It's fixed on version 6.5, f-droid will likely approve it in next few days. Alternatively, you can download the code from Github and make the app yourself to fix it immediately.
They are open source; the F-Droid team can compile them and provide them for free. Conversations, free on F-Droid, is the first example that springs to mind. This is allowed by open source licenses, although it is of course better if the app's author is happy with it: sometimes they are, because with Play, they have to pay some money ($25 when I checked long ago) to publish the app on that proprietary store in the first place, while with F-Droid, they don't.
In theory both Ghost commander and Amaze work with SAMBA. I've had lots of trouble with actually tranferring files with Amaze unfortunately (because it's very nice otherwise), but Ghostcommander has worked well.
Decide what you need . If its calendar just go to alternativeto.net type in calendar or type in the one you already use and when you get results click on filter and select opensource and android and then check those apps on fdroid PS: better to type in exact app name you use or which is used by everyone so you can get more results
If you are able to flash the F-Droid privledged extension update.zip then F-Droid will do exactly this.
If you are not able to do this, then "Automatically download updates" will do as you wish. Note in the new 0.103-alpha we have renamed this to "Automatically fetch updates - Updates are downloaded automatically and you are notified to install them". The goal is to help ease confusion around the fact that "Downloading updates" in Google Play means "Installing Updates", whereas in (unpriviledged F-Droid) it means "Fetch from the internet but don't install automatically".
You might like to read F-Droid's inclusion policy first in the wiki.
You have the information about how to include apps in F-Droid's inclusion how to wiki page.
I've never tried but found this FOSS:
https://alternativeto.net/software/encore-music/about/
Also there's SoundHound, but it's not Open Source.
VLC is decent enough
One version on F-Droid is outdated, the other one is beta and crashes, but I trust the 1.7.5 on the official VLC website until F-Droid has the next stable.
Also Timber looks very modern (screenshots on github) and features a complete material theme. Shame it does not support opus codec yet, then it would be my favourite player.
Mycroft is an active well-supported FOSS voice assistant project that's worth checking out. Unfortunately, Android implementation is still very preliminary, not even close to being ready for general use (they focused initially on PC/laptop, RPis, and dedicated devices). Still worth knowing that someone is, at least, trying.
Bromite, because it is simple, privacy focused, open source and the developer is very active and responds to issues.
You'll have to add his F-Droid rep, because it's not on standard F-Droid. <strong>F-Droid rep link at bottom of page</strong>.
This sounds like it is conflating general "I wish Android backup and restore had a better experience" with "I want F-Droid to take command up system snapshots on mutation" which represents a vastly different level of effort to fix.
If you have root on your device, Titanium Backup has been the gold standard in my life for dealing with per-app backup and restore
BTW, one can verify that the backups are encrypted: <code>abe.jar</code> will extract an unencrypted backup, but will vomit if given an encrypted one or when provided with the wrong backup passphrase
There's a repository you can add to F-Droid for it. I've successfully used it for viewing/editing excel and word docs.
I typically use Librera for viewing PDF's, though, there are a lot of options on F-Droid for PDFs.
The newer versions are Beta, not a Release so bugs and features are expected to not work properly. The latest release is the one F-droid recommends, personally I use Fairmail until they fix Google Auth and IMAP issues. More on their webpage
If you want to install proprietary software you should stick with Google Play. Alternatives are much less secure and are the source of most of Android's malware.
I've converted to all F-Droid and you learn to either find workarounds (RSS feed vs news app) or go without. It's a personal decision and since everyone has different wants, needs, and comfort levels what works for some people may not work for others.
Personally, I think banking on a phone is not a good idea even with FOSS. There is an app Bankdroid (F-Droid, Play) which claims to support Swedish banks, that may provide some functionality for you. Although, I have no comment on the app's quality, trustworthiness, or security.
If you want your bank to provide another method of apk distribution you should ask them directly. First party sources are the best option if seeking apps not on F-Droid.
You can use
Regarding your comment on streaming : Both of them supports it
Yes, KnownVuln and DisabledAlgorithm are rather commonplace anti-features, but apparently not so grave in themselves that they disqualify apps from being in the official F-droid repos? That's why I guessed that a lack of updates in tandem with those could set off a warning, but I'm just another user.
You can see explanations of anti-features on the F-droid wiki – as you can see from that page, 1300+ apps are flagged with the two mentioned above, out of <1500 flagged apps total, so they're quite widespread.
