Austrian Death Machine
artist pic
> Austrian Death Machine is a thrash metal/metalcore side project from San Diego, California. ADM is founded by As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis as a parody band and as a tribute to the movies of actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Lambesis writes and records all the music playing guitar, bass, and drums as well as the majority of the vocals, leaving Destroy the Runner vocalist Chad Ackerman (portraying "Ahhhnold") to perform Schwarzenegger like vocals. The only thing Lambesis or Ackerman do not record are the guitar solos in every song which are performed by various guitarists from other bands. Lambesis stated where As I Lay Dying "is heartfelt and full of passion" Austrian Death Machine on the other hand "is an outlet of pure testosterone and stupidity."
> Austrian Death Machine released their first album "Total Brutal" on July 22, 2008. A few months later they released a Christmas theme EP titled "A Very Brutal Christmas". After some tour support of "Total Brutal, Lambesis went back on tour with As I Lay Dying. While on tour he posted on Austrian Death Machine's MySpace blog that he had ideas to follow up "Total Brutal" with a double disc effort titled "Double Brutal" stating that the first disc would be original songs where the second disc would be comprised of cover songs. After returning home from tour in early Summer 2009, he went straight to work on "Double Brutal" which was released September 29, 2009.

Ivan Ave
artist pic
> Ivan Ave’s relationship with music started in the CD shelves of his older sisters. Today the Norwegian MC makes songs clearly shaped by sneaking into 90s bedrooms to play albums by The Fugees and Janet Jackson. In the last few years he has put out several EPs, all deeply rooted in the RnB and Hip-Hop of his childhood, perhaps even more the 70s jazz and soul that inspired it. A keen record collector, Ave moonlights as a DJ and two step extraordinaire. Ivan signed with Berlin based Jakarta Records in 2014 to release Low Jams, a five track phenomenon produced by Stones Throw artist Mndsgn. The EP was described by Okayplayer.com as “an enveloping head nodder that peppers irresistible grooves with vivid double-entendres and exists in the same elusive strata of true school perfection occupied by Nas’ debut Illmatic LP.” In the fall of 2015 Ivan and long time collaborator Fredfades released another duo project on Jakarta, entitled Fruitful LP. In february 2016 Ivan’s debut solo LP, produced exclusively by Mndsgn was released. You can find his vivid raps on several features and side projects. From the soulful cassette release with his crew Mutual Intentions, to trading verses with the likes of Blu and Illa J, Ivan Ave is a force to be reckoned with. Read more on Last.fm.

As soon as Jamin says “Hello everybody we’re Larry & His Flask!” and the first song begins people are glued to the stage. Everyone is watching with smiles and wide eyes. People are looking at their friends shaking their heads with looks on their faces that say: “What the hell is this?!“ When all 6 members are on stage they are truly a sight to behold. Highly Suspect
artist pic
> For rock and roll trio Highly Suspect, making and performing music isn’t a hobby, or even a profession. It’s a way of life. Founded by twins Rich and Ryan Meyer, and their best friend Johnny Stevens in 2009, this literal band of brothers have gone from playing cover sets on the shores of Cape Cod, to playing original material at countless venues and dive bars in New York City. They now live in Brooklyn, and after recording a 3 song EP The Worst Humans with producer Joel Hamilton (Elvis Costello, Plastic Ono Band, Black Keys/Wu-Tang Clan), are working on a new album. Their current sound has been to compared to Band of Skulls, Pink Floyd, and early Kings of Leon. In their single “Bath Salts”, The twins play off their primal connection to hold down a rocking, tension filled rhythm section, while lead singer Johnny’s dirty, lo-fi vocals play into the songs’ themes of recklessness and wasted youth. “We have been rogue, nomadic, bohemian, and poor for years now, but we stay together because this life and this music is what we love” says Johnny. The band is currently working on new material and expects a new album in late 2013. Read more on Last.fm.

PWR BTTM
artist pic
> PWR BTTM is a queer punk band consisting of Ben Hopkins and Liv Bruce. The band was formed at Bard College where Bruce and Hopkins bonded over a mutual interest in bringing elements of performance and drag artistry into DIY culture. While at Bard the duo recorded a demo, Cinderella Beauty Shop, and the Republican National Convention split EP with Jawbreaker Reunion. On these releases, Hopkins plays guitar and sings, and Bruce plays drums. Since then, the two have begun to share vocal/songwriting duties and have also started to trade off instruments. This development is very much apparent on their LP, Ugly Cherries, an album documenting the duo's experiences with queerness, gender, and adulthood over the course of a year of living in upstate New York.

