No!
Eh. Here we go again. So as I pointed out somewhere, this particular domain was registered on: Creation Date: 2021-09-21 with NameSilo, LLC. Opera should really reach out to the Domain registar and take it down.
Meanwhile, Opera GX was released on: June 11, 2019
I looked at the source code of that garbage phishing site and outside of a ton of Javascript and some Privacy PWND references there isn't much. It redirects you to OperaGX but even then at one point of time it could have been easily delivering Malware.
The Privacy PWND is also pretty interesting as there isn't much references about it and it seems rather fishy.
So for 100th time. opera.com or opera.com/gx nothing else.
Yeah, so. LEt's go one b y one. Yeah Opera INstaller from the opera.com. Official site.
Didn't use the VPN.
I didn't sync opera with my Opera MObile (Didn't use it yet) but still a lot those accounts were logged in on that Android.
So i won't put it out there that i've got a security breach there.
All extensions taken from Chrome Webstore. No one came from outside. (uBlock Origin, Dark Reader for sites that refuse to give us a dark mode, Mute Tab to keep a friend stream running and still count as a viewer, TwoSeven to what with my partner series together becuase covid, Return Youtube Dislikes for information.)
So yeah ;\
Right now i have 2FA on everything, so i'll probably go and test again Opera, and keep an eye for that.
YouTube spreads misinformation and creates culture of idiots. To be fair this Sub-Reddit annoys me at times with amount of stupid things I see. But I get it, not everyone is tech savvy or works IT.
So is Opera a Virus? Assuming you get it from opera.com/gx then no. If you are one of those smart people who post here trying to be funny about "Opera blocking itself" and they supply a phishing link to a fake Opera GX download site.
Here is a thing. If you got an EXE, MSI or a PDF, DOC, DOCX, XSL, XSLS and other files. You can always submit them to virustotal.com which will check the file signature against multiple vendors.
Also. Advice, do not bother with YouTube comments. I just watch content and don't care about idiocy in the comments. But in same time I don't go looking for "free" software which usual ends up grabbing people some nice Malware :)
That website you went on is not official. If you downloaded anything from it please refer to this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/33evdi/suggested_reading_official_malware_removal_guide/
The official download page is https://opera.com/gx
I have no issues using Linux, i have no issues with the CLI it's just everything is easier on Windows and as such I can't be bothered with Linux. Or in short, I can use it, I just don't want to because it's a chore.
Installing opera on Windows, browse to opera.com, download and install.
On Linux (if you want it to be auto updated) :
$ wget -qO- https://deb.opera.com/archive.key | sudo apt-key add -
$ sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=i386,amd64] https://deb.opera.com/opera-stable/ stable non-free"
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install opera-stable
Why does this question constantly come up?
it is where the file downloads from when you download from opera.com

(here is the webarchive for you to look at: https://web.archive.org/web/20210525032401if\_/https://get.opera.com/)
I found links in your comment that were not hyperlinked:
I did the honors for you.

I was searching something about architecture thru duckduckgo with a common bang in the Address bar. Nothing suspicious, that's why i was so surprised when it popped up. I presume that if it was Opera-aproved it would be a secured adress and probably with opera.com/... in the adress.
Opera on Desktop has full sync for everything.
Opera Touch does not have sync yet.
Opera Desktop has builtin Ad blocks, screen shots, currency conversion, double click tab to jump to top of page. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head but visiting Opera.com can help you figure other features out.
Statistics.
Japan has ~6.1% of Internet Explorer usage, South Africa has high Opera Mini usage.
Opera Mini has such heavy use because it has a built in proxy, uses very little bandwidth etc.

Opera Mini is just godlike.