Hmmm. You are correct, the link to https://f-droid.org/FDroid.apk does return 403 forbidden.
Try going to https://f-droid.org/packages/org.fdroid.fdroid/ where you can see various versions of F-Droid and see if you can't download a version. I tried and was able to download several different versions.
FAQ: "Packages built by F-Droid are signed by F-Droid, so all apps in the official F-Droid repo are signed by F-Droid keys. F-Droid will generate a new key for each app that is included."
I use TImber it look modern and polished. Has nice basic features.
Vanilla Music too is a good music player with a good set of features. It doesn't look as good as Timber but still looks fine and modern.
Orfox (from the Guardian Project repository).
Oh and of course, the Hypotoad Live Wallpaper.
Firefox is a good gentle step, or Firefox Focus. As well as this: " https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.DAA.appchoices ". And tor couldn't hurt either, lol. If you're going to get root you could add AfFirewall+ to the list as well. Maybe even AuroraStore or F-Droid too? xD The list goes on, welcome to the community and Android Ecosystem. :)
I installed the flatpak version listed here, and there is by default no search engine, with Google not included at all (though you can probably add it manually)
Might you be referring to this?
https://github.com/rumboalla/apkupdater
If so, I read something about Google changing things on their side, and apk updater has not been updated in a few months so it's going to have problems fetching updates from there.
Just turn off Play Store in your sources list (I'd also turn off Aptoide and Apkpure because security reasons), force close the app, and refresh. Hope this helps.
Check this out. I have been using it for a few weeks and it seems to work pretty well, except for stuff like Hangouts. I just installed Google Voice and the Conversations app on F-Droid separately to solve that issue.
For tasks/todos there is https://tasks.org/
(Plus I use https://www.etesync.com/ to backup and sync em.)
For notes, I use Trello - I'll be happy to hear about alternative as well.
I basically need FOSS Trello fork :D, because Trello is (apart not being FOSS) awesome.
It's not really laziness as posting on reddit is actually more effort than clicking on the link to the K9 website, but it is certainly annoying to see this kind of post. Did you do ANY form of research before asking it here?
Firefox 92.1.1 has been released to Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox&hl=en_US&gl=US
Mozilla's website download section must be slightly behind, or perhaps it's an old link.
I just turned on NordVPN and tried it Aurora fails to verify the session. I used it earlier this morning with no VPN and it worked fine.
I turned on KeepSolid (aka Unlimited) VPN. Aurora worked OK. But I'm not totally sold on the security of that one.
I turned on Calyx VPN and Aurora works.
I have a couple of DNS changers (HostsGo, NextDNS) and Aurora still works OK.
I tried Nord several more times, this time picking server locations (cities, not individual servers). I finally got Aurora to work after about 5 tries.
Conclusion? I don't know. Hit or miss? Possibly
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.BodyTrac
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.agiletelescope.chatjournal
I couldn't find anything through f droid. I downloaded these two from aurora store. No ads, no account registration, and good classy shark scans.
The first one has nice before/after picture features but I like chat journal for notes on workouts and soreness.
Try to set on your devices and/or router. And/Or even better a good VPN (Windscribe that has a free tier, or Mullvad,.... for instance).
F-Droid app is slow sometimes, but not that way. Website also? Seems your Internet connection is having some problems. An encrypted DNS or VPN may help on that.
IzzyOnDroid is very interesting. But better you check the thread I mentioned for your particular interests.
Battle for Wesnoth has an Android port on Google Play but not on F-droid yet.
I've been trying to also get the imgurViewer (can also display instagram and other websites) into fdroid..but the dev was busy otherwise I think.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ensoft.imgurviewer
I can't find anything of the sort in any of the F-Droid repos.
There is this, which bills itself as "AndrOpen Office is the world's first port of OpenOffice for Android. (You can view, edit, insert and export office documents using full features of the OpenOffice)", seems active (last update was yesterday), and at least seems to have some source code available here. Whether it's all open source or not, I can't tell. And I have no idea how well it works either.
Edit: I tried installing the AndrOpen Office app, but when I ran it, it seemed to get stuck "Opening OpenOffice". This may be particular to my device though.
There is Text Fairy that is open source but not on f-droid, on f-droid you can find Open Note Scanner. Honestly I've used Text Fairy just twice and never used Open Note Scanner so I don't know how they are in comparison with CamScanner.
For messaging consider adding Matrix which also allows you to self host your own federated server. For Matrix there are multiple clients to choose for, Element is the most feature rich.