Harley Poe
artist pic
> Harley Poe is an acoustic horror folk rock band with punk influences. They are similar in style to Violent Femmes. Their lyrics however, are extremely dark, with many references to horror movie subculture.
> All of Harley Poe's initial members came from the now defunct Christian band Calibretto 13. Upon disbanding in late 2004, Joseph Whiteford (vocals and guitar), Chad Serhal (bass), and Christopher Thomas (drums) went on to record an album under the name Harley Poe. "In the Dark", which had originally been planned as a new Calibretto 13 album, was released in November of that year. Whiteford tours and records with a new band now; Serhal and Thomas are now involved in their own bands.
> "The Dead and the Naked" was released in August 2006 and includes some new material in addition to live versions of songs from the previous album.
> In 2015, Joe Whiteford announced on his blog that Harley Poe would be going on "indefinite hiatus," citing a need to "give this demon some time off." Whiteford marked the hiatus of Harley Poe by releasing the album "Fallen Down," a collection of recordings done almost entirely on Whiteford's phone.
> In January 2016, however, Whiteford announced that he had reformed the band and was working on recording yet another album. "I'm thinking that music is a part of me," Whiteford wrote on his personal Facebook page, "It flows. I can't stop it. When something is on my mind, I write about it (...) It's a gift." Sarah Jarosz
artist pic
> Sarah Jarosz (born 23 May 1991 in Austin, Texas) is an American alt-country musician and singer-songwriter from Texas. Her first CD, Song Up in Her Head, was released in 2009, with her tune "Mansinneedof" nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Country Instrumental Performance. Her second album, Follow Me Down, was released in 2011. Her third album, Build Me Up from Bones, was released on September 24, 2013 through Sugar Hill Records.
> Jarosz emerged on the scene in about 2003 as someone to watch. Jamming on stage with bluegrass icons named Grisman or Skaggs, she played her mandolin with a sure touch and real joy. It looked and sounded comfortable in her twelve-year-old hands. She started writing songs on the guitar, took up the banjo, and won a bunch of awards. While her instrumental talents are formidable, let's make one thing clear: Sarah is a singer. She's just flat got it. Her voice is velvety smooth, agile, and powerful. With subtle use of colors and effects, she inhabits her songs the way a fine actress does her role. Overall, her music feels good, avoids over reaching. Nothing's contrived.
> Her schoolteacher parents have raised her well, providing the skills, support, and freedom to become the confident artist that she is. Beautiful, talented, and just a little mysterious in a wholesome, Wimberley Texas hill-country kinda way, Jarosz is at home in this world. She knows what she's about and is ready to get out there and make her mark. Read more on Last.fm.

Strapping Young Lad
artist pic
> Strapping Young Lad was a Canadian extreme metal band formed by Devin Townsend in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1994. The band started as a one-man studio project; Townsend played most of the instruments on the 1995 debut album, Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing. By 1997, he had recruited permanent members; this line-up, which consisted of Townsend on vocals and guitar, Jed Simon on guitar, Byron Stroud on bass, and Gene Hoglan on drums, lasted until the band's dissolution.
> Containing elements of death metal, thrash metal, black metal, progressive metal and industrial metal, Strapping Young Lad's music was characterized by the use of complex time signatures, polyrhythmic guitar riffing and drumming, blast beats and Wall of Sound production. The band's musical direction was mainly determined by Townsend, whose battle with bipolar disorder and dark sense of humour were major influences on his songwriting. Townsend was also noted for his eccentric appearance and on-stage behaviour, which greatly contributed to the band's intense live performances.
> The band gained critical success and a growing underground fan base from their 1997 album City. After a hiatus between 1999 and 2002, the band released three more albums, reaching their commercial peak with the 2006 effort, The New Black. Townsend disbanded Strapping Young Lad in May 2007, announcing his decision to retreat from public view while continuing to record solo albums.

Swingin' Utters

> Swingin' Utters is an American punk rock band that formed in the late 1980s. Having begun in Santa Cruz, California, the band moved to San Francisco where they are now based. They have been signed to Fat Wreck Chords since 1996.
> As well as being classed as a "punk revival" band (reminiscent of UK 1970s bands such as Stiff Little Fingers, The Damned, Sham 69 and Eddie & the Hot Rods), Swingin' Utters have increasingly shown themselves to be influenced by Irish folk, particularly The Pogues. The Utters paid homage to their influences with a stellar cover of Cocksparrer's I Got Your Number on the Blackout compilation Punk Rock Jukebox.
> Members of the Swingin' Utters have been involved in many musical side-projects, most notably Johnny Bonnel and Darius Koski's Filthy Thieving Bastards and Druglords of the Avenue (formed in Oakland, California in 2004), and Spike Slawson's Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (in which he is the singer). Drummer Greg McIntee's side project Viva Hate was founded with Tiger Army bassist Geoff Kresge and singer Matt Wedgley of The Force. Guitarist Jack Dalrymple formed and fronted the Fat Wreck band Dead to Me after One Man Army disbanded. Dalrymple, Slawson and Koski also play together in the Re-Volts.
> Swingin' Utters tracks have been used in the soundtracks of computer games including "Five Lessons Learned", which appeared on the soundtrack to the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and "Stupid Lullabies" which was used as the title track to Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX. Read more on Last.fm.

