The reason it is so big is because it includes all of the previous updates using a new compression method. After installing this massive update the game will actually take up less hdd space and future updates should be much smaller in download size.
I feel so played for even buying the Season Pass.
3 characters unique characters, Vintage skins (sarcastic whoopee), and 20 boxes which gave me mostly bounties (like crumbs from the bottom of a bag) .
Apparently maps will be free.
I mostly paid $46.00 for early access.
I've played the game since the 7th, and have yet to unlock anything. I have almost 5,000 credits which will be gone in 2 seconds for basically nothing.
No, I won't be getting into scrapping everything I just unlocked for 20, or 120 points, when everything costs like 300-600 points to make.
What kind of cell phone app B/S is this ? I paid for a finished product, not a scrap booking project. WTF, Coalition?
Seriously gonna read up on the next release before I pre-order or buy. If they pull this credit, scrapping shit again, I won't be buying the sequel.
I also love how the reviews I watched, failed to mentioned anything of the system. Or how the devs were not too anxious to talk about it.

Its gotta be hell of you're a fan of the EnVy org, you must despise OpTic.
They were going to pick up Formal & Crim, but due to backlash, they decided to drop Formal instead, leading to OpTic gaining what essentially became the greatest dynasty in CoD history, that nV could of bad.
Top tier Halo team. Second only to CLG. OpTic? They barely can qualify for Wor- annnnd they bought CLG. Now they own a two time World Champions Halo Team.
CS:GO. Pick up former LDLC. European squad. Win a major. Things are great, OpTic isn't even in CS:GO.

EnVy's CS:GO team is a shell of it's former self.. Meanwhile, OpTic picked up a tier 3 NA team at the beginning of the year, and now have won the biggest tournament a NA team has ever won, Fucking Eleague, which was broadcasted on television.

Seriously. We really fuck EnVy a ton. No wonder Hastro is so pissed at us.
Before someone tells you to git gud, I'd like to point out that there is a post on the forums with video proof of took guys testing shots out in a private matches that shows how your shot doesn't really fire even though the animation shows that you do along with blood coming out of your opponent. You shoot but do not damage and consume no ammo.
Looks like The Coalition is investigating it already.

To be fair...
People were really happy when they made "official announcements" on twitter, or when they made that thread stating some things they're looking into.
Most people don't have the time to "research" and skim through posts to see if anything is going on. When we're getting 99% of updates about stuff like this through replies in threads, or in twitter chains that most people don't see, it doesn't exactly help them out.
The transparency that we got from that Forum Post was fantastic. Unfortunately, there isn't a 'high rate' of responses like this.
I don't care if they can't say exactly what they're doing, and I know it's going to take time to implement some stuff. But having posts like this, or some of the replies that they've had are nice things...to show that we can expect changes in the future. Individual replies are nice, but public posts go a LOT further.
I don't know the perfect solution, but I know that quite a few people are disappointed in the amount of transparency we currently have.
Except a lot of people, and I mean a lot of people aren't legitimately having problems. They have been abusive with their messaging.
They will all tell you BS about being innocent, but the proof is when you look at their chart. High report of others, and high number of reported incidents including messaging.

I disagree. Gears 2 had some great moments, like riding the Brumak and killing the giant worm, but it also had the weakest final boss (Lambent Brumak) and unclear direction when it came to the Myrrah and the Sires.
Gears 3 is the best campaign, in my opinion. It ties everything together nicely, and had pulled some serious emotions when it came to Dom and then with Adam Fenix.

As a huge Gears of War fan, I would recommend Rise of the Tomb Raider. Really enjoyed my time with it. If you're interested in Gears, wait for Gears of War 4 (comes out October) when most of the community moves over to it. Buying Gears 4 will also net you all the 360 Gears games through Back Compat.
Gears is the Dark Souls of multiplayer shooters. It has a steep learning curve, but is really rewarding once you figure it out. There's not too many weapons, and the weapons themselves aren't complex to use. Everyone starts a match with the same loadout, and weapons can only be swapped at weapon spawns or with a teammate. It's mostly the mechanics of movement... Gears is pretty unusual in a world full of one-shot FPS. Rifles take the better part of a clip to down an enemy, and then you have to finish them off. Shotguns and power weapons will do the job in one shot... if you take advantage of the way they work. But the movement is different. You need to use cover, and there's no real way to accurately describe the total cover mechanic in this game and how it applies to multiplayer... you just have to learn it.

What about The Coalition, who made Gears 4? One of the most optimized games I've played in recent years, and the devs added an advanced benchmark feature, a crazy amount of graphics settings, plus a big performance guide pre-launch.
Or even Black Ops III. Could have been just a port with the same features as the console version minus split-screen as usual, but Treyarch's PC dev team also added split-screen to the PC version in all modes, plus they added map tools, modding, a server browser, and custom dedicated servers.
Horde would count as co-op multiplayer since it's not competitive. I'll try and find a source, but I'm 99% certain they said no to competitive MP.