For offline music Vanilla Music is my personal favorite and AFAIK one of the most popular.
It's important to mention that both Mullvad and ProtonVPN provide DNS based tracker/ad/malware blocking.
Last but not least. If you are using Nextcloud you really want to use DAVx^5 for allowing you to sync your contacts, calendar and tasks.
I recently had some success stringing together TrackerControl with a personal Wireguard VPN by using a SOCKS5 proxy.
This discussion on the TC github page is a good discussion on the subject and has a couple of specific posts going over how to do it.
Based on what they're saying, if you want to connect to a VPN service like Mullvad you have to do TC and the SOCKS5 proxy in combination with a work profile. But the later how-to on connecting to your personal Wireguard instance at home worked fine for me.
I have to connect the SOCKS5 proxy first, then enable it in TC. Works fine but sometimes the proxy loses connection and has to be reset. It's also a pain to enable the proxy in TC. Instead I installed two versions of TC (one from github, one from fdroid), gave them the same settings other than one has the proxy enabled. This allows me to quickly switch TC instances.
It is not directly from the devs, meaning the fdroid official repository does not distribute upstream binary. Instead they build everything from source after applying a handful of patches.
You will find patches applied to the ProtonVPN app in the fdrois data repository:
Also, fdroid builds are almost all entirely reproducible, so you may either build the app yourself locally and check that the generates binary is identical to the one being distributed, or you can trust that other canary build servers are doing this and would raise a flag, should an fdroid build look illegitimate.
But I believe more in the decentralized ecosystem Utopia p2p. This is an innovative mesh messenger that has been popular for many years among users who value their security. In addition, the developers announced the release of a mobile beta version https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=is.u.utopia , which allows you to use the application not only on a PC, which is very convenient.
>Hi all. So any app I have downloaded from Playstore that is also available on Fdroid, I should delete and redownload on Fdroid?
well that depends if it's the same version of the app. some are the same on the google play store and f-droid (Showly, Geometric Weather) and some are different (Tasks.org, Osmand)
>
Is every app on Playstore also available on Fdroid or not yet?
No, F-droid only allows FOSS (free and open-source) software. Some F-droid apps are available on Play Store as well, in some cases it's the same app and sometimes it's a different version. Non-foss apps from Play Store are not available on f-droid
I use Hermit to create web browser dedicated apps. You can customize them the way you want, and still have the privacy control that is lacking in most dedicated apps.
i just downloaded the latest from here https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/mozilla/firefox-focus-private-browser/firefox-focus-private-browser-9-0-release/
Sounds like it is the quickest way to update it these days.
I tried to look it up but couldn't find anything. Can you give me a link or something? As others mentioned here, Tox is available on F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/packages/com.zoffcc.applications.trifa/
Can I suggest Budget for the list?
It's amazing at being simple and clean if all you are looking for is something to keep your balances in check.
there was an update released on the official New Pipe web site, 0.21.16. as far as I know the update hasn't been released in the F-Droid repository yet. only problem I had was I had to uninstall 0.21.15 before I could install APK because any previous attempts gave me a failed to install message.
What a minute, shit. I forgot all about this. Even though as far as I know you can't use your phone to control your fire stick in the cool and unique way -----------> This unique script can. It's still pretty cool to know about and try out.
APKPure has served me well before, and their apps matched the expected signature and they didn't pirate paid apps unlike some of the Aptoide repositories, but obviously I can't guarantee they won't pull some trick or have breaches (can we guarantee that about APKMirror, though?), and I haven't used it lately since when I've needed to, I've used Aurora Store instead. I can see they currently have this XAPK business, which would require their app, but I also see that many apps come with simple APKs, so I'm guessing XAPK is their own format to provide "app bundles" for those apps that require them.
I have found this old issue in their issue queue: https://github.com/PaulWoitaschek/Voice/issues/699
Maybe that folder is empty or Voice is not recogniting the files in it for some reason.
Try adding something else, some other mp3 or mp4 file or directory with it.
>There is a star rating on each app. Where does the data for this come from?