Morgan Delt
artist pic
> Psychic Death Hole, the ultra-limited six-song cassette released in December 2012 introduced the world to Morgan Delt's self-produced, genre-bending flavor of brown acid-dosed flowerdelia. Equal parts 'Odyssey & Oracle' and ‘Parable of Arable Land’, Morgan Delt's self-titles début LP, Morgan Delt (January 2014), expands on those initial tracks and brings forth one a fully realized glimpse into the California native’s twisted brain.
> Morgan cites influences from Curt Boettcher to West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and rounds it out with golden age sunset stip heavies like The Byrds and Love. It's all in there: obsessively studied, mastered and then mutated. Morgan Delt's music worms its way into your brain and takes hold.

Guantanamo Baywatch
artist pic
> Guantanamo Baywatch was started by Jason Powell and Chevelle Wiseman in Portland around 2008 to an immediately enthusiastic reception, released a very well received and now out-of-print LP on Portland's awesome Hovercraft Records, as well as a couple of EPs/tapes. The band really came into its own, though, in late 2010, with the addition of Chris Michael (also in BOOM!) on drums. Technically they joined the Dirtnap roster in June 2011, but they took their time recording their debut for the label, done mostly at home by the band themselves.
Chest Crawl sees the band working more vocal numbers into the mix, incorporating the usual surf/garage suspects (Cramps, Trashmen), more obscure 50's rock 'n' roll/RNB wildmen, as well as slightly heavier nods toward the young-oldies sound being popularized today by bands such as Hunx, Shannon And The Clams, Nobunny, etc.

Laura Gibson
artist pic
> Laura Gibson is an American folk singer and songwriter. She was raised in Coquille, Oregon, and is now based in the Portland area.
> With themes related to the pacific northwest, Gibson writes songs on a nylon-stringed guitar. In November 2004, she self-released an EP, Amends, produced and engineered by Drew Grow, on a laptop, in a house in Newberg, Oregon. Following this initial release, Laura released her debut full-length in November, 2006 titled If You Come to Greet Me on Hush Records. Engineered by Adam Selzer (Norfolk and Western, M. Ward, The Decemberists) and recorded completely on analog tape, songs on If You Come to Greet Me vary from pieces composed with bare-bones guitar and voice, to an orchestra of trumpets, piano, vibraphone, saw, violin, cello, banjo and found sounds. Songs have described as, "haunting portraits of nostalgia and intimacy, of loneliness and wide-eyed hope".
> The La Grande Songfacts reports that Laura Gibson's fifth album is titled after La Grande, a small town situated in the forests of the Pacific Northwest where she parked her trailer and wrote and recorded the ten tracks that make up the record. It was released in January 2012.

Dauwd
artist pic
> Dauwd was raised in Wales playing piano, guitar and drums whilst experimenting with electronic production. Now, residing in Brighton, his early obsessions with tabliture have progressed into a specific talent for sequencing and creative percussive textures.
> Dauwd creates music with a complexity most contemporary producers shy away from. Found sounds are thickly laden over multi-timbred synths, vocal and instrumental stabs punctuate organic and evolving passages guided always by driving percussion and immaculate bass production. The method, “make a noise, make it my noise, then give it some rhythm” certainly seems to work for him. Constantly experimenting, Dauwd describes his creative process as "finding a sound, texture, or moment that you can relate to, and from there develop your narrative". Read more on Last.fm.

