Yeah, but it opens a brand new page in a brand new tab. Not really necessary for taking short plain text notes. Incidentally, they also have Google Notebook, but it's also not really necessary to have a whole new app for the simplest of note taking.
> but if that cheap laptop fails, I would lose data and note-taking ability, which is a pretty big deal, even if it is only a week's-worth of inconvenience. I know there are preventative measures to data-loss, but if the laptop fails, I can't haul the desktop in to class can I?
You mean you might have to use (gasp) a pen and paper? What is this, the stone age? Haha I'm kidding.
At the end of the day, all the manufacturer's use basically the same components, so given a large enough sample pool, their failure rates become very similar. Of course a botique's website is going to market it like they put a higher attention to detail into the products, and I'm not saying they don't, but no technology is 100% reliable. What happens when your $1400 laptop fails? Then you're completely out of commission. It is a Windows system after all, and as much as I love Windows 7, it isn't a shining beacon of reliability. Store your music/movie/games on an external, and take your notes in Google Notebook and data loss should be a non-issue.
After looking at that Transformer Prime, I think I might have to buy me one. 18 hours of battery life? Capable of playing games? Touch pad mouse+keyboard attachment? I realize it costs as much as a laptop but damn that thing is sexy, especially if they'll let you put Windows 8 on it when that comes out later this year. edit: SKYRIM! Check this shit out! I realize you need a desktop too, but damn, that's cool.
I also have a big list of quotes and excerpts from the web I was keeping before Google Notebook went extinct. Check it out, there are some good aha-moments in there.
