"Encrypting the folder" is harder than it sounds. Here's some step by step instructions for Windows:
This creates a file which looks like random data, but can be decrypted into a "virtual drive" on your computer with a password. Every file saved in the virtual drive is automatically encrypted, and you can "eject" the virtual drive once you're done.
Once you've got a virtual drive, you can chuck Google Chrome Portable in the drive and use that for your private internet browsing instead of using Incognito mode in your normal browser.
> However, you don't need an admin terminal to install apps as Novus automatically elevates to an admin terminal without bypassing UAC
/uj You shouldn't need admin to install anything for the local user except maybe VPNs or drivers
We had this figured out 15 years ago: https://portableapps.com/
They even have GIMP: https://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/gimp_portable
be very careful with symbolic links (symlinks) for things like program files and windows files, it will break things. i went through a similar phase where i really wanted to partition off everything but my windows folder, and eventually discovered that there is no way to make it work the way i wanted it to.
windows stores some of its system files in the program files folders, and there are registry values that depend on these folders being at that exact location (non-symlinked). symlinking these somewhere else will confuse and break windows. there are certain cases where you can get away with symlinking a program folder's contents somewhere else, but you would have to know that it won't break anything
although, there is something called PortableApps which can be downloaded and installed anywhere and will run without being installed. the website https://portableapps.com/apps converts many programs for this purpose. if you see a program on there you need you can download it onto your HDD in its own isolated folder.
one more option would be to use Sandboxie, which if configured correctly can trick a program into believing it is writing files onto your SSD when it is actually writing them onto your HDD. i can help you set this up if you want, but note that it has a 30 day evaluation period. when that trial is up Sandboxie is still usable but on every reboot you must wait through a 5 second prompt before loading a program within it
Dopo potrai pensare a far ripartire Defender.
What about Firefox Portable ? And can your coworkers run Firefox ?
Have you tried using a fresh profile ? Uninstalling completely including profile deletion, and reinstalling anew ?
It doesn't need an installation. Just download and install it to another dir in your path. It should be fine since you are not "installing" it. Especially since you are on windows, you can just download a portable exe of the software you wish to use.
EDIT: It is possible that your Cyber team may have not even considered vim. Try and ask if they can take a look. It is not on the "approved list" doesn't mean it can't get on it, right?
Portable software can be taken with you, e.g. on a thumb drive. Back when I was in high school, I had a thumb drive with portable versions of Firefox, Open Office and various handy tools with me at all times. That way, I had my favorite software with my settings, bookmarks and private data, which would also leave no traces on machines I used them on. I could use a better browser than the mandatory Internet Explorer on school PCs. With the start menu of portableapps.com, I even had a comfortable menu instead of having to go through folders.
The disadvantage of portable software is that there is no installer that automatically creates shortcuts on your desktop, in your start menu and in the list of installed software. It's less convenient and it's easier to be "messy" with portable software, if you don't take care to carefully place it in appropriately named folders. That's it. Otherwise, there are no disadvantages. The software is the same, apart from where it saves its data, which has no impact on operation or performance.
I'm still using portable versions of Firefox and Thunderbird, simply because I can easily transfer them to a new PC or Windows installation, without having to jump through any hoops or use an online service to transfer my bookmarks, add-ons, messages and settings. I just manually create shortcuts, that's it.

