This x 1000. Every digital solution I have tried for organizing what's on my mind has failed. A big part of it is probably that I don't use any mobile devices and I would be separated from it whenever I'm not at home or work. But still, nothing has been better than just writing stuff down, copying it down again in a more organized fashion and crossing things out when they're done. Sometimes I open the text editor for brainstorming and just write lines with ideas on them too, but if it's worth keeping I'll at least email it to myself and leave it in my inbox until I either give up on the idea or take further action.
I clean out my inbox about once a month so I will always get to it by then even if I've been ignoring it.
That said, it brings to mind a couple of email reminder websites that might fit in this thread - followup.cc and followupthen that let you email yourself reading reminders via a bookmarklet, or make entries that will be emailed to you at a later time. I don't really trust a third party to not go out of business and leave me hanging with all my data gone, so I use neither, but I like the idea and I think it would be a really useful feature integrated right into the email client.
Here are a couple things you could try:
Be accountable to your future self. Use http://www.followupthen.com to write emails to yourself three weeks in the future. Your future self is the one who your actions will affect the most.
Be accountable to /r/NoFap. Get a day counter badge here: http://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=badgebot&subject=nofap&message=YYYY-MM-DD . Post daily updates. There are daily update threads (example:http://www.reddit.com/r/NoFap/comments/199ni7/official_february_26th_update_thread/ ) where you can tell us how you are doing each day.
