Indeed. The effect depends much on the algorithm you use for scaling the zoomed pictures.
Try it with a program like geeqie that allows you to choose from different algorithms (bilinear, etc) when zooming.
For most algorithms you don't get any cool effects.
geeqie is the successor to gqview.
I use it to prune raw files (I believe it's reading the embedded preview jpg) by ripping through and adding marks (1-4
), then selecting and deleting afterward (ctrl+1
, del
). I suspect it's pre-loading files since it is extremely fast when switching between high-res images. Geeqie is definitely capable of more advanced features, but that's my primary use case so far.
> For example when I dig through image files and use thumbnails to decide which I want to move or copy where. A GUI file manager like PCManFM is still the best tool for this job in my opinion
I usually use Geeqie to deal with images - another program the functionality of which can be extended via scripts. I haven't had to use that feature yet - apparently it works similarly to PCManFM, but the desktop file can be created right in Geeqie and assigned to a keybind (see http://www.geeqie.org/help/GuideImageManagementPlugins.html).
For anything beyond actual identical files I found http://www.geeqie.org/ to be quite useful. Should be available in your repository. You can adjust your percentage for getting the result you are looking for.
Perhaps as an alternative to digikam: Geeqie is super fast and groups image and sidecar files together. It's my favorite tool, when browsing through a larger stack of images.
While not a CLI app, I like <code>geeqie</code> for processing/renaming multitudes of files. It's easy to tag a bunch of similar files, and then rename them all, as well as bulk-add metadata like tags or descriptions.
I installed Geeqie from the Linux Mint Software Manager and the version currently available is 1.4. I tried downloading the latest version from http://www.geeqie.org/ by selecting "Linux Mint" from the distro selection box and I'm taken to
https://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/gqview
I then click on the "Install" button and a pop-up is displayed that says "Package 'gqview' is virtual and it stops right there. Is there another way I can install 1.5 on Linux Mint?
TIA!