I had the same question! Did you check out the FAQ on GitLab? Here's an excerpt:
>Essentially if you look at the F-Droid data you can extract and extrapolate things like: > > * time between software updates > * age of the software > * amount of screenshots > > Following the source-link that F-Droid provides one can also access the source repo and get metrics: > > * amount of code changes code life time > * contributors races > * half-life of code blocks > * ratio of abstract classes to normal classes > * many other git, code and java metrics > > Following the website that F-Droid provides one can also access the ratings that others provide on the upstream (github, gitlab, sourceforge, ...). There you can also, find amount of open bugs, average time to fix a bug or even determine abandoned project. > > And then all of it can be done for each app in the F-Droid repo and compared with each other. Doing all these things manually is very cumbersome so G-Droid assists in that, to provide a better user experience.
> And no. The data does not come from G-Droid users as there is (and will be) no tracking in the app. And is doesn't come from other stores, as that would be irrelevant information and mostly spam that has been bought for money (eg. in Googles play store).
Sure this is a work-in-progress (not sure how far along), and personal opinion, but have to say I find the new website - and in particular the landing page - far less clean than the present one.
Jumped the bandwagon and joined Mastodon, and figured I'd try the app off f-droid. However, I get
>Download unsuccessful
followed by
>https://f-droid.org/repo/com.keylesspalace.tusky_8.apk https://f-droid.org/repo/com.keylesspalace.tusky_8.apk
Is something wrong on the server side, or is it me?
Well i use imagepipe and fast photo tagger, imagepipe is on fdroid but the other one osn't so here is the ggl play version
gpg --verify Fdroid.apk.asc Fdroid.apk
Or the easiest way, you can verify the f-droid PGP key through any browser on your computer or phone through APK pure.
Diary by Josep Portella
Magnificent in its simplicity of concept and flawless in execution, it only wants a couple of tweaks, a sprinklette of update jujj here and there to make it perfect.
The design is enchantingly redolent of dear old Windows 2.
It's my most-used app, my constant companion. I use it to keep track of my medications. Much more sedated-user-friendly than Calendula or those horrid Excel file things.
I hope some kind nerd will make a fork...
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=jpf.android.diary
This is more suited to tablets, but Krita is available on Android. It's a beta version. It's interface is not tailored to Android in any way.
https://krita.org/en/item/first-krita-beta-for-android-and-chromeos-in-play-store/
Aptoide, yalp store, apkmirror, etc
Here's some links to alternatives I'd suggest installing some and find which works best for you
I have the same problem... and the professional account section does not appear without Google Play Services in the Microsoft Authenticator app. Any alternative?
I found this 😰
https://github.com/andOTP/andOTP/issues/374
https://github.com/freeotp/freeotp-android/issues/109
You can find a list of all bridged F-Droid repos here: https://codeberg.org/mondstern/F-Droid-Paketquellen/wiki/SkyDroid
Clicking one of the links on your Android device when SkyDroid is installed will automatically add and open the collection in SkyDroid.
Let me know if you are missing an F-Droid repo on the list.
> The app from the website is auto-updating so it checks for new versions and notifies you but you'll still need to click install manually
So if I download the apk directly, it will download the update by itself but it still needs user input to install the update it just downloaded? That's not a problem if I get notifications for updates.
Another noteworthy thing regarding Geometric Weather is that it contains proprietary libraries to interface with China-only location services:
https://github.com/WangDaYeeeeee/GeometricWeather/tree/master/app/libs/arm64-v8a
A fork is available here which has the China libararies, weather providers and location providers stripped:
https://gitlab.com/YBinnenweg/winnieweather
That still leaves you with Accuweather though. If OpenWeatherMap is any better you could try to implement your own weather provider, Geometric Weather supports multiple weather backends by default (it's really quite a nifty app).
With all of that said, Geometric Weather looks absolutely stunning, has nice widgets available and is surely worth a look!
Not sure if it applies to the strict definition of FOSS… but the license is:
GNU LESSER GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 3, 29 June 2007
https://github.com/WangDaYeeeeee/GeometricWeather/blob/master/README.md
I recommend avoiding startpage because its now owned by an ad company, I recommend using whoogle which does exactly what you're looking for you can host your own instance or use other peoples, The one I use is https://søk.bentebent.no/ but if you're looking to host it here's the github https://github.com/benbusby/whoogle-search
Taken from the README.MD from the repository for Aurora Droid:
>Why does this even need the camera permissions?
>Many repositories provide a QR code for their links and AuroraDroid can scan them directly. If you don't want to use this feature, you don't need to give it permissions. You can always add links by hand.
So this is what I see after downloading all the updates. How do you select? Long press has no effect.
Are you sure your device isnt rooted?
For example, this page says > Updates are not automatic for non root users You have to click the updates one-by-one in order to make them happen.
