Run a Scan with Malwarebytes and Quarantine the Files. As long as you got Opera GX from Official Website. Then you won't have a virus. Although, you may have downloaded something that added one there.
i have the same problem. the opera icon on the top left is also glowing red due to "get the last security update." upon clicking, it will forward you to "https://www.opera.com/gx/" that will not load.
First, open up a new tab, type https://gmail.com/
in the address field and press enter. You might want to do the same with https://mail.google.com/
too since that's what the former redirects to anyway (at least in the USA).
That should put Gmail up top when you type g.
Now, to get rid of the entry, hover over it with your mouse and look to see if there's an x to the right of it. If so, click the x to remove the entry. If there's no x, goto the URL opera://bookmarks
and check your bookmarks (including ones in the speed dial folder) to see if you have a bookmark like this. If so, delete it.
If no luck there, goto the URL opera://history
and see if you can find an entry for that g g/ and deleted it.
If no luck there, on the start page, under "Suggestions", see if you can find an entry there. If so, see if you can delete it. If not, click the Easy-setup button at the right of the address bar and disable Speed dial suggestions.
Also, goto the URL opera://settings/searchEngines
. If you're in a country where Google isn't a default-provided search engine where it takes up the "G" keyword, check to see if there's a search engine that you accidentally added that has G as its keyword.
Eh. Here we go again. So as I pointed out somewhere, this particular domain was registered on: Creation Date: 2021-09-21 with NameSilo, LLC. Opera should really reach out to the Domain registar and take it down.
Meanwhile, Opera GX was released on: June 11, 2019
I looked at the source code of that garbage phishing site and outside of a ton of Javascript and some Privacy PWND references there isn't much. It redirects you to OperaGX but even then at one point of time it could have been easily delivering Malware.
The Privacy PWND is also pretty interesting as there isn't much references about it and it seems rather fishy.
So for 100th time. opera.com or opera.com/gx nothing else.
YouTube spreads misinformation and creates culture of idiots. To be fair this Sub-Reddit annoys me at times with amount of stupid things I see. But I get it, not everyone is tech savvy or works IT.
So is Opera a Virus? Assuming you get it from opera.com/gx then no. If you are one of those smart people who post here trying to be funny about "Opera blocking itself" and they supply a phishing link to a fake Opera GX download site.
Here is a thing. If you got an EXE, MSI or a PDF, DOC, DOCX, XSL, XSLS and other files. You can always submit them to virustotal.com which will check the file signature against multiple vendors.
Also. Advice, do not bother with YouTube comments. I just watch content and don't care about idiocy in the comments. But in same time I don't go looking for "free" software which usual ends up grabbing people some nice Malware :)
That website you went on is not official. If you downloaded anything from it please refer to this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/33evdi/suggested_reading_official_malware_removal_guide/
The official download page is https://opera.com/gx
Hi,
It is possible that you managed to download the highly glitched early release of Opera GX (based on V75) that was released by mistake and pulled back.
It would be best to update -
I can't help you install it but if you really want to use it I can offer a very easy way, use it as a portable app.
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/opera-gx-portable
I try to use as many portable apps as I can which keeps Windows from being as cluttered since it means fewer files scattered about and fewer registry entries, plus you can delete to "uninstall" or copy to a USB or external quick and easy for backup or just to have it with you always.
Very puzzling, the only constant seems tied to your Google account but I cannot think of anything related that'd result in playback issues.
Are you 100% set on using OperaGX or are alternatives such as Vivaldi, Brave, Edge, or another offering an option you'd entertain?
How about try this, grab a portable OperzGX and see how it works for you.
I recommend Lightshot: https://app.prntscr.com/ I've been using it for years with no complaints. It has the functions you describe and has the benefit of working on more than just your browser.
