ZoneMinder is quite good.
Another one I heard about is Shinobi but other than looking at its page I've never seen it in action.
There are soo many NVR software suites that you can use. Now several like Blue Iris and Milestone require Windows in order to run, so you may have to use them in a VM. Others like Zoneminder and Shinobi can run on MAC natively.
I would honestly recomend that you give Shinobi a try. Its free, and it does not have any limit on number of streams or anything like that, afaik. I have tried it in the past, but I currently am playing with Blue Iris.
Zoneminder and Shinobi. Spin up a Prebuilt VM from TurnkeyLinux for Zoneminder (Shameless plug as I was the original contributor). I use Shinobi now https://moeiscool.github.io/Shinobi/ and it is quite good. Zoneminder is great as well, but isn’t as simple.
I have been using a 360° Axis for a long time, but newly looking at what is now affordable cameras... Are these getting updates? No one has spotted malwares on them? (Some cheap Chinese clones are sometime ridden with them)
How do you use them, ie: do they have everything on board to work without a software like this: https://moeiscool.github.io/Shinobi/ ?
Cheers! :)
Shinobi is the Open Source CCTV platform written in Node.JS. Designed with multiple account system, Streams by WebSocket, and Save to WebM. Shinobi can record IP Cameras and Local Cameras.
Yes. I am saying it's the platform. It will hopefully be revered like WordPress and Magento in their respective sectors... Hopefully better. Yes. It's free.

Warning : Shinobi is not for the faint of heart. Currently it is still in heavy development. While the large objective is to actually care about the software while writing it : this project started in November 2016, it should be expected to have bugs and the need for further refinement. If you are unable to get through the installation process please skip Shinobi and try Blue Iris.
3 cameras is fine for zoneminder... but any more and you are asking for trouble. Especially if this rig is not powerful. I had zm on a dual xeon 2.66 (two physcial quad cores) and zm caused the system to lag with 10 cameras. Lag to the point where SSH had delays between key strokes.
Cameras on wifi can't really fall in to the reliable category because there may be interference from humans with other devices or simply the building itself. zm should reconnect but you'll have a lot of blue frames (broken videos).
well its been 6 days you'll know if you can use it or not. If you find you don't like it try Shinobi :) https://moeiscool.github.io/Shinobi/