It's so complicated I'm reluctant to even start. It makes overwatch godsend when i decide to play it because they throw lootboxes at you all the time for everything but here it goes.
In gears 4 there are different type of loot boxes, versus 400 credits/$1 (gives you bounties to set each game to accomplish a goal for xp), horde 400/$1 (more bountys but for horde mode only), operations 800/$2 (chance at customizable items like overwatch), elite 2000/$5 (higher chance at rarer items) and then the filthy monthly one weekend only community packs, 400 to 2000 credits. The drops on these are crazy and meant to exhaust your credits so you buy.
You have to buy the loot boxes with credits you can earn for each game win or lose 60 to 130 credits. You get 500 credits every 5 levels I think. You can earn some credits by completing rare bountys.
You only get loot boxes free when you reup (the military term for prestige). Thus every 100 levels.
Then there's scrap when you drop duplicates like overwatch, you get scrap for it to actually buy what you want. That system is very stingy but hopefully they fix it in the next game.
Then they have the esports supporter packs for 10 bucks a pop only. For a chance at a character skin and there's still regular launch game stuff in them.
There's been so much complaining that they've readjusted the packs since release for better but it's don't enough. I cant recall much else do some searching on the r/gearsofwar sub and you'll see.
If you think that's impressive, The Coalition released a very thorough blog for Gears of War 4 before release, explaining graphics settings, expected framerate, and benchmarks for different setups. Link

I booted up each game this weekend to compare the shotgun spread between the games. I used Gridlock as my map since it is in every game and used 3 reference points on the map to show the difference between the Gnasher generations.
The close range shot is taken from the flowerbeds on the docks. The midrange shot is taken from the sniper tower wall to wall, The far shot is taken on the freeway spawn wall to wall.
To keep the distances consistent, I backed my character all the way against the wall in each reference area and shot a round. Then I took a picture of the damage from each, transferred the images to GIMP, and highlighted each hole with a different color. I tried to make sure the walls lined up in gimp so that the picture sizes didn't effect the highlighting.

EDIT 2: I'd imagine they will be going to Obey/ALG/GGEA or maybe even "OpTic International" devision which is odd as I thought Gears would be against Multi Owned teams but I cant seem to find anything about it in the rules for "GEARS PRO CIRCUIT LAS VEGAS OPEN RULES AND FORMAT"

Technically, the UE lighting/textures are far superior. Also, as explained in the first Remaster video, there are story elements that are not included that should have been had there been more time to do so.

Admittedly, the soft yellow lighting of the UE, as opposed to the gray "lighting" of the original is as much a matter of preference as it is improvement. I am so used to Casablanca in black and white, I think it would be difficult to embrace that movie in color. That is a legit concern for those who are opposed to the changes.

The people who have registered on the website have not had codes sent to them. Only "Legacy" players have had the codes sent. These are players who:
Have an Xbox Live Gold account in "good standing"
You have to have played Gears 1, 2, 3 and judgment and logged into Xbox Live on an Xbox One Console before April 2015.
Otherwise you should not yet have any codes.
That being said, I should meet the Legacy requirements and I haven't gotten a code yet either.

Practice and become extremely accurate with the gnasher. You'll need to learn how to properly wall bounce and pull off reaction shots. Watch some of the streams from past events and see how the current pros play. Join a team and scrim whenever you have the chance. Just practice practice practice until you have mastered the mechanics of Gears 4.
I know I may receive some negative feedback for this, but Gears is a very easy game to move from novice to pro in less than a year if you dedicate enough time.

Microsoft Operations had an issue this morning with their code drop and unfortunately the codes will not be distributed in chronological order as originally messaged. The shotgun spread on the firing is significantly smaller so it makes the game very hard to hit despite it looks like you should.

You just need to complete a single match, you won't get a notification.
It is exactly how it works. You're ranking is mainly based on whether you won or lost a match, your individual performance is factored in but to a lesser degree.
Edit: Read here. So TC says they factor them evenly, but still goes to show that it's not just based on individual performance, but your win/loss ratio as well.
Do not buy the Season Pass unless you are willing to risk not getting half of the content.
A lot of players, myself included, are reporting that the Season Pass is missing all of the packs, including the skins, characters, and the gears packs.
Oh, and Dev wont respond to complaints.