The Pack A.D.
artist pic
> The Pack A.D. are from Vancouver, Canada (formed in 2006). They are known for explosive live performances and the ability to generate a massive sound, with only two members (singer-songwriter / guitarist Becky Black & drummer / songwriter Maya Miller). Musical styles include garage rock, pop, punk and blues rock. In the past, reviewers have compared the duo to The White Stripes, The Kills, and The Black Keys.
> The band slightly evolved away from their raw early sound with their third album, We Kill Computers, and with their 2011 release, Unpersons. Their next two offerings, 2014's Do Not Engage and 2016's Positive Thinking, found them expanding their sound even further with psychedelic rock and rockabilly influences. Both members cite literature and film as huge inspiration for much of their songwriting, especially science fiction and horror genres. Silver Apples
artist pic
> Silver Apples was an electronic/psychedelic duo which formed in 1967 in New York City, New York, United States. They originally consisted of Simeon Coxe III (who played a custom home-made synthesizer known as the "Simeon") and Danny Taylor (drums). The duo split in 1970. The group was reformed in 1996 by Simeon and new drummer Xian Hawkins. Danny Taylor returned to the band in 1998 and the band toured as a trio until 1999 when Simeon was injured in a car accident. The band returned to making music in 2006, but without Taylor, who died in 2005.
> Contrasting the flowery psychedelic rock music of the late-1960s, the New York City-based Silver Apples created an avant-garde sound based on little more than a homemade synthesizer (named the Simeon after their lead singer - Simeon) and an extensive drumkit, originally played by Dan Taylor. They reformed in the 1990s, making new records and playing live again.
> Silver Apples were one of the first groups to employ electronic music techniques extensively within a rock idiom, and their minimalistic style, with its pulsing, driving beat and frequently discordant modality, anticipated not only the experimental electronic music and krautrock of the 1970's, but underground dance music and indie rock of the 1990s as well. > A Philadelphia electronic pop duo comprised of Jeremy Lloyd (production/songwriting) and Samantha Gongol (vocals/songwriting).

Mykki Blanco
artist pic
> Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. is a 25 year-old New York based performance artist, poet and hip-hop musician whose genius keeps her profile on a steady rise. Founder of performance art collective NO FEAR, Quattlebaum performs regularly under the moniker of Mykki Blanco, an unexpectedly brash alter-ego that manages to simultaneously blend the rap genre's prescribed machismo with references to pioneering hip-hop femme fatales and gay club kids.
> From The Silence of Duchamp to the Noise of Boys, her first poetry collection written over the course of six years in a myriad of different cities, was released by New York's OHWOW gallery. What most qualifies Quattlebaum Jr. as a one-man spectacle is her ability to morph from a young, gay, black urbanite reciting lines about discrimination to alter-ego named Mykki Blanco, a fiercely provocative persona to say the least. “People have a hard time understanding that there is no difference between Mykki and Michael,” he explains. “My art stands alone. I am definitely the art world’s post-Generation X pomo baby.” Quattlebaum began dressing in women's clothes in late 2010 with the intent of inventing a rap character. "The Mykki character came naturally: a teenage female rapper". In the last year, she's parlayed the whim-spawned rap persona to the center of his work as a performer and recording artist, and has plans to release a four-track mix in the coming weeks. Seeing Blanco perform leaves one feeling mesmerized as though they've been introduced to something unbelievably out-of-this-world while her bravado evokes a mysterious, intriguing sense of optimism. Nektar
artist pic
> NEKTAR is probably the most German-like of the Seventies British bands, a fame that owes a lot to the town in which this band was founded (Hamburg) and to their stylistic approach (Assimilated to Krautrock). NEKTAR was formed in 1969 by Allan FREEMAN (keyboards & vocals), Roye ALBRIGHTON (guitars & vocals), Derek MOORE (bass, Mellotron & vocals) and Ron HOWDEN (drums).
> Their earliest albums were hard rock that drew heavily from the space-rock and PINK FLOYD styles of the same period. The 70’s gave them the occasion to issue some masterpieces, like for example "A Tab in the Ocean (1972) "Remember the Future" (1973) and "Recycled" (1975). Each is a conceptual album that is a nice blend of melodic guitar and keyboards with a vocal story. "Journey To The Centre Of The Eye" is a mindblowing epic with lots of echoplex guitar and dual Mellotrons which is quite in tune with the Krautrock stuff going on around them, yet is definitely British. "Magic is a Child" had shorter songs and were less less satisfying.
> Nektar's entire back catalogue has been re-vamped and reclad and is about to be re-issued in the USA, supported by a tour. A new Studio CD "Book of Days" is targeted for 20th March 2007 release on EMI - Caroline.

> New York City’s CILVER is more than a rock band: In many ways, they’re the embodiment of the American Dream. For starters, the powerful musical collective showcases the brilliant synergistic possibilities that unfold when a confident, determined woman is paired on equal footing with a multifaceted male collaborator.
> CILVER challenges the rock n’ roll status quo as smartly, ably and swiftly as like minded mega-sellers and radio tastemakers Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless and Lacuna Coil. They do so with a unique artistic voice, on their terms, with battle scars to show for it.
> “We definitely have something to say. We carry a strong message, which comes from the experiences we’ve had, especially the things I’ve been through personally,” says singer Uliana Preotu. “Our lyrics are loaded with more than the average rock song.”