As long as you're aware that your IT department may not approve of your getting around their restrictions, this is what I would use in your situation.
Libre Office is OK. You can get a portable version at PortableApps so you don't even need to install it (can work from a USB key).
If you just need the equivalent of Word & Excel, Wps Office is a lightweight alternative and has excellent compatibility with Microsoft file formats (.xlsx and .docx).
Use Firefox Portable off a USB drive and enable DNS over HTTPS (scroll to the how-to section) which should prevent DNS poisoning by your local ISP.
No.
It downloads and installs them without any prompts if you have admin access on the machine. It does not uninstall them when done. If you try to re-run the installer, it will try to update all of those programs to the latest version if they aren't up to date.
What you should be looking at is something like this: https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/google_chrome_portable
or this, if you want to go for something a bit harder: https://www.lifewire.com/create-uefi-bootable-linux-mint-usb-2202084
I got it many years ago when it was for free for a limited time. It has a bunch of different capture options and tools: https://i.imgur.com/aMOefxL.png
The Image editor is comparable to mspaint.exe
with the addition of some tools like a highlighter rectangle and pixelation. Almost everything supports keyboard control, which is nice for selecting pixel perfect screen regions.
It's configurable to automatically save all screenshots to a directory and/or to an application. It has a few image hosters included to directly upload them too. I don't use it because it can be configured to place the screenshot in the clipboard and then I can just CTRL+V
into imgur. Great tool but I don't know what the difference between the free and commercial version is. The commercial version says "No Ads". I installed the free version in a VM and have not yet encountered any ads or changes to browsers. You can also use the portable Version from portableapps.com because they don't permit installer addons. As far as I know the free version also has no auto-update feature but they haven't really added anything for a year now.
It even let's you launch programs and update them from a start menu style launcher. It's also great on a home PC because you don't have to "install" the programs, which can help keep Windows a bit tidier. So I use it for anything I don't need stuff like right click menus for.
If you don't want to install a different build of Firefox and later have to revert, you can download a portable build of Firefox ESR, nightly, or developer edition and copy your profile to the \Data\profile folder of the portable version. Then go to about:config and set xpinstall.signatures.required to false in the portable version.
I was able to download the PortableApps.com app to a temporary directory (or to a USB drive, if they are not locked). There are a whole bunch of apps provided in that platform that all run without being formally installed on the computer. Highly recommended.
Just finished reading the post. It seems the issue is not with Filezilla per se, but the installer. The admins are claiming the behavior is a result of the ads in the installer, and nothing is getting installed on your system.
If you want to use Filezilla, then just download the the portable build and use that: https://portableapps.com/de/apps/internet/filezilla_portable
It might be easier with a "programming-focused" text editor, like one of these. They offer syntax highlighting for most languages (inclusing Fortran) and you can often call the compiler from within the editor.
In fact, the portable version of Geany looks like it might suit you well (it is Fortran-aware and can call your compiler).
There is also a portable version of Firefox: https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
Vivaldi and Opera also have official portable and auto-updating versions but not sure if these are privacy-respecting enough for you (as you mention ungoogled-chromium)
I would think using https://portableapps.com/ on a USB stick would be much better. That way you can just encrypt the USB stick with a password and not worry if anybody can see what apps you have on the USB stick.
PortableApps.com is very well respected and they have over 400+ apps.
I bought an encrypted Kingston USB drive for $15 and installed Chrome Portable on it. All my settings and bookmarks come with it, it's great.
Get a flash drive, plug it in
Run the installation program, set the flash drive as the destination for Firefox

PCGen is a work in progress and the trait specifically says it hasn't been implemented in the description...
That said to enable the ability for the time being
Close PCGen
Open the file "isr_abilities_race.lst" (I use a portable version of a Notepad++ but regular notepad works as well) inside of the PCGen folder located PCGen\pcgen\data\pathfinder\paizo\campaign_setting\inner_sea_races
Search for PREABILITY:1,CATEGORY=Special Ability,Sylph ~ Mostly Human and put it in a pair of brackets [PREABILITY:1,CATEGORY=Special Ability,Sylph ~ Mostly Human]
Load up PCGen and you will now be able to access the ability as you desire
Ifrit, Oread, Suli, Udine all are listed as not implimented but they can all be changed as easily the Sylph's to enable them
You probably wouldn't be happy to know that AVAST wants to buy ESET, so they might control the market even further. They already bought AVG. Last fun fact, both AVAST and AVG are Czech companies, and ESET is Slovak. So former Czechoslovakia would by biggest AV player on the planet by far.
They're business so I understand them pushing subscriptions, but this just shows how much extra you will get. The anti-malware protection is 100% same for free and premium users and rest of tools are mostly gimmicks. But I don't feel bad for them - free users build gigantic early warning network. Besides money lies in a corporate licencing. So I don't think CCleaner will become worse than it is now. Glary Utilities are solid and offer probably most tools for free, but if you want to reclaim most space, try Wise Disk Cleaner (portable). I run them both on my current system, GU offers to free up 1.37GB and WDC 1.9GB + 1.7GB (windows installation files and backup).