Last week Octus said that the dev team is looking at ways to "bring back old Gear Packs for fans to have more opportunities to get the content they want."
I want another crack at the UIR packs myself. I only bought two at the time.
The new weekly DLC will probably stop in the fall, and when it does, maybe they'll start rotating old packs in and out. Recycle.
The dev's response is: Get good.
They're opening up crossplay in ranked already because they saw no difference in PC/Console skill level. Maybe the PC has a higher average skill level, but the top end is about the same.
Or you can just disable being matched with PC players.
The Coalition have already detailed some of the stuff they're doing in their One X patch, and it includes higher res textures, fully-dynamic and more detailed shadows, better volumetric lighting, improved reflections, longer draw distances, and more polygonal detail, in addition to the native 4k rendering.
TC may have not priotized legacy characters in their initial scope of post-launch DLC till fans started advocated it in the weeks prior to launch. We just have to wait, we're all aching for the return of theses characters and by their track record in regards to the detail on these characters IMO, it will be worth the wait.
I logged into the GearsofWar website and the packs were ready to be opened. They should show up in your packs in the game or on the website as long as you played the game last year.
Crossplay is enabled for Horde and Campaign. And at the moment it's enabled for versus through a special event which is going to last until January 4th.
But they are looking to make it permanent since it had a lot of positive responses during a test weekend just a couple of weeks ago.
In the meantime you can buy it and play it with your friends for 2+ Weeks.
I have a 970, and it runs it very, very well. It's probably the most optimised game I've experienced in the past couple of years. The devs wrote a very detailed performance guide about it, and specifies what to expect from a 970.

Amazon has the Warbird Gnasher. It looks pretty good. Here's a thread listing all the pre-order bonuses. I'm kind of ashamed to admit, but I pre-ordered from 2 different places to get the bonuses. I am part of the problem. Haha.

I disagree. Some remasters just improve the overall performance of the game. With the Ultimate Edition, they went back through the original game and rebuilt all the assets and cinematics. Plus, they added the campaign content from the PC version, 60 FPS multiplayer on dedicated servers, and added some game modes too.

1) Nostalgia for those that have played through it years ago.
2) Those that have never played a Gears of War game can use this one as an introduction to the universe, especially since Gears of War 4 is releasing this year.
Why play the original when you can not only play the Ultimate Edition with updated visuals / performance, but also play a game that is likely to be more populated than the 9 year version?
Yes. UE itself is just the first game remastered, albeit sprinkled with some different multiplayer elements from 3 and the PC-exclusive bits of story from 1. The "includes the entire trilogy" is the digital entitlement to the 360 versions on Xbox One that I mentioned above. This is all subject to change I'm sure by the time UE comes to PC(I hope it does as well, 2/3/Judgement on PC would be great), but this is all that has been announced thus far.

Q: I seem to be getting matched up with higher/lower level players, is matchmaking working?
A: Please note that the matchmaking system works on SKILL-based matchmaking and does not use the visible XP ranks to match-make. However, it does take several games for the system to determine your "skill-based rank". After players play a few games they will be matched according to their skill. Some players may be a high XP rank but have low skill and vice versa, so that is why it may appear to not be matchmaking you correctly -- however the system should properly match you based on skill after a few initial games.

They did announce a 2015 holiday release date originally on their announcement post by Jack and they later amended it.
Thats why everyone was saying 2015. It was announced and then later silently changed.

Although the aiming works exactly the same between Gears of War 1 and Gears of War UE, there are some inconsistencies in terms of damage/spread and some other bugs going on. We are looking into this to make it more consistent and skillful. Please note that there is also a bug with the reporting of the shotgun kills that shows headshot shotgun kills when they are actually body kills. We are looking into this as well.

Apparently, the add-ons carrying over to Gears 4 was an error. It's been fixed on the store now.

This post TC post covers everything. There is two types of rank. Your background ELO and your in game rank (silver,gold,onxy) and your in game rank can not surpass your background ELO.
If you are stuck its bucz its where u belong as an individual. You need to keep performing well to make your ELO go up. Winning and losing doesnt matter as much for your ELO. Just do well.
The ranking system is more based around your performance and who you're going against then it is about winning straight out. Then if you do average or bad especially when against lower rank players it hits ur background ELO hard.
Im not implying ur being carried but in this game u cant be bronze, group with a stack of diamonds, win a bunch, and go up to diomond. You have to individualy preform like a diamond for an extended period of time to make your ELO rise.

the gnasher in the Gears Of War series has become the meta in all the iterations because of it's power and agility and you really need to learn to use it if you want to stand a chance in versus but when you learn to control it you feel unstoppable ( there's an intense science analysis behind it in competitive play the devs update that gun every month)
but also there's the sawed-off in gears 3 which is one of the most hated guns in the series history because it turned the gnasher skill into a joke in versus since you don't even need to aim to kill everything standing in front of you but that was what made it feel so good (specially because firing it came with a big BOOM that was really satisfying)
but then how do you 1-up it in gears 4? making it a quad-barrell auto shotgun named the OVERKILL with an extremely fast rate of fire that shreds anything when it's close enough (even in horde when fully damage upgraded it can quickly kill any boss in less than a minute)
