Use Supermetrics. Problem solved.
It can also pull in Bing and Facebook data. A couple formulas, and you can have a pretty powerful spreadsheet built in just a couple hours.
I'm poor (errr, I'm a cheap ass) so I use Google Sheets (not even Excel) and SuperMetrics.
Everything else is native platforms, ie. I build my own. I do recommend customizing the crap out of Google Analytics to give you meaningful reports, and this just in Google Sheets has Color Scales, woot!
Justin Cutroni just posted something about doing hourly, and even minute, analytics exports: https://plus.google.com/+justincutroni/posts/5ysUFX8t41q
As this is from API, you can use one of the spreadsheet import tools like Supermetrics to pull it in from the GA API: http://supermetrics.com/
What I've done along similar lines is user Google sheets and an amazing free tool (for now) called Supermetrics (http://supermetrics.com/) that allows you to import data in realtime into your spreadsheets and then you can do all sorts of awesome stuff in terms of making charts and graphs (Try to focus on time-series and comparative stuff here). The best part is that as the data is pulled in realtime you can share the link to the sheet to any stakeholders (Or to a higher level dashboard sheet you create from the data).
As for what to include in your data, I tend to personally be more focused on engagement than simple user growth and love metrics like engaments per users, shares per uses, etc. and then it gets really interesting when you are able to create time series graphs of this data and then correlate it to activities in various channels so you can get some very useful insight into how well things you've done have worked.
Hope that helps!
This report will be set up using the Supermetrics plugin for Google Sheets.
The author of the document will need to change the schedule/email settings in the document to stop the reports from sending.
Edit: See this link for info about setting up the email/schedule triggers.
Hello,
Thank you for using Supermetrics. We just recently released 9 free reporting templates for our users to use. You can find all information here: http://supermetrics.com/blog/#!jumpstart-reporting-with-supermetrics-template-gallery
Best, Supermetrics
You can try using Supermetrics (http://supermetrics.com/) which allows you to export data to Excel/ Google Sheet and create your own reports. It's free for 30 days . After that, you'll have to pay for the premium service;)
Do you have a small budget you can allocate to a tool for this?
I highly recommend Supermetrics.
If you are an Excel user, they have a $39/month module for the Excel-based Supermetrics DataGrabber that you can use for this. That license is tied to a single Google account which includes any Search Console (Webmaster Tools) accounts that Google login has access to. That single license can be used on as many computers as you need it to. It's easy to use, and while you'll have to do a quick initial setup for each of your reports and a sheet for archiving the data once its pulled in to Excel, it is a massive time saver once its up and running.
If you are a Google Sheets user, they also have a pro level license of their Supermetrics for Google Drive tool for $49/month. That license is tied to a single Google login too, but you can connect to other Google accounts within it. This license also includes access to all of their other connectors like GA, AdWords, Bing, Facebook, and many more. Its more affordable overall, but if you don't like being confined to Google Sheets, it may not be your cup of tea.
I've been using both of these, for Search Console and the other connectors, for a few years now (since before they were called Supermetrics), and I've easily saved thousands of reporting hours across our teams with them. I can't imagine not having them at my disposal, and the price is really fair, even for smaller agencies/freelancers.
Let me know if you have any questions. I'll be more than happy to answer them!
Check out:
Both of them Helps you import the data into excel and then you can play around to create the visuals. Unfortunately, report generation won't be automated using this tools.
I'm not 100% sure of where you're looking to enter the data input, but here are two suggestions for you that I am just learning about right now:
Cyfe.com is a really cheap option that'll pull data from a ton of sources for you to see the data from your GA (among a ton of other sources.)
There's a Google Sheets addon I have been fooling around with, but haven't added Google Analytics yet: http://supermetrics.com/support/supermetrics-for-googledocs/
Let me know if this helps!
Check out Supermetrics http://supermetrics.com/ I've been using it to pull in data for Google AdWords accounts that I mange - it can also pull in Google Analytics. It does take a bit to set up, but if you know Excel/Google Docs it's not that bad and well worth the effort. once it's set-up, it's as easy to update as simply hitting a "Refresh All" button and watching it work.
Good Luck!
Automate that reporting!
http://supermetrics.com/ is a tool I have been using.
Cut about 40 hours a week of reporting time for my team.
If you have resources, you could have them use the Google API to set up a custom reporting tool.