I used to have a USB drive on my key chain with portable apps on it and YUMI to have multi boot into GParted, and other special recovery tools.
Didn’t get much use out of it, but it was fun to make.
Why not use Veracrypt to create (1) an encrypted file container or (2) encrypt an entire USB drive.
With either approach, you will need a copy of Verycrypt. For approach 1 you can put a PortableVerycrypt on the same USB stick and for approach 2 you would put a PortableVeracrypt on a 2nd USB stick.
You can get PortableVeracrypt by installing the PortableApps platform ( https://portableapps.com/ ) and then installing Veracrypt from that. You can copy the PortableVeracrypt folder to your USB sticks.
Yep, it's called "tree"! You can use it something like this:
Open a Command Prompt
Use the "cd" command to navigate where you want to start the tree) if necessary. e.g. "cd Documents"
type "tree", hit Enter, and watch what happens.
This is not the most user-friendly method, but there are also utilities for this. I like PortableApps for little utilities like this, and they have one called TreeSize Free which can do this. Select the directory you want to look at, then say Expand / Full Expand to show the whole tree.
Don't lock yourself into Microsoft. There are many snipping tools available. One easy approach is to install the
Platform and after installing the platform, then just add the PicPick app.
There are a lot of PortableApps and they are extremely easy to install and uninstall. Plus you can put them on a flash drive and take them with you.
Purchased my primary laptop in 2013, and the best speed upgrade was installing an SSD.
Excessive slowdown could be a sign of a failing drive; check the hard drive health with CrystalDiskInfo.
there's the one from PortableApps
https://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/blender_portable
Their apps are truly portable (i.e you can put them on USB sticks and they leave no trace behind after exit)
Head to PortableApps and install their platform. A 2G USB has been plenty for a tool-based device but there are games as well if you like.
Off the top of my head I use:
Ant Renamer
BleachBit
Eraser
All of the "Wise" tools
VeraCrypt
When I burn a computer with an HDD for myself or someone else I:
1) Create a Burn folder of the desktop and move temp files, documents, photos, whatever into it.
2) Rename the files and folders with Ant Renamer using the Random UID setting
3) Securely delete them with Eraser
4) Confirm it worked with Wise Recovery
I also keep the EFF Long Word List txt file on the USB and a six sided die in my backpack.
I highly recommend buying a nice big thumb drive, installing PortableApps on it, and then loading it up with software. There's even a version of Kiwix for PortableApps.
For a prepper situation, I think PortableApps, with the right load out, and a windows-based laptop are invaluable. Not only can you put a wealth of information on it, like wikipedia, but you can have games, e-books, word processing, spreadsheets for record keeping, there's a lot of education programs available, the list goes on.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned portable apps.. most of the apps you see in this thread are available as portables. No install and auto updating if you use a package. The two best packages are portableapps and Liberkey. You can even add your own portable apps to each of those packages. It's great to put them on a USB key and have them wherever you go.
If you want to use something like firefox or chrome instead of maybe just internet explorer, you could just run it form a thumb drive so you aren't messing with the school property. Check out https://portableapps.com/.
While %APPDATA% is for application data (and binary installation should not go there)*, it's totally possible to have a portable (doesn't modify host PCs configs/settings/files) JRE. One example is here <https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/java_portable>.
And you don't need a browser to run JavaScript, either. You can bundle that stuff too! Check out eg Electron.
Yes, FileZilla, because of FTP, which is removed in the newest versions of Chrome/Edge.
https://filezilla-project.org/download.php
Or portable version:
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/filezilla_portable
And then use the directory above, not a direct link to a file, like this:
You should use the support forum for the modified version of Firefox you're running: PortableApps - Firefox Portable. It behaves differently from vanilla Firefox, as we've recently learned here.
Perhaps you'll find something in this list
And then check this website
Portableapps has a selection of portable open source games:
https://portableapps.com/apps/games
Lots of classics in this list, but no commercial games, of course.
This site is also useful, because it allows you to create a custom start menu. Combine it with software like Firefox Portable and you can carry all of your bookmarks and browser history with you. Very useful. I used this a lot in school.
I would suggest looking into emulators. Practically every emulator is portable and with older systems up to the N64, you can carry huge libraries of titles on even a small thumb drive. Keep in mind that emulating later systems - Gamecube and newer - may not work on every random school or work computer you plug your stick into. Also note that school and work computers often do not allow random executables, which includes games and emulators.
For the best emulators, refer to this wiki:
https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Main_Page
I would suggest using a quality USB 3.0 stick for this - or perhaps even a portable SSD. More demanding games and emulators will benefit from better performance.
As an alternative, take a look at the Internet Archive's Arcade, which emulates lots of classic games entirely in the web browser (they have a DMCA exception and can do this legally):
https://archive.org/details/internetarcade
Loading times can be a bit long though.
Uninstall Tool is payware.
ZSoft Uninstaller is free but old (like Win-XP old). Don't know if it still works on Win-10.
There are also tools taking a before/after installation snapshot but leaving the cleanup to you (after you ran the Windows uninstaller).
yeah... I don't think that's the actual profile folder. if you're using the app I think you're using, that's just a spoofed default profile used to speed up app startup. the actual profile folder is supposed to be in the installation directory. so find where firefox portable is installed. the support page says something like FirefoxPortable\Data\profile
is where your real profile is. move the chrome folder there. if that doesn't work, maybe you also need to delete the FirefoxPortableSettings.ini
file in FirefoxPortable\Data\settings
. the support page says something like that.
that's all assuming that this program actually supports userchrome mods. the support page doesn't mention anything about it so idk. but if it does support userchrome mods I think that's where you need to put them
You claim it's a bad trend, but don't explain why.
EV certificates are expensive (as they require the issuer to research the applicant) and provide little additional benefit for the vast majority of sites.
The general public can't distinguish between EV and DV certificates, and most people already think a DV certificate does what an EV certificate does (i.e. confirming the site is actually who you think it is).
Now that virtually all browsers hide the fact that a site is secured, EV certificates are even less useful. Most modern browsers only indicate when a site isn't secured, making EV certificates an expensive status symbol.
DV certificates are now free, making virtually every site, commercial or personal, secured by default. Only financial sites (e.g. banks, Paypal, etc) benefit from EV certificates. And that's the way it should be. EV certs should be rare, and only used where fraud is likely.
Tell me, what would an EV certificate do for portableapps.com? I've never heard of that site, but I checked it out, and can't think of why it would need an EV cert. How do you think an EV cert would benefit the site?
For older versions of Firefox, I always download a portable version. The latest portable ESR version can be grabbed from https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox-portable-esr.
Older portable ESR versions can be grabbed from https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/legacy
All previous versions of FF Portable can be found at https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./
Oh yeah, you could download OBS Portable and copy it to your USB thumb drive: https://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/obs-studio-portable
As someone who used uTorrent for years and enjoyed it until they added ads (from my understanding it's only gotten worse since then), I have tried most of the major clients and by far the best in my opinion is qBittorrent.