Thanks for your time.

it's not on F-droid anymore, because the app has support for the closed source ANT+ sensors, but RunnerUp is pretty good. There are configurable audio cues, configurable training with intervals, support for various accounts. Te interface is a bit old but functional
I am going to add
https://gadgetbridge.org/
It is an excellent FOSS app for all sorts of fitness bands and watches.
But I have not used it in a while, does it work with any GPS equipment now?
I noticed that the paid pro version of stericson.busybox promises "additional support for Magisk". I don't want to try blindly even if the pro version is GSF-independent and Google happens to have just locked my account, potentially due to using Aurora store and Raccoon.
> I just tried installing it. Whenbi tap on privacy policy it crashes! Hmmm. It also wants internet permission.
It doesn't crash for me, you can find it here https://github.com/TheRedSpy15/LTECleanerFOSS
You can study the code and report to F-Droid if you find something bad. Also you can just block it through a firewall / vpn-based-firewall (Netguard)
> is it going to kill any it finds, like some i've dl'd, or only those in system folders?
After tapping "Clean" it asks you if you want to analize first or delete, it has white-lists.
I somehow managed to fix this and another issue I had with delayed Google push notifications on the VPN in one go. Here's what everything I did (not exactly sure what fixed it)
My theory is that the culprit of these two issues is the fact that I unregistered some apps from GCM in MicroG and that somehow broke stuff, but I don't really know why it would do something like that.
F-Droid contains SUSI.AI which is a FOSS assistant, although by default it uses a public server that you share data with, but I believe the server software is open source too. You should be able to use it with Kõnele.
Mycroft is a more established open-source assistant, also requiring a server, but its Android version is experimental and not yet in F-Droid.
If you just open different things on each device, e.g. a PDF on your tablet and a word processor on your desktop, then Barrier lets you use the same mouse and keyboard across both devices.
Unfortunately, this sub is still small and you will get better help over at the actual F-Droid forums. But take a look at this from the F-Droid Wiki; it appears you will have to post in their submission queue to be considered for inclusion.
I recently moved to FAST: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=fast&fdid=org.ligi.fast
Is rather "unconventional", but I have a pretty old device and figured that it would work better than a normal launcher.
And I have to say that it's simply excellent. I somehow feel more efficient, I think I'm just wasting less time on the home screen now.
Give it a try if you are brave enough ;)
(I know it's probably not what you are looking for, but there are not many FOSS launchers :/ )
Are you sure about this? Forum posts can be somewhat unreliable, and the official download page says "Plays all files, in all formats, like the classic VLC."
Thanks.
Virustotal didn't detect anything.
But there's a link to this page that someone left https://www.joesandbox.com/analysis/446422/0/html
And there the apk (I guess someone else uploaded it) is marked as malicious.
Doesn't do Credit Cards but does point/club cards. Haven't seen one that does credit cards. I use Bitwarden for them.
You can have a look at the Known Repos page in the f-droid wiki.
I use IzzyOnDroid's repo and the Bromite Repo.
Note that if you have an SSH access to your parent's computer, you can run scrcpy on your computer to mirror their remote device (plugged on their computer).
OK, I think I found one. Its called scrcpy: https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy
This works with Windows/Linux/Mac and does not require any APK to be installed on your android.
Just works over USB-debugging.
They try to force you down that road, yes. But in the end their implementation is also just based on the default TOTP algorithm. They just try to hide it by using letters in addition to numbers to encode the tokens.
In addition to that you have to extract your accounts "shared secret" manually to enter it in 3rd-party apps, which is not really straightforward.
In case it helps it improve more steadily, I donate a small amount of money to NewPipe monthly through their LiberaPay account, which is a rather convenient way, especially if one has SEPA transfers free.
> Do you not infringem reddit copyright by using the name in the github repository name?
I don't think so, it's expected that forking an open source project will retain the repo name. Using "Reddit" as the site name or in the url is a different matter.
> How is saidit being financed?
It is community supported and is seeking donations and volunteers for code and design: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/37r/welcome_to_saiditnet/
> How would it make money in case it grows a lot?
Good question but it will not be through ads. There is a big focus on keeping service costs down and not spending excessively. Offering browser mining as a means of supporting the site has been discussed.
I'm searching for the same thing. All the apps need an account or API keys. I'm just looking for something that scrapes the website
But in the meantime I found this https://nitter.net/about
You can use it to create RSS feeds for users, and then add the feeds in an RSS reader
