Okay, that makes sense. BUT...
Many of us maneuver to Prolific just by typing "pro", then letting the autocomplete take over. That's a problem, because what comes up for me (in Chrome) is "prolific.ac/studies", but that takes me to "https://www.prolific.ac/studies". So either http://prolific.ac/studies redirects to https://www.prolific.ac/studies, or Chrome automatically ignores the www subdomain in the autocomplete. Either one is problematic.
Definitely prolific.ac. Ref link here: https://www.prolific.ac/rp?ref=6OX64RTG
Along use with a web tracker such as Distill, you can catch studies as soon as they pop up. I've earned £200+ from it, and the studies aren't always boring surveys. I've had ones where you play games, bet virtual money etc.
> Probation period is 10 days, you have to do 3 hits a day, correct?
Normally, yes. But someone posted earlier today that they only did 8 days before their probation was lifted and only 6 of those days had more than 1 HIT.
> Also, if there are any other websites or online work that people do to make cash?
Prolific is another place to do academic surveys. It's based on the UK but allows international workers. It's not nearly as busy with work as MTurk but is a good place to pick up surveys for academic researchers and the pay is usually better than surveys on MTurk. They pay via PayPal.
I know you don't want a survey site but I begin with one anyway. Prolific Academic or nonref. You have to sign up as a participant here to be able to do surveys. If you qualify for a survey, you'll always be able te complete it. They also pay pretty well. Another site is Usability Hub. Here you have to answer short questions about webdesigns. They pay 10 cents per test which can take only seconds.
You can also use apps to make money. I mainly use Cashpirate and Uento. They pay you for downloading and running other apps. If you use code OUDBQY you start with extra points for Cashpirate or lkRmp for Uento I'll get some points for every install from you. They don't make me a lot of money, maybe 5 dollars per month, but it's something. All these places pay out through PayPal. If you have any other questions, let me know.
Yep, atm only USA are able to apply. If you're not American, prolific academy isn't a bad option.
The studies aren't very consistent, but I find I can typically catch 1-2 a day and make some ok money there. You fill out a bunch of screening questions at the beginning, then you only get studies that you qualify for, so no time wasted.
You won't make near what you'd make on mturk, but this is the other most trustworthy site I've managed to find: non-ref / ref
Cashout is at 5 pounds.
You could try Prolific academic where you participate in studies by university students. It's available worldwide and you can cash out to PayPal (doesn't have to be verified). I have cashed out myself.
You can only participate in studies that you are invited to and you can't get disqualified. I have earned 14 pounds since 2 weeks back, even though I have work. The studies fill up very fast though so you'll need to check the page very often if you want to participate in any. There is of course browser extensions that do this for you.
It's slow as of now, but if you look at anything University level it is also slow because it's the start of the studying year. Journals published by Universities are usually cough crapper submissions entered earlier in the year but kept back to publish now when it's quieter.
The site is UK based and I'm from the UK so I assume that is where they market hardest (mturk doesn't have UK residents), and I've seen about 5 studies this week, even one for £5 on social evolution.
None of you got this study http://prolific.ac/studies/561430847ffc8a000b811873 I had to take it and quit it just to get it out of my studies list, it's been there for weeks and I'm not inserting things into orifices for that little cash ;)