First its open source, which is how prefer all my software when possible for myriad reasons. Plus it supports 32 bit and 64 bit Windows, Mac, and Linux so can used it on pretty much any OS. There's also a portable qBittorrent (link) so you can stick it on a flash drive.
For those looking for Portable usb image burner, here is Rufus - https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/rufus-portable .... Instructions for Rufus - https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-burn-an-iso-file-to-a-usb-drive-2619270

If you can see, but not access the folders, this has always got me out of that particular bind.

Another alternative would be IOBitUnlocker - just make sure not to select the delete option!
You probably could; look into a PortableApps.com environment. Cygwin has been built for it, so you can set it up at home and get your dev env set up that way.
Circumventing the Admin requirement or booting off another drive would likely be the most elegant solution, that way you’d only need a USB. If the BIOS is locked then that’s pretty difficult.
There are lots of apps adapted to have self contained versions, portableapps has a good selection and provides their own launcher. Most flash games can be downloaded and played in browsers too.
Get a flash drive, plug it in

You could always install a portable version of Firefox (current), so you can see what you can and can't do. The "installed" and portable versions can be run on the same comoputer--they have entirely separate profiles. You can get a portable version here: https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
They have a good forum on the portableapps.com site, too, if you have any portable app-specific questions, including one section devoted to Firefox itself.
Also, if you are worried about your history being blown away in the update, I'd go to your profile folder, and then copy the places.sqlite file onto your desktop. That is where you have your history. To find your profile, type in about:support in the URL bar, then hit enter. The Root Directory and Local Directory (at the top of that tab) will tell you where to go, and give you a link (at least in my version of FF they do) to click on.
Well, Discord has to move on eventually as well, and even Microsoft isn't really supporting IE anymore.
I'd recommend another browser. If you can't, because you don't have admin privileges on the computer you're using, try Firefox Portable. https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
Do me a favor: Run this application on your machine. https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/crystaldiskinfo_portable
It's gonna tell you if you have a HDD issue. most likly it'll come back saying "good" which is fine, but its still not a bad idea to check HDD health once and a while.

