Thats the one.... and so you know who we are. We started the company 4 years ago with a Kickstarter campaign (for a USB private browser and VPN https://www.surfeasy.com/private_browser/) and then launched our VPN about 2 years ago.
We were recently acquired by Opera Software. They were one of the first web browsers and are a publicly traded company out of Norway.
We have privacy advisers like Michael Geist on the team and do not maintain logs related to your online activities. (Michael and I did an AMA a while back... well mostly Michael, but I was there too http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1h1y0t/)
I've gotta know, am I the product?

>Get 500MB/month for free on the Starter VPN plan, as well as plenty of opportunities to earn more data by referring friends and other simple tasks! Still not enough? Don’t worry! Upgrading to a paid plan can cost less than a large frappucino.
Same thing. Thought 'Oh fuck what did I do and why are they watching.' Using a VPN now and it's working. I use the paid version of this: https://www.surfeasy.com But they have so many megs for free, so you can use it until MTS fixes it, if you don't already have a VPN.
I'm not the best person to ask tbh BUT I'll throw you the link to the service I use. This one came preinstalled on my laptop and I've been using it the past few months with decent results. It's easy af to use these things just make sure it's running before you download anything and you are good to go!
Also this being reddit I hope to get some replies with some better VPNs here shortly.
There are things called virtual private network services that make it seem as though you're browsing the web from another country. Some are free, but from my experience, you can only get full usage from buying a subscription. Most are relatively affordable, though.
https://www.surfeasy.com/ is a popular one.
A quick Google of "best vpn service" will give you plenty of other options as well.
:)
Where the company is based definitely matters. For example, if it's on US soil, it's bound by the US PATRIOT ACT, so they may have received a National Security Letter (red letter) which demanded your information under gag order. If you're picking a VPN based on privacy, knowing the laws in that country in this area is important.
I use a couple Canadian VPNs for some web activity as well. That means websites I go to through that VPN think I'm visiting from the local area/city where the VPN is, as opposed to using my ISP which gives away my specific location. Tor does any even better job than VPNs for this. If you're using VPNs, you also want to make sure you have WebRTC turned off.
> NHL.tv is great if you are out of market. Their blackout restrictions kind of stink though.
You can get a subscription to a VPN that costs $29.88 for the year or a Smart DNS for $19.99 and you won’t be blacked out any more.
https://www.surfeasy.com is $1.99 a month (US), available in Canada, and allows torrenting. It's also month-to-month, so you are not locked into it for a year or more to get the price. It'd be worth using until Windscribe offers another sale.
You need to be a paid user to select other countries.
That includes Norway: https://www.surfeasy.com/features/vpn-regions/
You can create a limited free account to give a try (and see another subset of the full list): https://addons.opera.com/extensions/details/surfeasy-proxy-an-opera-software-company/
I've used this for several years at it works well. Where I work blocks most VPN websites so you can't connect to them. However, since this is all self-contained on a usb it works fine. It is also nice because you can plug it into any computer and be safe.

However, recently I stopped using it and set up a VPN server on a Raspberry Pi connected to my home network. That also works very well and is a lot cheaper than most options.
Edit: I should mention, my primary goal in using one is keep my connection private, which I know my home network is. I don't have much need to have a foreign connection or to hide anything shady.
I downloaded Opera to try it out, and you go to the website for surfeasy, scroll all the way to the bottom past the ads to buy it or have a trial, click the 'Download opera extension' link, then do just that, after you put in an email address it'll pop up like any other extension would, and if you verify your email address it'll say you have 750 mb available for the next 30 days. You could do other stuff to get more, but there's no seven day trial. I was confused as well until I decided to scroll down. Hope this helps.
Edit: Here, you don't even have to scroll - https://www.surfeasy.com/vpn-browser-extension-opera/
I'd suggest you buy directly from our website https://www.surfeasy.com/private_browser/ rather than amazon.
The coupon code will only work on our site and our site will automatically pick the closest warehouse to ship to you from.
Hope that helps!
