The SQL is a DB I made to track projects from pitch to publication. I usually use Sequel Ace for day-to-day updating but if I'm in the mood to write more in-depth queries I'll jump into Atom and integrate that with some Python.
For instance if I'm curious to know which editors respond quickest to pitches, or need the most/least chasing up, or... I don't know... who responds best to pitches sent on Tuesday mornings... I can figure that out. I pull data from the DB with a SQL query then use Python for the... uh... chopping about. I could probably do that in SQL too tbh but I'm just more comfortable in Python.
I don't do it all that often. And I'm not even sure how useful such super in-depth analysis actually is. But I like to nerd out sometimes just for the fun on it.
What is super useful is using SQL to quickly pull up a list of published articles that meet certain criteria, e.g. published within a certain market and date range, in order to qualify for submitting for prizes, and have all the information I need right there including published title, url, whether I have a PDF copy, etc.
In addition to being for MySQL, Sequel Pro is also unmaintained. If you want a decent alternative if you happen to need a MySQL client, there’s a fork called Sequel Ace
For SQLite I use DB Browser for SQLite, but Native SQLite Manager also looks pretty good, but costs $1.99