You should assume the owner can see everything being done on the work computer, as is commonly the case.
Disregarding that serious issue, you should stick to exclusively using PortableApps from a usb drive. Then you can keep your documents safely stored on that.
You should try portable Firefox. Just run it, no installation required. So you can run it on locked down machines, from the harddisk or your own USB :)
It can change formats, change sizes, change the names all automatically. And a lot more.
It’s free. I’ve been using it for years.
And there’s a portable version.
https://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/irfanview_portable
But it only does pictures not video.
No you can't delete selectively, all or none.
You said "...100gb file..." and then "...after copying a few files ...". So, which is it, a single large file or many small files? If your SD card is formatted in fat32 then it won't accept files over 4gb. Use exFat instead.
If you can't figure it out through windows, use a formatting tool like Rufus: https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/rufus-portable
Your Vantage is a different version than mine and might not even have the ability; if you don't see the info button assume it doesn't have it.
A program like HWiNFO should tell you the version.
I use Pot Player, excellent:

Por via das dúvidas, algum dia acesse PortableApps.com/apps.
É um site de programas portáteis para Windows que podem ser instalados em & rodados a partir de um pendrive. Apesar de serem portáteis, em cada programa tem o link para o programa original, além de muitos serem de Fonte Aberta, e terem versões para Linux e tals.
Por exemplo: Krita, GIMP, Inkscape, Music Brainz, Firefox & Thunderbird (e uns 400 a mais)...
>Compactar a unidade
Se for Windows, recomendo o Tree Size (portátil). Ele permite aplicar compressão NTFS a pastas e arquivos de um disco. No meu caso, 100 GB as vezes ocupam 60 GB.
I have one which has a copy of essential PDFs, an (encrypted and passworded) zip of important documents, a (encrypted and zipped) backup of my password vault, a linux distro (I chose Slax) and portable versions of all the apps required to open them in Windows. Portableapps.com is your friend for this.
Also a selection of light games, music and movies. Couple of episodes of The Office, the Mass Effect soundtrack, an FPS game called Cube, chess, etc.
It's all on one partition.
The free version of FoxIt reader does not expire or require payment. There is probably a week-long trial for the paid version. You do not need to pay. The free version does everything most of us need.
I got the 100% free portable version from https://portableapps.com/
When my kid was born, I had no time to do anything really. I started hanging out in the library with a set of headphones and a pendrive full of free music software when he went down for a nap (his pushchair folded down flat).
Just did tutorials and messed about with synths and samples on LMMS. Now he's a bit older and I'm into Mixxx, but I have a nice laptop to learn to DJ on. :)
Check your smart status, download crystaldiskinfo from portableapps.com.
Open your task manager, sort the list of running programs by disk usage, highest first, check what's using the disk so much.
Open dfrgui (literally type dfrgui in Start, and run the program), check when was the disk trimmed last time, trimm it (just select the ssd and click optimize).
Check if it is not full, or close to full, SSDs need to have empty space to prolong their life.
v1.9 of freeplane is not bad. The design is less polished than the commercial products but after a while it does the job.
edit : for java i use the portableapp version, https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/java\_portable
Download a copy of Chrome Portable (https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/google_chrome_portable) and just only install Stadia Enhanced on it. Or, as it sounds like you've already gone with, just use Edge only for this.
My local library allows you to connect USB drives to it. They don't allow you to save to the computers and I used them way back in the day to do homework in college. My local library also has a WIFI connection that you can connect to outdoors so you can use their internet from a laptop in your vehicle or in the grass.
If I remember correctly my local library uses something like Faronic's Deep Freeze. It writes every change made to a reserved section of the drive and wipes it at each restart.

I was able to run programs from a USB drive I downloaded from portableapps.com.

The alternative would be restaurants or coffee shops if you have a laptop.
I have copied .exe files from my linux partitions to windows, and ran them from windows with no issues in the past. many people use steam to share a windows game download/exes with linux and windows on a single ntfs partition.
the Filesystem should not be changing the data in the file.
as a test see if zip files copied to the windows partition are readable in windows.
then try zipping the .exe and unzip it on windows.
try with some real simple/small .exe from https://portableapps.com/
I don't know the legality of recording the training video.
On a separate and unrelated note here is a link to a portable screen recorder. Look up how to set up portable apps on your flash drove.
Here the is the link to the portable screen recorder. https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/camstudio_portable
Try packing it and then dragging and dropping the packed extension in.
The extension definitely still works, assuming you're on a working install of Chrome.
I'd recommend trying it with a fresh Chrome environment.
I'm trying this and all the links and downloads are for windows. the extension .exe is purely windows, mac uses .dmg :( I've been trying all day!!
given some of the weirdness i have had with moving 'installed' programs from one windows install to another (windows) machine (without rerunning the installer) I can think of various .dlls missing, or even fonts, or other support libraries (just think of all the .net and directx stuff) Then there could be other things the programs installer might have included (codecs, dlls) and so forth that the program might be looking for in some of the windows system directories, that may or may not be found when the program looks in the wine 'windows' directory.
I do recall 'sol.exe' working :) when used that way, and quite a few windows programs. I recall the various 'portable apps' programs for windows - all worked fine this way. https://portableapps.com/apps
But there is a lot of things that may go wrong. :)
Good Luck.
portableapps.com is your friend :-)
Tons of useful apps that don't even need to be installed. That's the ultimate in anti-bloatware. I like:
Peazip (a multifunction compression/decompression tool), Virtualclonedrive (an ISO drive emulator), Rufus (a USB installation media creation tool), IMGburn (everyone knows it), Winamp (still the best damn audio player on the planet), MPlayer (a super-light and ultrafast video player with extensive format support that doesn't even need to be installed), and JoyToKey (a keyboard remapping tool, especially helpful for gaming).
Then Opera (my favorite browser), a portableapp version of Firefox as a backup, and a portableapp version of Skype.
Those go on basically every installation of mine, regardless of use. Then, I tailor the rest of the applications for use.
You don't need to purchase hosting.
You could just as simply install a local web server, like XAMPP which has MariaDB (a MySQL fork) on board. It is easy to install and configure and exists even as portable app. It has everything on board you need to get started with MySQL.
I found links in your comment that were not hyperlinked:
I did the honors for you.

I think I've used all of those tools at least once in my professional experience. All are excellent and extremely useful tools.

I also carry a flash drive of PortableApps.com tools, comes in handy quite often.
Or, password protect a sheet, save it, open it in Gnumeric and gone. Password protecting a sheet exists to protect the formatting, not the data, so there's a weak approach.
Just to add, if you can't install applications to your hard drive, give portableapps a look. No writi g to the registry etc.

Libre Office portable (and others at the first link) can be installed on a USB stick or hard drive and taken where ever.

Use this tool, windirstat, it will tell you the size of all items on your disk. This is the portable version, you can put it on a thumbdrive since you have such low disk space.
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/windirstat_portable
And... today I found out there's a subreddit for the program at r/WinDirStat
You should check out Portableapps.com https://portableapps.com/apps They have lots of stuff to throw on there. I would put a task manager app on there, like Process Hacker or Process Explorer. Autoruns is also really good.
Portablefreeware.com also has a lot of programs you can throw on flash drives.
<strong>PotPlayer</strong> (with LAV, ffdshow) - video player (fast, H/W acceleration, codecs included, border-less, 3D, TTS - subtitles reading, filters, extensions, profiles/presets, skins, fully customizable layout and keyboard shortcuts and xbox controller support...)
Note: Installer includes an ad, to skip it, unmark the checkbox for it and click "Next", or just use PotPlayer Portable without ad.
As long as you don't need it to automatically start (which isn't really doable), you can just manually launch a random .exe like a simple note taking program or something, right? Maybe the least cluttery option is to download portable applications which require no installation and thus won't really clutter up your PC, e.g. from https://portableapps.com/
PortableApps’ XAMPP Launcher may be a good starting point, if they need full control of the server environment. If they just need full control over web content (and not server configuration), that should be possible with ACLs in a normal XAMPP installation.
Just did that - export settings, deauthorize the licence, import, license.
The only thing I needed to do what check the folder paths as they were different on new system.
Plex was same, follow instructions below - easy. I used a utility called fastcopy to copy as windows doesn’t copy many tiny files well.

Pretty easy, go to the browser section of the PortableApps website (portableapps.com), which makes portable versions of open source programs. It's safe, well-know and been using it since more than 10 years.
You can either download the same firefox portable and install it in two different folders (one for you, one for your wife), install the two different firefox versions who have different icons (the blue firefox dev has a different theme, added tools and has early updates), or just install one portable version while the other partner stays on the classic firefox that you've been using so far.
Please note that two firefox portable versions can't run at the same time, however a portable version can run alongside your regular, classic firefox. That's what I do, I use the blue portable Firefox Dev 99% of the time, but can run it alongside the normal firefox on another account which is synced with my phone tabs. You could do that for sure, you or your wife uses the current firefox on the computer, while the other uses the portable blue firefox dev which has a different icon so you always know which is which.
WinDirStat will help you a lot. The easiest way to get it (as well as many other useful tools/apps) is to install PortableApps ( https://portableapps.com/ ) and then click its "Apps" button to get more apps. You can install to a USB if you like, and then you can take all your apps and associated files with you to another computer.
have you looked at the "portable apps suite"? Basically with a few clicks you can choose tons of apps to install onto your usb drive(portable versions) which show up in a menu when you plug it in. There are a ton of utilities and things that you wouldn't even think that you might need, but are good to have with you in some cases. Definitely worth it if you are specifically trying to have a computer utility knife with you at all times.
I don't have access to Tumblr, but usually if it can be played, it can be recorded. Try something like this:
get a copy of Audacity. There's a portable version that does not need installation.
with the song playing, try hitting Record in Audacity and see what happens. You'll probably have to try different recording sources (in the toolbar) before it records from the browser.
Once you figure it out, record the whole song. You can remove any excess audio from the beginning and end by selecting it with the mouse and hitting Delete.
Once you're happy, Export the track as MP3 to your "Add to iTunes" folder. You can choose the MP3 settings: I would go for 256kb/s or higher - no reason for low bitrates these days.
> I would still be thankful for other ideas.
You could get a portable copy of FF55
https://mozilla-firefox-portable.en.uptodown.com/windows/download/1650774
Or portable 52ESR
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/legacy
Or use Eraser to write random bytes across the empty space on their hard drive. Overwriting their hard drive with random data will permanently destroy data beyond most reasonable data recovery methods....
> Machine at work with no option to install anything on it.
You don't need to install anything (nor have any Admin permissions) to use Portable Firefox.

Just run it from a folder on your Documents or from a USB drive. (Firefox is better than Chrome for Cookie Clicker because that's what Orteil develops it in.)
This is what "12345" looks in the UPC-E bar-code schema:

You know, in case anyone wants to make their own version.
I used Zint barcode studio (FOSS) to make the image.
Okay here’s the best I can think of since I’m guessing you have enough porn to choke a horse
1 make your hidden folder somewhere inside of system so it doesn’t get indexed
2 watch your porn with a player no one else uses that you installed in your porn folder
https://portableapps.com/search/node/Media%20player
3 make a .bat file to hide and unhide folder

I assume you're not able to install software, but can you execute exes at all? If so, check out Portable Apps https://portableapps.com/apps
Although I'm not sure if any interpreters are available for that.
For them to monitor your friends is not unreasonable. If you get into serious trouble, the most likely cause will be your so-called friends. So pay some attention to them on this one (unless their rejection of your friends is solely based on your friends' religions).
But checking your search history is a bit much. You can buy a USB thumb drive and install PortableApps.com on it and from that install a browser. Then just remember to hide the drive when you are not using it. Google "how to find a keystroke logger" to see if one is installed.
It is fair to say that TSCC's policy of punishing children for the sins of their parents (as in withholding benefits from the children of lesbians) is truly abhorrent and immoral. Tell your parents about this, and then insist over and over and over that you don't want to attend an immoral church. Tell them a real god would never to something so reprehensible. How can they argue against that?
Hope this helps. I wish you the best of luck.
Nothing objective. I don't try to time operations in different browsers. My impression is that there's little performance difference between Chrome, Opera and Firefox ESR. Also, they all use roughly the same amount of RAM when all processes are included.
In terms of UI, for me Opera is the biggest break from my own Firefox past, which I've been using for over 14 years. I still prefer Firefox's bookmarks UI (bookmarks menu in addition to bookmarks bar vs Chrome's bookmarks bar and its Other Bookmarks entry vs Opera's bookmark bar and bookmarks tab). OTOH, for purely subjective aesthetic reasons, I kinda like Opera's sidebar.
FWIW, I haven't come across any Chrome extensions which haven't worked under Opera.
There's a portable version, so you could try it out without needing to install it.
